My husband hired them to put in a barbecue area in our backyard and pavers with trees in the front of our house. Then he suggested adding on some plants by our master bedroom window and behind the barbecue area. That's where the trouble began. All work was approved in August. We decided on honeysuckles on trellises and camellias. The work for the barbecue area and the front of the house went well and on schedule. The area behind the barbecue area and by the master bedroom were not completed. It kept getting put off. The job was started in August and was not finished until the following April. Excuses included that the plants were not available at the nursery that they use. That actually was a bit of a relief since they wanted to plant them in January and I was afraid that they would freeze. Then March rolls around and I ask if we could go to the nursery that they use and pick out the honeysuckles and camellias. There was not much to pick from, but we decided on coral honeysuckle for behind the barbecue area and purple honeysuckle and two white camellias for the master bedroom area. Unfortunately, the only white camellias available were on trellises. I told my husband that it might cause a problem, but if they asked for more money that would be perfectly fine. Unfortunately, no one spoke to us about it. Their answer to the problem was simply to leave out the trellises for the honeysuckles. Now we have honeysuckles that are planted too far from the fence with no trellises. This company is either lacking in communication with customers or does not have enough experience with smaller plants. I recommend them for stonework, paving, and tree planting, but not for smaller plants. Their pricing is very reasonable. Just be sure that they understand what is important to you for example trellises. Also be sure that they don't do any planting in January when your plants are liable to freeze. Better yet just stick to the stonework and paving. They are great at that!

Foundation Repair of CA (FRC) is the most disreputable, dishonest company I've ever encountered. I…read morehired them because I didn't want to hire the lowest bidder for a change, and I regret it. I wouldn't sign the contract when told I'd have to do my own masonry repair until sales agent Jesse Marquez showed me FRC corporate material that indicated the brick facade would be removed with a masonry saw, in an approximate 2x2' square. That was false and deceptive advertising. This is what they did to my house. No masonry saw was used, only impact drills, which act as small jackhammers. FRC significantly damaged the entire brick facade, adjacent areas showed extensive cracking, entire areas had the brick facade knocked completely off the house, and the wall foundation was separated from the brick wall entirely. I told the work crew, headed by Luis, to stop using impact wrenches on the bricks immediately, then told them TWICE. Not only did they not stop, despite direct STOP work orders, they then took all of the bricks they'd destroyed, which legally is theft, called conveyance. Jesse Marquez explained that the bricks were so old they'd shattered. Luis returned the bricks after Jesse Marquez called, ignoring my several phone calls and texts. Jesse texted that the bricks were so old they'd shattered. Luis returned them, none were shattered, all were broken by the impact drills. Luis confirmed, texting that the bricks were "broken". They took the bricks to hide the damage. The day FRC received my Contractor's State Licensing Board complaint, FRC messaged that someone would come to assess the damage for repairs, and FRC would repair the masonry they'd destroyed. They first sent Robert Pagan, who acknowledged both that there were no masonry saw marks, and that the damage was excessive. According to FRC, Jesse stated Robert hadn't said this. It wasn't until I pointed out he'd said it while standing in front of a Ring camera did that lie die. FRC then sent Troy Knight, who acknowledged the same, and stated he was there to help, and would see that the masonry was repaired and more. I have several texts, voicemails and emails from FRC stating they will complete the job. They never did. FRC employee Mike Crites was sent to perform the repairs. He returned the following week with the wrong sized bricks in the wrong color, and proceeded to do more damage. This is the work that they did. FRC employee Mike Crites initially stated that he had retired as a mason, he later revised that statement, saying he'd only worked with pavers and concrete. The work performed was so substandard, FRC sent Jovincio, who was the only honest person in my entire dealings with FRC. Jovencio said he wasn't a mason, but had "some training". Jovencio replaced the work done by Mike Crites. This is Mike's effort, and Jovincio's replacement work. The work performed is clearly substandard and unacceptable. FRC acknowledged the workers sent lacked the skills, training and necessary certifications to perform masonry repairs. When I requested that FRC send a mason, and included photos of the work, FRC responded that they'd done me a favor; the workers sent were a courtesy. The very clause they'd ignored (and invalidated) by removing the bricks was cited. That they would do no more, leaving me with the bill for their damage. This is what they left. I obtained a second quote to repair the deficient masonry 'work' FRC workers had done - without a REQUIRED permit, with no mortar pins, odd-sized and broken bricks mortared in randomly, mortar lines that range from non-existent to more than an inch. Crites' also removed the brick facade foundation in several sections, replacing it with sloppy concrete. This is a code-violating 'repair' that is neither plumb nor square. The legitimate mason company from whom I obtained a repair quote updated the quote, which has nearly doubled BECAUSE of the 'repairs' performed by the unqualified FRC employees. FRC called this doing me a favor, saying the inept crew was sent as a 'courtesy'. This is not doing me a favor, this is not a courtesy, this is at best fraud. After signing the contract (under false pretenses), Jesse insisted I needed an additional pier ($3,155) because piers can no longer be placed under a window. A pier was placed under the window. Two other piers were not placed according to the county approved structural engineering ($1,850) diagram. Half the piers were installed in the wrong places, apparently according to Luis' whims. Yesterday Groundworks gave an estimate on properly placing those piers. That's how I learned that the improperly placed piers had lifted a joist completely off its foundation supports. This, too, will require additional expense to correct, before it damages my house - literally to the roof. I should have stuck with Groundworks. This is your cautionary tale - no one who values integrity, ESPECIALLY senior women, shouldn't hire FRC.

