She was a hard worker and understanding the worker shortage in the north woods, it seemed they had no busboys as this poor girl had to not only serve all 5-6 tables in her section, but was forced to buss two of her own tables. Good busboys are the key to turning tables. This young lady who was fairly knowledgeable about the menu although needed to learn a little more about the specials before she got out on the floor. Nevertheless, a quick check on the proper pronunciation and definition of "Pontchartrain Sauce" had me sold on the fried walleye special. Everything is a la carte here so don't be surprised with a pricey tab. That said, IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY. I started with a cup of the Hungarian Mushroom soup, which was phenomenal. This was followed up with as I say the fried walleye with pontchatrain sauce and sautéed green beans that were perfectly cooked; crunchy and delectable. There is nothing fancy or trendy about this place. To me it seemed to be a hybrid "dive-bar-up-north-tavern" with all the requisite furnishings from vinyl upholstered bar stools to Green Bay Packers posters and other "up north kitsch." But -- we came for the beer. And the beer was not bad. I had a five beer flight, while my non-driving companion tried several more of the twelve selections on tap. The flavor profile of each selection was spot on. The wheat beer was wheaty, the stout was thick, dark and chewy, the Oktoberfest evoked visions of singing "Ein Prosit" in München. My other selections were satisfactory and my companion enjoyed his as well. With the proliferation of micro-breweries nationwide it's virtually impossible to visit all of them. And it's equally difficult to stand out from the crowd (and get four or five stars from me). But I can recommend stopping here for some beer and checking one more microbrew tap room off your list.

A number of cabins are newer and while on my recent visit they had removed an older cabin and had just poured a big new foundation for its replacement. The bar is the best and Beverly is still there expertly serving cocktails and beer plus the only bar up here I've found still serving ice cream drinks especially the Brandy Alexander.
