I had taken my car to another mechanic before being recommended to take it to Andy's. I figured a pulley seemed likely. The previous mechanic couldn't (likely wouldn't) diagnose the issue, simply told me the noise was coming from inside the engine and that i should just drive it until it drops. A friend then recommended Andy's. Andy looked at it, diagnosed the issue within minutes and took it in for repair. He replaced the alternator and belt, now it runs beautifully again. Andy and Karen are amazing people! My car broke down right off the exit and I made it to the gas station. It was late at night and so they came to the gas station to look at my car first thing in the morning. I loved that they came to me so I didn't have to pay for a tow!! They fixed it right there at the gas station!! i was on a cross country road trip and because of them, my drive went very smoothly the rest of the way! They are so kind and great at what they do!! I couldn't be happier! I received a call from my daughter Sunday morning letting me know her car wouldn't start... she's in Grinnell Iowa and I'm in Las Vegas! I started calling around and more than one person recommended Andy's. I had the car towed to his shop and hoped for a call on Monday. Andy called Monday morning to let me know that he received the car, had already ordered parts and hoped to have the car back to her by the end of the day. She's flying home for Thanksgiving and needs to catch a flight out of Des Moines! Nobody ever answers the phone, there is nowhere to wait for your repair and it's filled with cigarette smoke. Affordable but when asked, they said they didn't have time to fix my car and didn't offer to make a follow up appointment to do so. read more

AWFUL customer service. This business does NOT have the customer in mind. I called this disgusting excuse of an auto shop one day to obtain a quote for a car issue I was having. The quote was much, much more than I was expecting but then again I am not all that familiar with cars. I went ahead and made an appointment but decided to do some research in the meantime. In an attempt to save money, I looked for the parts online to see if I could get a deal. I hit the jackpot because the parts I needed were $400 less online than what it would have cost me at Andy's. The appointment I scheduled was on a Monday and I discovered the amazing deal over the weekend, which they are closed. The parts would not have arrived in time for Monday so I had to call and cancel. I left a voicemail over the weekend because I wanted to give as much notice as humanly possible when a weekend is involved so that they knew immediately coming in Monday morning I would not be there. I felt bad about the situation but what could I do... I am not going to apologize for saving a big chunk of change. I also was not a no call, no show, which I am sure happens a lot in this type of business. I had the respect to give them a call and let them know I would not be there. I did not explain to them the reason for my absence, so for all they knew, I was in the hospital or some other bad event happened. However, I did express in my voicemail I wanted to re-schedule for a date in the near future. I called them back a week later when the parts arrived to re-schedule, my call was not answered. I called them five times that day. That seems excessive but I assumed no one was available to answer the phone. For the next three days, I probably called 20+ more times and never got an answer. It's pretty obvious they have caller ID and chose to ignore me because a small business over the course of 3 days is not going to avoid that many phone calls. That is INSANE to me. I realize I have some responsibility in the matter as well but that is extremely poor service in my opinion. Especially when you look at the big picture and understand they had NO idea why I canceled. It's gross to me a business would be so petty as to ignore a customer so obviously because they canceled an appointment. Things come up in life, grow up. Avoid this place altogether because their people skills SUCK! However, if you do need to make an appointment here for whatever reason, make 100% sure you don't have any unplanned events arise in your life like getting stuck in the hospital or having a family member pass away because Andy's Auto won't forgive you for all of time for putting your health above their/his precious paychecks. read more
