Came to this salon for a haircut a few weeks ago. It's small and unassuming, tucked away in a little strip mall. I would've driven right past it had I not had a Groupon. It was very easy to make an appointment on the phone, and they were able to squeeze me in the same afternoon. My hairstylist was Cailyn, and she was sweet and fun to talk to. I told her that I wanted to keep my hair long enough to possibly do a side braid for my wedding in the spring. She wisely talked me out of cutting off the four inches I had originally planned in order to make that doable. My haircut came out great with nice, even layers that framed my face well. Cailyn was very professional but still engaging throughout and made the experience a pleasant one. With the Groupon, the price was very reasonable. Small, clean, cute, and friendly staff, Cailyn cut my hair and was very sweet. I have a ton of hair, and she took the time to cut it., and use the razor to debulk it. Next time, I'm going for a more dramatic cut! I lost many inches and pounds of hair, yet it looks the same...again, I have A LOT of hair! Fantastic service! Greeted upon entry and spoken to appropriately all throughout the appointment. I really enjoyed that my stylist had some creative input and ideas for me based on what I thought I wanted to get. Came in for a light natural copperish color, came out with a bold and beautiful deep red with lighter high lights! I think I ended up paying a bit more because of the amount of hair I have, but even with the groupon it wasn't too bad for a full head of color, high lights, and custom color to my undercut. read more

Dan and Chris, the owners, are two forward thinking individuals. I recently got my hair done by Dan and my only request was "Help!" I walked in as a "plain jane" and left like a movie star on her way to accept an Academy Award! Dan used cutting edge color and cutting techniques that I have never seen before. There were razor blades and funky shearers, and I loved every...minute...of it! They also have their own line of hair products (which smell so good and are extremely long lasting). After blow drying, Dan used his own, Titan hair straightener, which turned my hair into liquid silk! I'm and unable to work and haven't had my hair done for over a year, so my dad was nice enough to treat me. We purchased a Groupon offer for Modern Edge Salon to have my hair done. The deal was for a balayage or an ombré. I was so looking forward to this time! When sitting in the salon chair, I described to Cailyn (the hairdresser), the look I wanted to achieve and showed her numerous photos as well. She proceeded to work on my hair, and after processing, and at the sink, I asked in excitement if I'm blonde (as I wanted). Cailyn answered yes, that I was .... Although I like the actual hair cut I received, I am very upset and disappointed with the color. I asked for a blonde balyage and received a color that I could have achieved with a box dye from a pharmacy! My hair is now a one tone brassy orange color. I've always had my hair colored, or highlighted blonde, and never had a problem until today. After "trying out" the color for a couple days I just could not come to accept the result -- after all, this is why we go to the "professionals" right? I left a voicemail three days later, on Friday May 26 to discuss my concerns. The salon never returned my call so I followed up with an email. Someone named Christine emailed me on May 27 stating they would get back to me by the end of the day. Cailyn called me that afternoon and after expressing my concerns and displeasure I was told there is nothing she could do for me. She went on making excuses for her work, saying she did the best she could, and never offered a resolution for my displeasure. She stated for me to come back in 2 weeks if I'd like to have it "fixed," and that there would be an additional $80 charge. Also, since the cost of the service is offered at a lowered price with Groupon, it states on their page to take that into consideration when tipping. Therefore, I gave a substantial tip to Cailyn , only to regret it now. I have never been to a salon in all my life that would be so unwilling to resolve a customers concerns. I am sickened by their lack of customer service and poor attention to detail. This reaffirms the quote..... " You get what you pay for", cheap price and cheap service. Perhaps I am being discriminated against because I am a Groupon customer? I will be sure to follow up with Groupon directly. A salon full of themselves and false advertising - Groupon for balayage....HA! Cailyn does whatever SHE THINKS will look "good" instead of listening to what the client wants and doesn't want. The first thing she said to me was, we should highlight the top of your head and I emphatically told her I did not want highlights on top of my head because my hair gets dried out and I did not want that. Told her I wanted balayage, seeing as that is what I paid for with the Groupon!! Well, this was a Friday and by Sunday I was fuming, as the top of my head is now mostly blonde! When I called her on Tuesday I told her I was not happy with my hair. I told her she highlighted my whole head when I had asked her not to!! She immediately started making excuses like, well I told you what happened to my Mom's hair, and then