I do like this place and when in that area of town since want to visit! Who screams for ice cream? Me! So mentioning to the hubs we are only about 15 miles away from Andy's off we went. Why we don't have one in phoenix, I'll never know! This time hubby went with the pumpkin pie mixture which was delicious. I decided to try one of the caramel apples coated with Reese's. We order and stand salivating as we wait for our treats. The hubs gets his and mine is fully wrapped in a nice packaging but um.... It's all in one piece and come to find out they gave me a card on how to cut it myself. Now I'm not close to home by any means and hubby is enjoying his treat! You are telling me after the fact that you have no way to cut up my apple into manageable bites? Do I want to wait the full 45 minutes to an hour to get home? Maybe a whole Apple about have been disclosed before selling it. While we sit in the car because outdoor seating is limited and doesn't look very comfortable, I'm eyeballing my husband with sad puppy eyes and decide that this is not acceptable. So I politely go back to the window and explain to the great kid behind the counter my dilemma. He offers a freezer bag to transport my Apple safely home. I then ask since it's wrapped can I get ice cream instead and return the Apple? Unfortunately no. Don't you have something back there where you can cut this Apple up so I can get my instant gratification? He converses with someone else and somewhere in the back and 5 or so minutes later my Apple is sliced up for me to enjoy on the way home. I'm happy with the taste and getting to enjoy my treat. Thank you to the kids working there for solving this issue. My point? In the future let people know about it before ordering it and for goodness sakes buy an apple slicer! Lesson learned from me. We gave her our order and she was very unfriendly from the start but it wasn't a big deal, but then when it came time to pay I gave her my card and I told her it needed to be swiped because chip didn't work, she 1 didn't listen to me, then she tried it 3 times and couldn't figure out how to swipe it correctly. Hardly any seating. It does feel like stepping back in time with its large windows and architecture. I have had the popular concretes, it's all good! I would recommend a "mix it yourself" concrete recipe: Vanilla custard base, then add key lime syrup and salted pecans, make sure they add some more pecans on top after blending it. We were out bird watching and Andy's Frozen Custard was nearby. I don't see many places with frozen custard so I was intrigued. Vanilla custard was rich and creamy. Very strong egg and vanilla flavor. A bit like Blue Bell french vanilla ice cream but more creamy and with stronger egg flavor. Great tasting treat. Service was fast and friendly. Hands down my favorite Arizona custard. Culvers has my heart being a Wisconsin girl but Andy's comes in at a hard second (but first for AZ). I would go to the one in mesa almost regularly when I was staying with my friend for a month. We tried basically everything in the menu but my favorite is still the BootDaddy Concrete. Wish there was one closer to me in Phoenix. I've never been inside one as I always go through the drive through. They have people outside with iPads taking your order ahead of time. Good team work. I always love this place! Both of their base custards flavors are bomb. One is chocolate is my absolute favorite and other one is vanilla. They have both sundae and concrete option. The main difference is sundae all the toppings are on top, and concrete they mix all of them together! If you are near by do try this place out! We have never been here or even heard of it but we were in the mood for a sweet treat and it had good reviews. I can understand why now as I'll go ahead and add to the rave reviews... because Andy's definitely did not dissapoint! We ordered an apple pie sundae with pecans (you can opt not to add the nuts if you want) and it was out of this world delicious!!! The custard it came with was ultra creamy and had such a tasty flavor... I could have gladly ordered some custard on its own and been quite delighted. But in this sundae there was a perfect amount of caramel and pecans in it to make each and every bite with a little of each and just delicious. And let me tell you about the Apple pie in it... it was quality - warm and gooey, but the apple wasn't mushy and it had the crust in there so we really got to experience an apple pie a la mode, in a cup - with delectable custard, caramel drizzle and pecans that were lightly salted. The caramel drizzle just made it too. I believe the Apple pie may be a seasonal item, but you can do it in a mixer (which seems to be like a blizzard style blend, or you can do it in a cone) so you have options. Our experience is EXACTLY the same as many others. Hispanic girl taking the order, leaving out ingredients stated on the board that are included, then trying to upcharge for them. African American male in back shouting the "f" word when you come back up to the window because your order is wrong and then they slam the window shut. It's happened twice in the past 5 months after 7pm. Idk what kind of scam they are running out of this location, but I've never seen anything like it in Arizona. When you are wanting dessert and me being nice says "let's give it just one more chance" and him saying "I'll NEVER take you back to that place after what happened last time" says a LOT. read more
