Food is definitely yummy! Love the tuna sandwich on this amazing roll and is served with a side salad. Ambiance is fantastic. Menu rotates. Prices are a bit on the expensive side. Customer service is 'good enough' - not the warmest or nicest, but just okay. Would rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars, but rounded up. It's hard to start a business, let alone keep it going. read more

Breakfast sandwiches are amazing. Always get the BEC but my daughter got the hot honey biscuit sandwich last time and that's one I'm definitely trying next. Coffee is also worth the wait. That's the only drawback. I've been to two different locations. Usually takes about 30-40 at either to get food but it's always cooked fresh so if you have time it's worth the wait. read more

We just LOVE going to Ancora for breakfast on the weekends! Their food is so fresh and has amazing flavor. It can seem a bit pricey but let me tell you, it's worth it! We've gotten quite a bit of things off the menu but our favs are the eggs benedict, the Smoked Salmon Everything Bagel, Breakfast Burrito, Green Goddess Wrap, Banana Bread, and the HOMEMADE Poptart. Yum. Bonus, great atmosphere too, the staff is always so friendly and helpful, and they have a very affordable, tasty cold brew. :) read more

Top notch product in a cafe setting! We visit the Shorewood Hills location and enjoy the space to sit outdoors. The food and coffee are great, though somewhat expensive. Don't let that deter you. Pretty good overall: clean restaurant, friendly staff, and unique menu. Got a maple egg sandwich with bacon and it was satisfying yet still light. I got the mint cold brew monthly special and wished I'd chosen differently, perhaps the fruity pebbles iced latte? Mint syrup is always a gamble, shame on me. I've come here for coffee and loved it, and now I've finally tried their food. The delicious looking menu made it hard to decide, but I went with the honey biscuit sandwich and potatoes. My mom got the breakfast burrito. The breakfast sandwich was way bigger than I was expecting, and the honey gave it such a nice touch. Potatoes were better than I thought they'd be too! Only complaint was that my mom felt the burrito had a large ratio of tortilla to filling in her burrito, and she wished it had been a bit more stuffed (because the fillings were delicious). First off, the staff is always friendly. The University location has a nice set up both inside and the ability to set up patio seating outside. I really appreciate that their menu, including their daily soups, lunch sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries are frequently changing. Especially now that the mapleBlack location is making yeast donuts That are available at all of the locations. My favorite is the Chorizo hash for breakfast and the Baja Sammy for lunch. Still haven't decided on my favorite coffee. However, I do love their zombie latte which is white espresso beans with extra caffeine and a sweeter taste. read more

Menu looked appetizing. My 6 year old and I stopped in the bathroom before we ordered. He washed his hands and the water was scalding, like he has blisters now. We told the teenage manager working at the counter rolled his eyes and said "thanks for letting me know". Having water that can injure a child is one thing, but copping a sarcastic attitude when a child is injured is another. At least apologize, dude! Everything here was awesome! Great gluten free selections including gluten free scones, cookies, and blondies! I ordered the sunrise bowl with yogurt and a gluten free scone and it was amazing! Somebody else in my party ordered the bottomless coffee and the breakfast sandwich special! Both were great! Another person in my party ordered the breakfast Sammy and enjoyed it! this is my favorite coffee and food place in this town now, just love everything but the hours (please open until 5pm for weekend, now they do 3pm). It is right off the bike path behind university ave. And crossing the street is Whole Foods market. They serve good coffee and amazing sausage jalapeños and other food. The parking is actually behind the building. They do have a door facing the university ave. But the front door is other way. Ppl were friendly and the shop itself is cute and lovely, that blue wall, I love it After checking this new store out, I won't be drive to capital one anymore sorry... but I will bike to this location to get my coffee n food:) read more

Wow! Finally stopped in to this new location and am impressed. Note a lot of older reviews here are of their tiny old location. I was skeptical, because they are not my favorite coffee in town and the old joint was lackluster, but am really happy with the Guatemala I'm drinking and moist pastry I'm enjoying (cinnamon roll made of croissant dough). They have a small pastry case and all the goodies are either croissant or biscuit/scone (?) dough based. I had no idea they have a full breakfast menu! Everything sounds so yummy (breakfast sandwich biscuit with honey Sriracha butter!), but alas, I was only planning on a pastry nibble. The interior is super cute and service very nice. Some sidewalk seating in the parking lot area. Variety of tables, and sufficient outlets for computers. Free wifi, as expected. Tea lovers will also find lots of choices here. Small lunch menu, but nice options. I'm coming back for breakfast pronto! read more

