After reading through multiple reviews on Yelp and BuildZoom, we shortlisted 5 and ended up…read morechoosing Apollo after interviewing and getting quotes from all of them. During the very first onsite interaction, a few others simply gave a random number and later changed it quite a bit for a slightly more detailed quote. But Apollo took his time during the first appointment, made some calculations and gave a number. And then followed it up with a detailed line-by-line estimate - interestingly that was the same quote we used to settle the final dues. He is as good with numbers as he is with construction details. Our project involved a 1950's house - we completely gutted the place and also added some square footage. The wiring and plumbing was all redone, a brand new kitchen, fully redone bathrooms just to name a few. On day 1 he quoted 90days (from permit approval), he ended up taking a little over 110days. The +20days was due to an unanticipated delay in windows delivery. Apollo had multiple other projects underway and this delay was causing a logistical nightmare for him and initially asked to push the completion by 3 extra months. But after a good discussion, he came up with creative ways to make progress and lineup inspections. Considering he finished it with 20 extra days than original quote is some achievement! (An average contractor will slip by at least 3-6 months by default). Some traits that stood out for us through the project - + Apollo was very responsive and communicative, he will pick up your call at 7:00am or even 10:00pm and will show the same energy and positive attitude + He will keep you up to date on weekly basis, when appropriate on a daily basis and during the crunch time even hourly basis + Apollo has a very experienced team (some said they have been with him for over 10yrs) and they were all very skilled and meticulous + Although he didn't commit to it or charge us extra, he worked 7 days a week sometimes even late into the night to get stuff done Overall, you will not go wrong with Apollo. He is not cheap but he is not super expensive either he will be very competitive in his bid and most importantly transparent to the final penny! The key is to be equally engaged with the contractor to make sure you get things the way you want and communicate accordingly, and Apollo will make it happen!

After doing a great job on the exterior of our home in Santa Clara last year, Cal Painting &…read morePlastering earned another five-star review for painting the entire interior earlier this year. Jake, the project manager, ensured that every aspect of the job was successful. From the first walk-through of our home to the very last details, Jake asked good questions, made excellent suggestions, and always communicated clearly and professionally. The estimate we approved was clear and complete, and there were never any "surprises" in scope or cost. Having lived in our home for more than 30 years, we have enough "stuff" to make emptying the house for painting impractical. Fortunately, Cal Painting & Plastering was willing to work with us to paint the interior of our three-bedroom, two-bath house in several phases. Cal Painting & Plastering employs skilled craftsmen with extensive experience. We were again impressed by the ways in which those craftsmen paid attention to details, including outstanding wallboard repairs and texture matching. Roberto, Jenaro and Christian were always efficient, and they always took excellent care to protect the furniture that had to remain in some of the rooms. It was inevitable that some unforeseen issues would arise during our interior painting, as they had during the exterior paint and stucco work. Once again, Jake was always responsive to the situation, communicating well with us and with the craftsmen working on our home. Inside and out, our home is more beautiful than it's ever been, thanks to Cal Painting & Plastering!

We hired Cal Painting and Plaster to repair the plaster on the interior of our 1940's house and…read morethen paint. The plaster came out beautifully. Better than we could have ever hoped. The paint has been an utter disaster. It has been peeling off in strips all over the house since the job was finished in 2024. Even the repair that was done a year later has not held, and today installing shelves caused the paint on the repaired wall to peel off in a huge strip. The paint detaches from the wall if you bump it, it you put a sticky note on it to show where an outlet needs to be installed, and if you use painter's tape. The repair, where they stripped All the paint off the wall, applied a new primer and repainted is just as bad as before the repair. I don't know why this is happening. Neither Jake, Billy or any of the painters could explain. We heard something about using the wrong primer (on the whole interior), but even the "new" primer didn't hold the paint. Perhaps this is a fault with the paint itself, but since we only picked the color and they ordered and selected the paint, the quality was in their hands. We are teachers. We spent $40K on this job and it took us a LONG time to save that much. We can't afford to have this repaired by another company and we don't trust Cal Painting to do it either.

He also helped me with a lot of misc work around the house such as window latches, electrical, fan replacement in bathroom, caulking in kitchen and bathroom, lock for attic. His team (David) did an excellent job on interior painting. They removed all the inside doors, light fixtures, blinds etc before painting. Spray painted doors, baseboards. Electrical work was perfect. Chris's electrician tried extremely hard not to cut unnecessary holes in the wall. Huge difference between Chris's team and another electrician I had hired who had recommended cutting many unwanted holes. Chris electrician cut 1 as opposed to proposed 4 by another electrician. He made several trips to give me free consultations. He was very flexible to ideas from us and found the right team who would be willing to work with us. We requested him to go with epoxy grout for example and he was fine with it. On the whole he is very pleasant to work with and very reasonable price for painting, tile work and misc items. We really lucked out getting help from Chris without whom we would really have a tough time getting the house ready for renting last summer. Really appreciate Chris and his team's work. Sorry for the delay in posting this.

We decided the best way to do this was to build an additional bathroom for the master that would flow and work well with the floor plan of the house. We got an architect who ended up referring us to Jimmy and his son Chris. After getting a few quotes from other contractors, we decided to go with Chris and Jimmy. As for the price range, Chris and Jimmy were a bit on the higher side; they weren't the most expensive but they weren't exactly the cheapest either. We decided it was best to go with Jimmy because he seemed very knowledgable and detailed in his work. He made us feel comfortable in trusting him with our home. Fast forward 3 months later; Jimmy, Chris, and their crew did an amazing job. It was well worth every penny we spent on it. We loved it so much that we ended up remodeling the hallway bathroom too. They were so prompt and accommodating to our wants and needs. My parents and I are still waiting for their schedule to free up a bit so they can come back and work on our kitchen!