she mentioned the pictures I showed her, which I showed her one real quick and this looks nothing like it. Well, not only did she argue with me (which I am not sure how she could - Um, what part of DO NOT HIGHLIGHT THE TOP OF MY HEAD didn't you get?) the owner proceeded to do the same thing. Horrible customer service, and the sad thing is they are advertising with Groupon falsely and people like myself and others are not only getting ripped off but are getting treated poorly. Today, the owner of Modern Edge Salon insulted me, spoke over me and yelled in an aggressive tone at me for attempting to get in touch with their salon and to get an appointment for the service that I had already paid for. Here's what happened: I purchased a Groupon for their Keratin, Haircut and Style on April 6th for $47. To book my appointment, I called their salon. (Since then up until today, I have had to call a total of 8 times). In the beginning, the issue was nobody picking up or getting back to me. When I could finally get in touch with someone, that person being Cailyn, I was offered an appointment date only once, for May 16th. I would be out of the country at that time. She told me to call back, so I did, multiple times. I called again and again. Nobody ever remembered who I was; they said that they speak with "a hundred people a day about these packages". During these calls, I was told that there was absolutely no availability for me whatsoever. During another call, the employee told me that they were booked solid throughout May, and that they haven't booked anyone for June or July "because it has been so crazy". Then I got on a call during which I spoke with the owner. I gave him over seven different dates throughout the month of May that would work for me to go into the salon. I was continued to be told for each, "Nope, that won't work". I began to see that it was futile to offer dates of my own, so I asked if he could offer some dates to me. He said that wouldn't be possible. When I asked why, he claimed that it was private information (strange for a salon to hide its availability from customers). He denied to discuss any scheduling times with me afterward and said that these packages were sold and booked extremely quickly, and then somehow brought up that I could receive my service in July. I informed him that I had not booked a haircut package from Groupon expecting to be able to use it four months later. He told me to go to Groupon and talk with them, which I did. I was told by Groupon that they could not refund me as the salon had already been paid, and that they were supposed to get in contact with me within 3 or 4 days. They didn't. Today, I went to the salon itself. I introduced myself to the owner, asking if he remembered who I was, he said no. I asked him not about the dates I had brought up before, but rather new times in June (which I had been told by his employee during a previous call did not yet have any appointments), in order to book a date for the service that I had paid for over a month ago. He said that they were totally booked up, that he would have to double check his schedule, and then began to complain about my schedule, saying that whatever they tried to give me just didn't seem to work for me. I responded saying that these were dates that I had never brought up before, but he continued to reiterate that whatever they offered me couldn't work for me (even though I had only been offered an actual date once). I then said I could wait for him to check his schedule. He said that he would not do anything for me while with his client, dismissed me and then went back to cutting his client's hair. I let him know that he could most certainly do it after he finished with his client. He fired back that he could not talk with me whatsoever today, since he would have a client after this one, and another after that one. I told him he could check between clients, that he couldn't take 2 minutes to check his schedule for me (also a paying client)? This seemed to infuriate him, and he told me "You don't get it, do you?". I might note that the salon had only 2 clients in it at the moment, the ones he and his employee were finishing up with, and more importantly that it would take only a couple minutes to look at his schedule for me. After I stood there silent and waiting for a few minutes, he initiated conversation with me again. I told him that I had already paid for this package and that it would expire on August 4th, so I needed to get the treatment within a whopping four months. He said that I needed to talk with Groupon about that. I said I already had, and they told me that he was supposed to contact me. He began to get more angry, yelling and talking over me and ignoring what I was saying, which was that it didn't make sense for him to be offering me a date for not May, not June, not even August, so never. He finished off his rant by saying, "at this point, I refuse service!" So I left. But let's just say that this has been the worst I have ever been mistreated by any business in my whole life. To make it more tragic, it lasted over a month, and ended with the salon keeping my money without offering me the service I paid for. Please do not suffer the torment of trying to deal with the rude and fraudulent people at Modern Edge Salon. read more
