My husband had a colonoscopy with Dr Andrew Mayer yesterday. This is the second one under his care. Not only did he do a detailed, great job, both pre-op and post-op, his entire team from the RNs to the anesthesiologist were excellent. I would highly recommend him for anyone that needs an endoscopy themselves. read more

The phones in this office are NEVER answered and you have to leave a message. With luck you get a call back in 3 days or maybe not. It took over a month to schedule an appointment because of this telephone tag. Now the want me to pay the bill online but they have not given my a bill stating how much I owe! This is a ridiculous way to run a practice and I will not be returning. read more

Very professional staff! Everyone I contacted was friendly, professional and attentive! The nursing staff made me comfortable and explained each process. The anesthesiologist met with me explaining the medications he would b using to put me under for the procedure. Once in the surgery room. Dr Mayer explained the procedure and what might happen based on what he might find during the procedure. The anesthesiologist started the medication through my IV. Before he injected all the meds, I was out! 30 mins later I was awake and Dr Mayer explained how the procedure went. Within minutes after waking up I felt great w very little effects of the anesthesia and walked out and headed home. I highly recommend Dr Mayer and his staff!! Professional, friendly, personable and attentive. I felt like everyone cared and enjoyed their job. read more

I thank Dr. Mayer and his entire staff for their outstanding attention, guidance on preparation, calm, kind and friendly dedication to my personal "adjusting" from welcome to post procedure resting. For my first time, I have to say Dr. Mayer and his team were amazing. They are a very professional team, and very helpful through all the preparation. It only took about 30-40mins - and the sleeping drug they used was like a Time Machine. You wake up not knowing anything happened.... and ready to go on with your day. They were highly recommended from a good friend (who is also a senior nurse practitioner) and I also give my highest recommendation to this A+ team. One suggestion would be to take the pills instead of the liquid Suprep! read more

My review for Dr. Andrew Mayer of La Jolla Gastroenterology Medical Group located at 9850 Genesee Ave, #820, La Jolla, CA 92037 My appointment was for a Colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. My family has a history of all types of cancers. Regular screening will help to keep a close eye on any new developments. Of course, the prayer is for none. But if there is early detection is the best of a worst-case scenario. My experience from the moment I walked into the office was pleasant and positive. From office administration to every nurse with a kind bedside manner. Asking if I feel okay? To confirming my registration information. The process was exchanged easily and kindly. My Anesthesiologist was warm, reassuring, and professional. She was clear in her instructions in regards to the procedure. Dr. Mayer's office staff was helpful, attentive, warm, and helped ease my nerves completely for my upcoming procedures. And being wheeled into the office or the surgical area. Dr. Mayer was kind and attentive and completely reassuring, he was patient and graciously answered all of my questions. Which helped ease my nerves. I appreciated that very much. And the anesthesiologist was so good, she talked me through every step along the process. I didn't feel harshly blacked out. I was woken up easily, no jarring surprises. It felt like a quick nap. Then it was over as quick as it began. And they wrapped it up just as amazing as they started it. I am very grateful. I will be back at the recommended time as discussed by Dr. Meyer. I wish I could give this team 10 stars because that's how I feel. Thank you, for the wonderful experience. read more

Dr.Mayer saved my Father's life by spotting cancer that would normally not be picked up in a standard colonoscopy. All of our family trusts him with our lives and I would recommend you do the same. Everyone on staff was excellent. Really easy procedure. No brainer. Go get your Colonoscopy ahead of time. read more

I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Andrew Mayer. He is incredibly kind, thorough, patient, and an excellent doctor. He always listened to me when it came to my many thoughts, questions, and concerns. He explained everything to me about my procedure before and even came to discuss afterwards. I never felt rushed or silly for asking questions. I appreciate him for not just his skill but also his bedside manner. He made a nerve-wracking experience so much better. I left feeling taken care of and grateful to have him as my doctor. read more

Dr Mayer is an amazing doctor. Both in skill and his empathy and care for patients. I was a bundle of nerves and had a whole bunch of concerns. He spent the time understood where I was coming from, answered all my questions, and reassured me so much, it just meant a lot to me. His staff was also extremely sweet and considerate. Cannot recommend Dr Mayer and his team enough! read more

