    Zaxxon with a LCD screen

3 Stars - Why only 3 Stars? Condition, Condition, Condition. Some games (Xevious, Zaxxon, Dig Dug, and some others) have had their arcade CRTs replaced with LCDs. For most people, that wouldn't matter. If you have ever played a game on the original CRT, the LCD isn't a good, and for Zaxxon, it makes the game almost unplayable (and Zaxxon is hard enough!). The concept is good - $12 for a wrist band, you have to pay quarters now to play the pinball machines - they were the most popular, and were racking up $200 repair bills, so making people pay quarters has cut down on the wear and tear. A few games were down (most of these games were out there in the 1980's and were expected to last 5 years, so at 40+ years, this is no surprise). They do have some basic candy and drinks available for a charge. If you come in within an hour of closing, the per person charge drops to $6, so if you are bargain hunting, that's a good idea. Great classics working: Star Castle - I forgot how fun that game was. And that CRT can't be replaced as the boards on the CRT are part of the game. Tempest Asteroids Deluxe Super Sprint (surprisingly hard) A good pinball row with one EM and 4 solid state units. A fair number of drivers. See the photos. The place has a Ecto 1 Replica on one side, if you are into Ghostbusters. If you like to play classic arcade games, game on.

Front of the arcade by night.

Ask the Community - Andys Awesome Arcade

Would this be a decent place to host a 9 year olds birthday party? He wants to play arcade games for his birthday. How do you contact the business?

Yes. Check to see if you can bring in food. They have a space that is away from the games to eat.

So I saw that Andy's arcade had Gilligans, and I had to go.

I'm not going any further with the cuisine, I'll say its not my kind of place to eat. However Pin Ball is defiantly the game and there are plenty other games too. Have billiards if you are a pool shark. Bathrooms were clean. Service was a little all over the place, but nice. For example, place was empty and still waited at the bar every time. Stay far, far away from this place. What my family and…read morefriends witnessed at Hot Shots Billiards this past weekend was one of the most disturbing displays of behavior I've ever seen from someone working in a business open to the public. The manager completely lost control screaming, swearing, and behaving aggressively toward a grandfather and his two young grandchildren in front of everyone inside. We saw this with our own eyes. After the outburst, I spoke with the grandfather to understand what triggered this. He explained that the boys had been there the day before playing pool with family and friends and had returned for another visit. Their grandmother had brought them each a small bowl of soup because they didn't want the food offered there. Without any calm discussion or warning, the manager suddenly rushed over, yelling for them to "get their food out of here right this GD minute." Then, in a way that shocked everyone standing nearby, he snatched the soup from one of the kids and forcefully pulled a bag out of the child's hands as they were trying to leave. He continued shouting profanity including multiple F-bombs directly at the grandfather, all while the two young children stood there visibly upset. The entire place went silent. People looked stunned and uncomfortable. I've never seen anything like this in a place that's supposed to be family-friendly. In my opinion, the grandfather showed incredible restraint by not involving law enforcement. We had just walked in to play a few games with friends, but after witnessing that level of hostility and unprofessionalism, we turned around and left immediately. Outside, the grandfather told me the manager still refused to return one of their personal bags, which added to the concern. Later, when I mentioned the incident to a few nearby business owners and locals, several of them said they were unfortunately not surprised. They shared that they had heard of issues involving this manager in the past. I can't personally verify those claims, but hearing the same thing from multiple unrelated people definitely raises concerns. And sure enough, other online reviews describe behavior similar to what we witnessed firsthand. My strong recommendation: avoid this place entirely. No customer especially a child should ever be subjected to that kind of behavior from a manager. The grandfather later sent me a photo of the individual involved so that we could make our local friends in the Pismo area aware of who he was.

I was able to find great deals on mini golf and arcade credits through Groupon, which definitely helped. There are tons of fun games, and the kids loved the arcade. They even managed to win prizes from the giant claw machine, which never happens, so that was a big highlight! They also have batting cages and water bumper cars, though the bumper cars were out of commission when we visited. I'd recommend eating beforehand and bringing your own drinks. The food is overpriced and not great quality. That said, the service was very friendly both at the food counter and in the arcade/ticket area.

The website will say "open," but weekday hours don't actually start until 2 PM, and that detail is buried further down. We found that out the hard way after finishing up at the pier around 11 and having to completely pivot our plans (including grabbing food elsewhere to hold the kids over). Not a dealbreaker, but definitely something to be aware of if you're visiting from out of town. Once they did open though? Completely different story. We were greeted by Robert -- and honestly, he set the tone for the entire visit. He was the only one up front at first, but you wouldn't have known it based on how smoothly everything went. Friendly, attentive, and actually present. He helped us get set up, handled food, and still managed to keep an eye on everything else going on. And yes -- he made our pizzas fast, gave us a buzzer, and sent us on our way to enjoy the games instead of waiting around. That alone? Huge. We ended up doing the arcade route first, and this is where Boomer's really surprised me. I used a Groupon deal and paid $25 for 100 points, and it just so happened to be one of their half-off arcade days. So instead of games costing 3 points, they were 1.5 -- and the machines actually show you the discount clearly. That's smart business. The card system is also way better than old-school arcades. No paper tickets flying everywhere -- everything loads directly onto the card. And for once, we actually had enough points to get decent prizes. We walked out with a bunch of toys and plushies instead of the usual "you can afford a sticker and a piece of candy" situation. At one point, my son joked that a game was "rigged," and Robert immediately stepped in -- not in a defensive way, but in a "let me make sure this kid is having a good time" way. He showed him how the game worked, pointed out that he had already won multiple times, and turned it into a funny, reassuring moment instead of letting frustration build. That kind of attentiveness stands out. We also tried the go-karts (paid separately), and I'll say this: if you're even considering it, just go for the unlimited option. One round was enough to realize we wanted to get right back in line. The kids had a blast, and even with one riding with me, it was still a great experience. We ended up spending about 2.5 to 3 hours here between food, games, and rides -- and overall spent around $100. For everything we did, that's actually a really solid value. Especially compared to places like Scandia, where you can easily drop $200 without blinking. There was also a giant claw machine with oversized bouncy balls -- both of my boys won on their first try, which felt like a miracle in itself. We couldn't take them with us (overpacked car problems), so we gave them to another family with little ones. Unexpected wholesome moment. Overall vibe: * Not overly crowded (at least when we went) * Clean and easy to navigate * Systems are modern and efficient * Staff presence was light, but Robert carried the experience If I had one note, it would be the hours communication -- that part could be clearer upfront. But once you're inside, the experience makes up for it. We came in slightly thrown off by the timing... and left with happy kids, prizes, and zero regrets. And Robert? Give that man his flowers. He made a lasting impression without even trying to. All in all a great experience and 10/10 would recommend ! BUT THEY OPEN AT 2pm on weekdays ! REMEMBER THAT !
