Andy's is a great place for dessert as their custard is outstanding! This is a new location in Lee's Summit, that is way too close to our house. The staff is very efficient, and I also appreciated their clean and accessible restroom.

It's not god-awful, but our entire experience was just...subpar. To start off, the service is not great. The entire place seems to be staffed by teenagers (not a bad thing!) who have not been trained to run the place well (a bad thing) and who don't know what's on offer (a very bad thing). We asked if we could substitute the cheddar cheese that comes on the burger for American cheese. She didn't know and went to ask her manager, then returned to inform us that they don't have American cheese. What kind of Americana-themed diner doesn't have American cheese?! The food was also just fine. The burger patties look like they came straight out of the freezer in a school cafeteria, but they tasted surprisingly good! Well-seasoned and not rubbery. The buns were fine. The fries were good, beer-battered and flaky but quite undercooked. The soda tasted like nothing - barely even carbonated water. To add to the (non-literal) sour taste left by the food, the ice cream was just so-so. The custard was bland and the ice cream is quite expensive, especially for not being made in-house. Boo! The ambience is cute but it seems like someone just googled "50s Americana" and added the first 15 Amazon listings to their cart to decorate the place. As another reviewer said, I am EXTREMELY disappointed to see what seems like a local institution advertising with hideous AI-generated posters. Is it really that hard to take a picture of a burger or an ice cream cone? I wouldn't recommend this place. Take a trip north to Danny's Burger Shack for a good meal instead!

However, I couldn't help but notice the egregious looking AI slop poster plastered all over the store to advertise their rewards program. It put enough of a damper on the place to make me decide to never go there again. I find it very insulting as a customer when a business tries to advertise with such obviously AI images. It makes it feel like a scam. What flavors are these even supposed to represent? You guys couldn't pull free stock images off of the internet? Polluting the environment and making your business look cheap and shady because you couldn't be bothered to use a photo of real ice cream? A phone picture of the ice cream actually in the store would've been better than this. Next time, I'll go to Poppy's on Third Street. The ice cream is better, anyway.

They have constantly changing flavors, which they post on Facebook and Instagram. On one of those scorching afternoons, I stopped by and tried my go-to, cookies and cream, along with a flavor I'd never even heard of before: mamey. The cookies and cream was a pass for me. It just wasn't particularly creamy or decadent, which is what I'm looking for with a classic like cookies and cream. The mamey, though, that was unique. I'd never even heard of mamey before, but the flavor immediately made me think of fall. It has this naturally sweet, creamy, almost sweet potato/pumpkin-like quality to it. Honestly, I could see mamey ice cream becoming a fall or Thanksgiving staple based on the flavor alone. It just fits that profile. I normally stick with my go-tos, but this is part of what makes trying new foods an experience for me: discovering unfamiliar fruits and flavors and improving my palate. The mamey was definitely the winner and especially refreshing on such a hot day. For this experience alone, 3 stars. But I can see plenty of room for that rating to go up. Maybe I caught them on an off day, or maybe I just need to find the right flavors for me. Either way, the mamey alone gave me a reason to try them again.
