Professor, what is an Ecosphere? Well, let me break it down. It is a beautifully blown glass sphere, pod or water drop shaped vessel that contains shrimp (the number of shrimp varies per size s-xl), shells, a magnet for cleaning, algae ,sea water, a branch, bacteria and micro organisms. It is self-sustaining ecosystem, you never have to feed the shrimpies. Simply provide your EcoSphere with a source of indirect natural or artificial light and enjoy this aesthetic blend of art and science, beauty and balance. Super cool, I know. It's like an aquarium but not having to clean fish poop out of smelly gravel. I recently moved to Tucson and my shrimp pals are still swimmingly perfect. Some owners have 10-15 year old shrimp still well and kicking. Some claim to have reproduced, however it is extremely rare....I'm still pulling that I will be one out of a million that has shrimp babies. If your shrimp die within a year, they will replace them. They also do custom orders. After years of staring at these babies online, I jumped for joy when I learned they are made in Tucson!!!!! I emailed the company and they said I could pick one up there....as I am in the market for a show stopping xl! They do not have a traditional storefront, but they have no qualms about me stopping by. We have been moving heaven and earth to try to find a harness that properly fits him. We called the shop and spoke with the owner. We described the problem and he said he thought he had one that would fit him. We went down to the shop and the owner patiently went through the options with us until we found one that fit. It was made in America and uses astronaut suit fabric so it stays cool in the summer. The shop is full of delightful options, including top end dog food, fish based treats, honey bully sticks and even has shoes that will cool your dog in the summertime. My first memories of West Ajo include a purple horse brush that I desperately wanted to purchase so I could groom my horse, Patches. I saved up my allowance for weeks in order to purchase this amazing purple brush. When I got up to the counter, Chuck rang the brush up and, the child that I was, I had not accounted for tax. Embarrassed, I said I didn't have enough -- and I remember Chuck laughing, saying how unfair taxes were, and he told me to take the brush home anyways. I was approximately seven at the time and I'm now 30 and still remember this. This is the kind of feed store this place is. Heart and compassion. Family run. Amazing. West Ajo is a family run business that sells all kinds of different livestock feed with a smile, warmth, and the character that you won't see at chain stores. They don't sell toys and clothes in their store but if you come in asking "What is the best feed for my horse" they're going to be able to help you out. I'd take great advice, knowledge about their products, and the kindness they have over a chain store any day. Their prices are competitive. They have a decent selection. And they'll always be there for you if you have questions, need something, or want to post something on their awesome bulletin board. They also support the community and have donated to 4-H events, to the annual Tucson Poultry Pigeon and Fancy Fowl Show in November, and to many other events. I looked online prior to coming in. It is recommended that you fill out an adoption application prior to coming in so you'll be pre-approved which makes getting the cat of your choice more likely. It isn't required though, you can pop in anytime they are open to see and meet the cats available for adoption. I'm glad Holly has pissed some people off! When I was there there were a couple of groups of people that came in with kids/teens who didn't respect the cat's boundaries. I saw a boy trying to play with a cat by batting at it when the cat had already popped him and it's ears were lying flat back on it's head. There was zero awareness from the boy (mid teens) that this cat did not want to play with him, he was just terrorizing it. The cats roam freely through the facility, some like attention others want you to leave them the fuck alone. Take a hint when it's given and you'll be fine. From my experience and based on the questionnaire for adoption Hermitage is just trying to get these cats into reliable, loving, stable homes. When I dropped in yesterday I had no expectations that I'd actually be able to bring a kitty home. Whatever hoops they require a person to jump though is in the best interest of the kitties. You are not entitled to whatever cat you want whenever you want it just because it's in a shelter! I am so grateful Holly let me adopt my sweet boy yesterday but I would've completely understood if I had to wait and potentially miss out on getting him. I showed up at 4 pm just planning to look but prepared in case I found "the one". When I knew I found the one I went back out to the lobby and filled out the adoption application on my phone. Once submitted I asked how long the approval process takes. Holly said it varies and recent background checks through my employment might have sped that up. I asked if I'd be able to take him home that day or would it be Tuesday when they reopen, if approved. Holly told me it depended on whether the people there before me were adopting and how many. This was because the cats have to get a checkup before leaving and there's paperwork to be filled out. The shelter closes at 5 pm on Saturdays. Completely reasonable!! So I just hung out and played with cats until I knew for sure. Luckily there was only one adoption in front of me so Holly had time to work me in. This place is wonderful and I am so so glad I wasn't dissuaded by the mediocre yelp score. There are some very petty people and they really mess up the reliability of yelp. I do like them when they have a proper home and people who care about them. I went here with a friend of mine who lost his cat and wants to get another one. I was not expecting such a beautiful clean space with wonderful people taking care of these cats. It is so clean and the cats are so well cared for. The volunteers were amazing and it was a wonderful experience. My friend is hopefully going to volunteer here.

I would not recommend Desert Sphynx. We brought home our…read morenew kitty baby from this breeder at the end of September. We were initially a little worried about going with this breeder as their seemed to be a lack of testing for the cats and their house was not well kept (they are also breeding dogs in the same house so the house is pretty smelly and not clean). However, we ended up falling love with a little pink blue eyed sphynx there. Once we did finally bring him home he did have a URI right off the bat, which the breeder told us was common as it was a stressful situation moving into his new house. We got him to the vet and did a full panel of tests as we wanted to make sure our new family member was healthy. We do not have any other animals and want to possibly get another kit cat in the future so we wanted to make sure he was disease free. This is when the problems started arising, a few days later our vet let us know our kitty has Giardia. This is awful news to us as we do have a three year old and this parasite can be passed to small children. We got him straight away on treatment and started sanitizing and washing everything with bleach water, threw away all his toys AND even got disposable litter boxes so we could throw them away after the cat used it. We were extremely thorough. We took him back in to get fixed during this time, which after that he developed another URI- this time our vet let us know he probably has Feline Herpes (although common in cats we were a little disappointed our breeder did not mention this as I assume she knew all her cats must have as she disclosed he would get sick when we got him home). We decided to do another panel of testing and he also still has Giardia and now is on more medication (Giardia is really hard to get rid of especially if your cat has a compromised immune system - which he does from the Feline Herpes). Since our cat has Giardia we will be taking him to get tested again (which is pricey) along with the treatment (multiple medications now). We informed the breeder of the Giardia once we found out he first had it and she lied about all the cats getting tested (as she was not willing to provide the vet/the vets number he got tested with). She also has been unwilling to help pay for any additional tests/treatment (for the Giardia) - which I let her know would help remedy the situation. I would assume all her cats AND dogs have Giardia and all her cats have feline herpes. I would steer clear and find a more professional breeder - we would not recommend this cattery to anyone!