I have been going to Dr. Mayer for 6 years, and while the situation is embarrassing to discuss, most likely he saved my life. It cannot be said that I am an easy patient, and when it comes to things like colonoscopies I think most people are nervous. As a 41 year old, I was having some issues and Dr. Mayer listened and assessed the issue and created a plan to keep me healthy. Which is working out perfectly. Dr. Mayer talks to you like a person. He takes the time to consult with you in his office before you schedule any procedures he discusses exactly what you can expect. He has a very calming bedside manner, I am high anxiety when it comes to anything medical but Dr. Mayer is patient and listens. When you come in for your procedure he talks to you before and makes sure you are comfortable. Dr. Mayer never makes me feel like a number, he remembers me even though I have only been in 3 times over 6 years, he takes a personal interest in his patients. He will ask about my work and family - which is really nice, I truly believe he cares about his patients. Dr. Mayer's office is clean and the staff is so friendly. They are happy to help you with whatever they can and they do so with a smile. In the surgery center the nurses are flat out awesome, the atmosphere is light and cheerful, not at all what you would expect, it really helps if your are anxious like I am. Dr. Mayer is quick with a joke too, he knows the right time and place. He is so great this time I brought my husband for his routine testing - he also has nothing but great things to say about the facility, nurses and Dr. Mayer. Overall, choosing a doctor is tricky, and there are a lot of choices. Dr. Mayer is the only doctor I will go to for endoscopic care. I have changed my insurance twice to make sure I can still see him when I need to follow up on our plan. I would highly recommend Dr. Mayer and I am forever grateful he listened to me and perhaps as a result saved my life. read more

Dr. Mayer is great and he deserves more than 5 stars. The negative is for some of the office staff who can be insensitive to the needs and anxiety of the patients. For example, when you call to make an appointment they *never* answer the phone. You get the usual "busy with another patient" etc. You can believe this once or twice, but it seems to be more a case of "don't call us, we'll call you." Along with all the other other patients who were trying to call, you are waiting on them. It should be the other way around - that is their job. In addiiton, you are told that they will call back within 24-48 hours. What? You mean even if you are free to call back in 10 minutes I am still going to have to wait for 24 hours to go by before my 24-48 hours call slot starts? read more

Feeling anxious about a colonoscopy or endoscopy is perfectly normal. And no one likes the prep but the MiraLAX with Ducolex is an easy way to go... Literally! All kidding aside Dr. Mayer and his office is top notch! Beginning with the initial intake appointment, I found him to patiently listen to my concerns and his reassuring, calm and positive nature came across. He has a kind, caring, competent and gentle staff and I felt absolutely no discomfort. The anesthesiologist listened to my concerns and honored my requests. I can't say enough positive things about this experience and I wouldn't hesitate to send family or friends to this office. read more

My husband was referred to Dr. Mayer by the emergency room at Scripps La Jolla. We called to make an appointment were told that the person who handled making appoints was not available and they took our name and phone number and were to call back. It took 3 more calls before we made an appointment. At the appointment a biopsy was taken and we were to be called with the results. We called 4 times to get the results as waiting 3 1/2 weeks to hear the results was getting way to stressful. Finally they called back after my wife called and got rude with them. The next day they called with the results. we found this office to be very unorganized and uncaring for their patients. I would not go back to this office. read more

Having to have a colonoscopy is not at the top of anyone's list of fun things to do, especially the prep day before procedure. Dr. Andrew Mayer is exceptional and his staff makes the process as easy as possible. Whether calling his office and being greeted by the friendly voice of Maria, to speaking with Syndie, Dr. Mayer's scheduler, his office staff is efficient in getting you the necessary info so there are no questions the day of the procedure. The professional bedside manner of Dr. Andrew Mayer makes 'going to the doctor' a positive experience and appreciate how he takes the time to talk with you before and afterwards. His preop team from Emily, the nurse anesthesist who's excellent taking care of the patient with a great attitude helped me feel at ease and post op with the RN Dean helped make this experience positive. If you want a positive experience, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Mayer and his team of caring, professionals. read more

Had a few office visits and an endoscopy wit Dr. Mayer. On office visits he escorts you to his office himself. Update of my review 3 years ago. I still give Dr. Mayer 5 starts. I give the office staff 1 to 3 stars. It's extremely difficult having your call answered with a live person. You'll hear a recorded message and at times no follow through. If the person has too many responsibilities hire a person just to make appointments just as other practices do. read more

I just had a lot of digestive issues I'm at a good weight a lifestyle of plenty of exercise, good diet, nonsmoker, nondrinker and was very frustrated and anxious about my health. My husband needed a colonoscopy and I was having a difficult time trying to find a good doctor in the Murrieta/Temecula area. So I decided to check other areas and found Dr.Mayer. I am so grateful I did. My husband had the best patient care from this doctor and his office/facility. Dr. Mayer allowed me to come to the back when my husband was coming out of anesthesia and was extremely informative and detailed with us. The staff was amazing and very helpful. I will be going there next year for my colonoscopy as I highly recommend Dr.Mayer. Huge thank you! read more

