This restaurant is located next to on the Munich Cathedral and near Marienplatz. However you can enjoy a nice meal far from the noise. The restaurant has a nice outdoor area overlooking the cathedral. The food we ordered was very good and the beer was great. The portions size were decent. Our server was very helpful and walked us through the menu. The entire family enjoyed our time at this location. My understanding is that the beer I had, is only served by this establishment. I would definitely go back next time I am in Munich.

One of the few places we've seen with a variety of beef options. Quality food despite being near the Marian Platz touristy area. Bavarian beef Bouillon - with a Wagyu liver dumpling Clear broth, light bodied with parsley bits and several chickpeas. So the "dumpling" is actually a gigantic meatball made of beef and liver. Still, if you're not a fan of liver, you won't like this much. Pretzel - comes cold and hardened, which continues to confound me why they are not warmed prior to serving. Hmmm.... 1/2 roasted Bavarian Duck On the dry side, per most German cuisine, but some bites are tender and the dark gravy helps put it down. You can also replace the gelatinous potato ball with gratin potatoes if you prefer. Wagyu Bolognese Not a bad choice if you're craving Italian. The meat-noodle ratio is excellent. Andechser kaiserschmarrn Carmelized Bavarian shredded pancake (in square bits) with stewed apples and vanilla ice cream. You end up dipping the pancake bits into the sweet cup of ice cream and apples. Nothing super special. It's pretty cool to sit and people watch and it's a lively scene. Good beer/wine options as well. Das ist alles...

Great food, service, and decor! Sat outside one day and on the second floor another. Service is attentive and the host walks around and checks in with guest and staff. The best thing about this restaurant is they have the traditional dishes but some great alternatives if you need a break from the traditional dishes. Great Italian wine, side salad was tasty and the bell peppers cleansed the palate. Steak tips were good but the sauce made it. Really good and enough to mix in with the spatzle. Pasta wagyu bolognese was also good and the meat sauce was spot on. One of our favorites due to the service, variety, and food quality.

7/6/2024 - Back here again, I was here about a year ago and this time brought 2 friends with me. On the trip. Raining hard right now. Ordered two ANDECHSER SAUSAGES PLATTER 2 Nuremberger, 2 spicy sausages, 1 Wagyu Salsiccia with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes and one GRILLED KNUCKLE OF SUCKLING PIG with Andechser beer gravy, potato dumplings and green cabbage salad. Two beers and an apple strudel. Everything was very good. The Sausages were good, except the Wagyu sausage and the pig skin was excellent. The food arrived about 10 minutes after we ordered it. They have German and English menus. This is an authentic Bavarian style place to eat. Odd thing this time the waiter asked how much to include for a tip. Last year we never were asked and never been asked by anyone in Germany for a tip, never ever asked for a tip. A total of 3 stars for the food and service. I took 2 stars off for asking how much to tip. The total bill was 100 euro or about $110 US dollars. If the waiter didn't ask for a tip I would have 4 or 5 stars. Only in USA do they ask for tips for everything. So far in Denmark, Norway and Switzerland they don't ask for tips. Again, first time I was ever asked to tip in Germany and I use to live here. What is going on.

We really enjoyed this place. We went late night only for desert and coffee and it didn't disappoint. It had great ambiance and the staff were friendly.

I think this salad came as a side to another dish. I'm not sure where it is one the menu.

Awesome food, just off the main Marianplatz square. We sat outside and had great service. The traditional Bavarian platter was a great starter for all of us to try. I'm not a big meat person at all, but I loved the beef tartare and other spreads on the pretzels. Even the sausages were so much better than I'm used to in the States. I had the celery schnitzel, which was delicious enough that I'd like to try to make it at home, and that says a lot since I'm not a cook! My daughter had the bolognese. I think she had spaghetti bolognese at least once in every country we visited this summer, and this was her favorite. My husband had the Wagyu beef burger and really enjoyed it. We'd definitely seek out this place again.

It was an absolute pleasure eating here, joining the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Clinton, Robert De Niro, and more on the wall. All the food had a homemade, hearty vibe. The prezetel was nice to tie all the food together. Schnitzel with spatzle was amazing. The sausage tasting platter was a fun try with friends and the Wagyu beef burger kicks, more like beef pot roast it was so thick. Service was great.

This felt like an authentic Bavarian restaurant. It's right in the old town center so a great location if you need a break while shopping or exploring. The staff is friendly and the food is great. If you haven't had enough sausage yet, get the Andechser platter. The sausages range from a wood fired grill taste to spicy. We were recommended the white sausage on the side also. It was good but I wasn't a fan of the squishy texture. As an entree, I got the wagyu bolognese. When wagyu is on the menu, I always gravitate to it. It was tender as expected and was seasoned to fit well with the overall flavor. The freshly grated Parmesan compliments the sauce well.

    Filet

The food here was my favorite in Munich. Filet was delicious and the sausages were good. Beer is really good and the waiter treated me very well. Will go back again.

    Biergartenschmankerl - beer snacks plate

Wow. Upscale Bavarian at its finest. Different from the Kloster Biergarten in Erling, dare I say I even think I enjoyed it more. Even among the Bavarian beers, Andechs is exceptional.