I recently moved and went looking for a contractor to handle the renovation project in my new home…read more My mom and I met several contractors, did walk-throughs of the project, interviews, etc. Once we meet Florentino, we knew he was the right man for the job. He arrived on time for the appointment, listened to our wants and needs, offered some professional suggestions to enhance our desired results, and provided a quote for the project quickly. Our project budget was just under $90,000. Florentino did a great job of completing the project on time and under budget. He kept us informed every step of the way and adapted to any changes that needed to be made at the last minute. He never complained, kept workers on task, and communicated expectations and deadlines throughout the project. The work done by Florentino included the following: demolition of walls, constructing new walls, installing french doors, installing hardwood floors, natural stone floors, install of all tile shower in guest bath, paint interior and exterior of house, install new side door, pour concrete walkway, new vinyl gate and fence, two alumawood patios (one 6x8 feet, one 12 x 56 feet), electrical work (adding, moving, and replacing outlets and switches), new granite counter tops with new sink and back-splash, retrofitting existing cabinets for new appliances, and hang multiple ceiling fans and lighting fixtures. I am extremely pleased by the work Florentino has done and proud to recommend him to anyone in need of his services. I cannot say enough good things about him, his work ethic, and his character.

Looking for a great fence contractor? Keep looking because this one isn't! I hired McGraw…read moreConstruction to build a fence after reading reviews and their price being competitive from other quotes. I had a good feeling about working with Florentino and the job started off well. He was good about responding to my texts and questions and was timely to start the job. Overall I was happy with the work but looking back there were some issues I wish worked out better. I liked them but just don't feel I got what I paid for. I wish the overall communication with me, as a customer, was better. Florentino mentioned before starting the job that he and his crew does not work weekends. My job began midweek and was told if it wasn't completed by Friday, it would be by Monday which I didn't have issue with. I drove into town that Saturday to check on the progress and was surprised to find Florentino working on it. It wasn't an issue with me but my tenant wasn't too happy since they were having a large family function and was concerned about the work/noise during their event. I wish I knew so that I could have communicated that to my tenants. Per my request, McGraw installed a 4" mow strip which the fence sits on. The fence posts are 6" wide and sticks out past the mow strip, looking off. I am not an experienced fence builder. I would have appreciated being advised to go with a 6" mow strip to have the end result look uniform. The original photo I showed Florentino of the end look, as far as the tiered design going from high to medium to small height (fence in front yard separating my property from neighbors) was not correct, therefore had to be changed twice. This caused him to stay longer now into the early evening because he didn't want to return the next day or Monday and caused issue with my tenant due to tenant needing to get to bed early for work the next day. Communication from Florentino would have been important and would have saved time if I was called to be informed/advised design would need an additional board to be removed in order to match previous design change. Included in my quote was to replace a walk through gate entering my side yard to the backyard. I noticed the boards on the bottom of the gate were not even. Per my request they were cut evenly. How could you not have them even or not notice that?! Then I noticed the original posts for the gate were not replaced and the entire section wobbled. The posts are original and 20 yrs old. I requested the entire section to be replaced. Only the fence boards were replaced leaving the original wobbly posts and the X section boards replaced after I insisted. He explained to me that the posted were not damaged and still in good condition. I felt more like he didn't want to take the time to do it. I would have liked a call saying "Hey, these posts are very loose. Do you want us to replace or leave alone and only replace the fence boards?". A month and half later there are three fence boards that are warped and making the entire design unappealing. Cedar was decided for this job. It's been stated to me that cedar is not the best to work with and looks like the most inexpensive kind was used on my project. It was not communicated to me in the job estimate stage from Florentino the life span and effects of cedar. Not knowing about fencing, I would have expected to be somewhat educated/advised by an experienced contractor on wood types. Unfortunately, it looks like the boards will need replacing within a year after spending over $3,000 for this project. I don't feel McGraw went over/beyond on my job, rather wanted to get it done in the quickest way and charged more than I should have paid. Wish I could feel more warm/fuzzy on this one. Next project I will do more homework.

This review is long overdue, but more than a year after completing our pool, I can confidently say…read morethat choosing this pool builder was one of the best decisions we made. Ours was somewhat of a DIY pool project. I had the plans designed separately and received bids from several qualified pool builders. After speaking with them and learning that they use their own in-house specialists for each stage of the build, I felt much more comfortable moving forward with them. Their gunite crew does gunite every day. Their tile specialist focuses specifically on tile. The same level of experience applied throughout the entire project. Instead of relying on outside subcontractors whose schedules and quality could be unpredictable, they had experienced crews who knew their jobs and worked together consistently. That ended up being one of the biggest advantages of hiring them. Our pool was completed on time and built properly. The concrete turned out even better than I expected--and I am extremely picky when it comes to concrete work. Mariah, our main point of contact, did an excellent job keeping us informed about every step of the process. She always let us know what was coming next, which crew was scheduled, and when they would arrive. Because the crews were in-house, she had a strong understanding of the schedule and could reliably communicate when the work would be completed. Even more importantly, their service did not end after construction. About a year later, one of our LED lights and our pool robot had issues. They followed up and helped arrange warranty service for both items. That level of support after the project was completed says a lot about the company. Throughout the build, I also felt comfortable asking for their opinions and recommendations. They were helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to guide me whenever I needed advice. For anyone managing a DIY pool project or comparing bids, I highly recommend considering them for the entire build. Their price may initially come in slightly higher than the lowest bidder, but keeping everything coordinated under one experienced team can prevent delays, miscommunication, and costly problems later. Their final price was fair, and the quality, organization, communication, and continued support made it absolutely worthwhile. We still keep in contact with the team, and I would highly recommend them to anyone building a pool. If I ever build another one, I would hire them again without hesitation. Truly a five-star experience.