Ancora is one of my go to coffee places in Madison! I get their mint cold brew and love it! They have great seasonal cold brew as well that I like to get. We really enjoyed the food at Ancora. My wife had a vegan breakfast bowl and I had the best avacado toast ever. I was thinking it was a little pricey until our orders arrived. Stopped by for a quick breakfast and coffee on our way out of town. Place was pretty busy and packed for a Sunday morning. Coffee was really good, but the food was a mixed bag. The chorizo hash was delicious and the potatoes were cooked to perfection. The eggs benedict was pretty decent, but the breakfast potatoes were a bit too salty and seemed a bit overcooked. The food here was pretty tasty but way overpriced. They serve very small portions with no sides, then charge you $10-12. Additionally, they're nazis about wearing your mask between every single bite of food and every single sip. Employees walk around enforcing this very strictly and interrupt you to ask you to pull up your mask while you're holding your food or drink in your hands. It's excessive. I understand that we're in a pandemic, however, if they're that worried about the masks, then they should just remain open for take out/delivery only, not dine in. read more

Always looking for the best brunch places and this place easily makes my top favorite places. Immediately when you walk in the fun decor catches your eye and soon you are greeted by friendly staff, happy to recommend their own favorite dishes. My friend and I ordered the chorizo hash with a smoothie and Ancora pancakes with bacon and a mimosa. The smoothie was finish to the last drop, delicious! the chorizo hash was full of flavor and the pancakes were some of the best I've ever had. And since I love mimosas I can happily report these were made to perfection. Will definitely be back. read more

Ancora Coffee is the coffee shop that Madison wants and needs, we just need it downtown! Unfortunately, the downtown location of Ancora is VERY different than this one. A full breakfast menu? Heck yeah!!! I got the egg and cheese croissant sandwich with a side of veggie sausage, both of which were out of this world delicious. I also tried their cold brew, which was good. The space is bright and open, with a garage-door style door in the front which can be opened during the summer. The staff were friendly and inviting. Seriously, go check out the menu. It is large, progressive, and tasty. It could compete with many of the downtown "brunch" spots, and I am a tough brunch critique. read more

Such a cute coffee shop! Aesthetically pleasing decor - loved the colors and the wood work. The baristas are very friendly and went over all the coffee choices on the menu. They have lots of non-dairy milk options: almond, soy, coconut and oat milk. I got an almond milk single shot macchiato to go. It was small strong slightly bitter and delicious. The breakfast menu looked great and I wish I had time to sit and enjoy the meal. I ordered an egg and cheese on croissant to go. The weather is gorgeous right now and they had plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy it. I scarfed down the sandwich on my drive back to work. It was piping hot and huge! Not your BK croissantwich. This was a gourmet AF sandwich. The croissant was buttery and had been grilled so had crispy bits as well... the aioli was great and the eggs was fluffy. The setup is that you order at the front and they bring the food/drinks to your table. Although it was cleanly inside, there were a few flies that wouldn't leave us alone while eating, which resulted in my rating. Ancora on University is becoming my absolute favorite coffee shop. For starters, it's an impeccably arranged space. High and low tables including booths. Perfect for a true brunch with friends or a quiet morning alone. I had a bottomless coffee (on the way out they gave me a fresh cup of Joe in a to-go cup - see photo) and the honey biscuit sandwich. It was incredible! The honey sriracha sauce is more sweet than hot and the 4 pieces of bacon were perfectly cooked. Also, the biscuit. YUM! I took a photo, but had already started to dig in. My husband is really picky... Really, really picky when it comes to coffee. I order chai, lattes, iced coffee and have varying results at different locations. My husband drinks black coffee with sugar so he is judging by the most basic staple when he chooses where to get coffee. Ancora is his FAVORITE in Madison. This is the best place for coffee during the pandemic + they still have the best avocado toast in Madison! The staff wears masks and stay the 6 feet distance. There are cute signs everywhere reminding customers to put their mask back on in between sips and bites of food. They do an excellent job preventing cross contamination. Had brunch at the new Ancora location this morning. The ambiance, food, and coffee was great. The service was sort of slow, but it was very busy so that's to no fault. However, the portion sizes compared to price is quite ridiculous, especially for the Southwest Polenta. The portion was tiny and was $14. It exceeded my expectations of coffee shops and I stopped in on the way to work the other morning and then again today to do some studying. I ordered a white zombie latte and was impressed on how delicious it was; if you're a regular at any other coffee shop in this area, I'd highly recommend popping into Ancora to see what's up, because what they're doing is good. Staff was friendly and attentive and there is ample numbers of tables, but maybe don't come with more than 1 or 2 other people. If you're looking for place to bite and study, there are plenty of outlets and the menu looked delicious, so I'll have to come back and try some of their food. The only reasons for the 4 star review instead of 5: 1) on multiple occasions I've had to wait longer than at other coffee shops to get my drink and/or food order. 2) I also feel their menu is not as straightforward as it could be regarding pricing - only one price is listed per drink, but they do offer different sizes (obviously different prices). 3) They have a limited selection of bakery items. read more