This was our first dinner in Munich and it set the bar very high. The food was absolutely delicious! The service was incredible too. The server made great recommendations and was very helpful as well as very friendly. It was a very busy Saturday night and we were in and out in 1 hour without a reservation. The owner introduced himself and was so kind as well. From the appetizers to the beer everything was perfect. The sausage platter is filling and has so much flavor. The sausages are juicy and has plenty of sauerkraut and potatoes on the side. The schnitzel for the kids was perfection. Crispy on the outside with delicious succulent meat. The Schweinshaxe is second to none. It was so juicy and had a delicious roux that perfectly complemented the dumplings.

This place was awesome! It is just beautiful inside. We had a wonderful meal. And the andechs beer is spectacular - highly recommend. We even had some of the non-alcoholic Weiss beer and it was fab. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. A perfect lunch spot.

    Amazing Schnitzel!

Awesome restaurant a minutes walk (literally) from the Glockenspiel at Marienplatz. They have a bunch of outdoor seating so you can enjoy a beer, a pretzel and people watch. Literally behind the Munich Cathederal. They offer up a pretty typical German menu with what one would come to expect. Today we had hoped for some Cordon Bleu but that one thing, they don't have!!! We decided on some Weiner Schnitzel with traditional German potato salad. We were in a bit of a hurry so no beer for us today. We had "table water" and it's free! For 2 schnitzel's it was a total of €39. Kinda steep but hey, it's Germany and a tourist area. I would definitely recommend this place a block off the main "drag".

Beer culture is deeply entrenched in Germany, complete with a 500-year old beer purity law,…read moreReinheitsgebot, that strictly limits a beer's composition to only water, barley, and hops, beer's most basic ingredients. Its continuing legacy manifests as an astonishing German loyalty to their own beers, the scarcity of foreign beers, and the long shadow it casts on any domestic craft brewing. Still, if you look, microbrews exist and Tap House is a great place to find some. Modeled after American craft beer pubs, it captures the style in a dark wood look, with an impressively long bar alongside a row of bar-high tables with benches. The nearly two dozen taps heavily feature Camba Bavaria beers, a prolific domestic craft brewer that not only experiments with innovative and decidedly un-German styles, but also brews classic German styles consistent with Reinheitsgebot. Other taps and the extensive bottle list feature European microbrews, offering a wide range of styles, including sours. There's a good Belgian classics section, and a few Mikkeller's from neighboring Denmark. All served in appropriate glassware. Food and snacks are basic and unremarkable. The "tapas" platter is a bread/pretzel basket and six jars of accompaniments: prosciutto, pepperoni, slaw, diced tomatoes/onions, and two dips. Pizza was light, essentially thin flatbread. Peanuts, in a generous portion, came in a paper cone. Chips are a bag of chips, balsamic vinegar-flavored. Well worth visiting for a break from classic German beer styles to try some German microbrews, but aside from a snack, plan on eating elsewhere.

It reopened in February as a micro brewery and craft beer bar. It's located a stones throw from where we live and located in the basement of a residential building. It's been done up nicely and reminds me of small town pubs in Ireland. The menu has a lot of craft beer, some ciders, gins and so on. There is no food here and I suppose it may come at a later date. They have about 5-6 craft beers on tap. I had a Giesenger Kellerbier and it was really nice. I hope this place survives as there is not much foot traffic in the area. I'd give four stars for the food and beverage, and zero stars for the service…read more We really just wanted to find a local pub to post up at, with a good beer list and maybe a small selection of nibbles. Munich has no shortage of beer halls, and a wide variety of restaurants, but we wanted a pub. A no-frills, come-as-you-are pub. The Royal Dolores was supposed to be that. It can be a bit tricky to find, if you come in the wrong door (which we did). Luckily, the nice man at the host stand walked us to the entrance of the Dolores, and told the waitress in the doorway that we were looking for a table. She got us squared away fairly quickly, which we appreciated. We were at one of the tables by the door, and it was warm. It was such a good start, but it all went downhill from there. We were seated at about the same time as a family of four, who were given the table next to us. We both placed orders at about the same time, and we both spent the rest of our evenings trying (and failing) to flag down the waitress. We each ordered a Löwenbräu Dunkel to start, and decided to share two of their tapas plates: the Dream of Schnitzel and the Fromage de France. I lost track of the amount of time it took for our beers to be delivered to our table, and stopped trying to track time when it came to the food. The Dolores isn't very big, and they weren't all that busy when we got there, so we were at a loss as to why the service was so bad. At one point, the mom at the table next to us leaned over to ask for our help flagging down the waitress, if we saw her before they did. The Dunkel wasn't that great - it had the flat flavor that always reminds me of a brown ale, though this draft did have just a tiny bit more flavor. My husband didn't really like the beer at all. He had planned on ordering a different beer to finish the night, but with the aforementioned missing waitress, it was impossible to do. The Schnitzel was delightful, and the cheeses were good (the sauces they served with the cheeses stole the show, to be honest). I wasn't particularly hungry at the time, but my husband wanted something to nibble on while we reclined and drank - that was the plan when we arrived, at least. I know we weren't the only ones bothered by the terrible service - the family next to us made it a point to tell the person who finally stopped to help us - not our waitress, by the way - about the amount of time it took for us all to receive our orders, and the fact that we were ignored the entire evening. It's unfortunate, too, because we both really wanted to like the Dolores, just given its location and the fact that it was the closest thing to a pub we could find at that time. It really only takes one thing to ruin a night for people, though.