You are unable to speak with Dr Meyer, instead, you have to talk to his assistant that is below par & rude! The Dr said I should go to the emergency room next time I have a flair up with my stomach, and I should have them do a Ct scan on me. After thinking this through, I left a message to get a letter or Rx for the CT scan, because I can't just walk in emergency and tell them what test I need done, by his assistant just says, no he can't issue an Rx. She just talked in circles. She is a waste of Money and my time! I will NOT be back and I will advise the referring Doctor that she needs better referrals, as he was a waste of my time nd money! read more

The office staff was very efficient and friendly. There was no waiting time to get in for my procedure. Everyone made me feel very comfortable. Dr Mayer is friendly and confident and takes his time with any questions you have. I drove from Temecula to his La Jolla office and wouldn't go anywhere else in the future. The quality of his care and office staff is a 10 and volumes above any of the places I've been to in Temecula. I highly recommend Dr. Mayer and his co-workers!! read more

Personalized service in a big city! Wonderful bedside manner. The doctor even comes out in the waiting room to get you for your appointment...who does that anymore?? Great doctor, easy to talk to, very knowledgeable and fantastic staff! Ms Cindy is amazing. Well worth any wait, drive, or excuse you may find to go to another practice. This is where you should be going! Note: For the record, I do not know anyone at this office on a personal level. It's just refreshing to find a great doctor and staff doing a wonderful job. read more

Dr Mayer is an exceptional doctor. I did not feel rushed during his appointment and he answered my questions completely. I was very nervous about the procedure and he helped put my mind at ease. The day of the procedure, his staff ensured that I was comfortable and that the pre-op was flawless. Dr Mayer was by my side for questions and assurances; and the procedure went exactly the way he described. I had absolutely no pain and I attribute this to Dr Mayer. I highly recommend Dr Mayer and his staff and I feel fortunate that my primary care physician referred me to Dr Mayer. read more

After putting off a follow up colonoscopy for more years than I'd like to admit, I was so thrilled to have been referred to Dr Mayer as I quickly learned how caring and attentive he was from the very start. I had some anxiety around having the procedure and Dr Mayer and Cindy his assistant both calmed my nerves through every step in the process and answered every question I had and even some I didn't know I had. He suggested both an endoscopy and colonoscopy based on the symptoms and my history and I was so glad he did. He gave me an overview of the procedure right afterward and followed up two weeks later to give me the full report. All of the staff at the La Jolla endoscopy center were also amazing and made the whole experience quite pleasant. If you need to have a colonoscopy, Dr Mayer's office makes it a real breeze. Don't put it off because you're scared or think it will be uncomfortable. You'll be well taken care of and it might just save your life. read more

Dr. Mayer and staff were exceptional. From the initial video appointment to the procedure, Dr. Mayer made you feel comfortable and confident about the whole process. He seemed to really hone in and listen to my concerns and come up with a game plan. I had to have the dreaded colonoscopy as well as an endoscopy. When I got there, the staff was quick to get it going, thank goodness, and they were flawless in their personality and care. For instance, just the fact that they put my IV in without me hardly feeling it was a small feat since I have super small veins. Then like they told me a nice nap and done! So, you all know you have to do this, so I highly recommend going to a Doctor and staff that will make it pleasant. I have never written a review on Yelp but felt a need for this to be my first one. read more

Dr. Mayer and his entire staff were amazing and so welcoming for my first colonoscopy. They were very attentive and made me feel comfortable upon arrival. From the warm blanket to the fun conversations, they took my mind off of the procedure, which I was dreading (and I had repeatedly delayed.) Well, I shouldn't have! Other than the liquid you have to drink the day before (it doesn't taste that bad but there's a lot of H20 involved) and the fact that you can't eat, it's a piece of cake. In fact, I don't have any recollection of the procedure at all -- it was the best nap. One of the first things I said was upon waking up was, "I feel like I've been on Spring Break in Cancun!" Weird, I know. But the point is, it didn't hurt AT ALL and now I've actually taken care of business and have peace of mind. I highly recommend Dr. Mayer and his incredible team!! read more

Dr. Andrew Mayer and his staff managed to make a really awful procedure (colonoscopy) relatively "easy". Dr. Mayer is incredibly personable and likeable. Who doesn't want to like the person that is about to go scoping thru their you-know-what? His easy going demeanor really put me at ease. I'm very grateful he was my doctor for this. His office manager Syndie was very helpful and quick in responding to all of my additional questions leading up to the appointment. The day of the procedure, i think there were maybe 5-6 nurses there to prep and check on me. I felt very well taken care of. The procedure itself i can barely recall and that's fine by me. Before leaving, Dr. Mayer checked on me and let me know how it went. The paperwork i was given before i left even included 4 snapshots of "landmarks" in the colon. I think other places you actually have to request this. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better doctor. Highly recommend Dr. Mayer. read more
