Shona Art is really moving, this is not your run of the mill knick knack shop. This is a real Gallery which features a lot of Shona Sculptures from some of the best artists. I would venture to guess this is one of the few locations on the Pen who carries these high end African sculptures. I like very modern and abstract things, and I am quite the fan of Shona. I have met some of the artists and they are really positive people. If you like Spirit and Stone but dont feel like the long hall to Berkeley , and you want to chat with a owner who is both gracious and knowledgeable then try your hand at Giungla Arte, and you can stay for a coffee at Il Piccalo and have a bite at Rocca's

It's on the third floor. The co-working space also houses a software business. The art is on the walls throughout the space. The art involves an interesting selection that I found stimulating. It is contemporary and difficult to conceive making. It did not seem to house major artists, but some artists that need a boost. Mirus Gallery has some events at times, but I had my visit today..and that is enough for a while. It's nice that they included the gallery with the Yerba Buena community day.

We wanted to see more of their featured artist (Sandra Chevrier) so we visited them in SF a few days later. When we got there, Tim remembered us from the art fair and let us browse the amazing space. The entry lobby is on the first floor but 90% of the gallery is hidden away on the third floor, which has long walls and lots of diffused natural light. We were able to enjoy the whole show and never felt rushed or pressured to buy. I emailed them a bit later and they were quick to respond. I'm glad I found a new gallery that shows cool artists and treats visitors as long term customers.

My new neighborhood art gallery: a tiny space showcasing artists on the walls -- presently the…read moreawesome Walt Hall -- and selling a colorful spectrum of goodies, from small books of the Mark Ryden and Banksy variety, glossy art mags like Hi-Fructose, and other items like bags. (The online shop's got cool shit, too, like work by Jenna Colby and Luc Martin.) It's a small place, next door to the Babylon Burning Screen Printing shop -- a "hobby" project of sorts for these folks. I'm looking forward to buying some pieces for my bare walls, and seeing what they'll display next.

Located in the netherblocks between the Mission and Portrero EHG is a promising place to see a…read moresegment of the local San Francisco art scene. Alot of the work featured here can be generalised as being after a fashion - art school and bohemian. In other words amid some of the successes you will see some things that don't make the cut. Whatever, that usually happens in most art spaces and here it's about 50-50 - the lower end of that margin though is never a disaster and regardless, heading in the right direction. The upper end of their successes have gained international recognition in acquisition of work by Emily Prince that is now part of the the Saatchi collection. Others are also featured in high profile shows like the Venice Biennalle. Walking by the space at Alabama and 25th you wouldn't know that though: it almost looks like it used to be a laundromat - converted now to a more inviting venue. Despite the 'art-school' insularity of opening show attendees the staff are friendly and helpful. Because of this a visit during the weekend when the crowd is not around is a better opportunity to learn more about the art. This is an excellent place for starting collectors to buy adventurous art in the less than $1000 range although it does get more expensive than that for good reasons. It will be interesting to see how they progress given the successes of its still emerging artists.

A small one, but a mistake, mistakes are NOT allowed here by the landlord(Terri). I offered to correct my mistake. Then Terri ghosted me. Also, I picked up on a definite not gay LGBT friendly vibe here. Pretend to be a hip, cool place and it just isn't. I am trans and got strange looks from staff. Just to be safe, I would avoid this place!
