From the very first interaction, Robert's communication was professional, responsive, and incredibly thoughtful. He took the time to understand our group size, travel plans, and comfort level with snowy and icy driving conditions. Based on that, he recommended the ideal setup: a 15-passenger van paired with a beautiful GMC Yukon. This combination worked perfectly, allowing us to comfortably and safely transport our entire group--and all our gear--between Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and Alyeska Resort in Girdwood. One of the most impressive aspects of our experience was the exceptional value. Not only were the rates very competitive compared to the national rental companies, but the level of personalized service we received was on an entirely different level. Robert and the Alaska 4x4 team provided hands-on guidance, tailored recommendations, and genuine care throughout the process--something you simply don't get with larger, corporate rental brands. Booked our car a month in advance over the phone - they weren't able to answer all our questions, but they were super kind. Pick-up at the airport was super easy and convenient. Had an issue with our rental car during our reservation, but Jane was absolutely incredible. She worked with us over the phone to fix the issue and get us squared away so we were good to go on the next portion of our adventure. Overall, they are a little pricier than other rental car companies, but we found that it was worth it. Highly recommend, would book from again.

It is a $65 a day rental (not sure if it depends on the item being rented), but because they are closed on the weekend we needed to return it on Monday. It was great! it gave us a few days to determine if we were going to actually purchase one, but it also helped up to determine if the problem we are having needs to be done immediately so we appreciated that timeline. I didn't go with my dad to rent it, but he had a very positive experience renting it. They were helpful and knowledgeable and could tell my dad knew what he was doing. They load the item into your car and unload it when you return so that is a plus because I was the one to return the auger and I was concerned I wasn't going to be able to lift it by myself. They were very kind and helpful when I returned the auger. I was a little late returning it by 7 mins and I was worried they would charge me for a day. This place seems honest and helpful, the staff is definitely friendly and the price was perfect! Thank you guys for a positive experience!

I had until 1 p.m. to turn the rental back in. We may have needed it again the next day. Hectic circumstances with death of family member, difficulty getting in and out of the truck (disabled), trying to drive it on snow and ice, etc on top of moving an entire apartment in 6 hours...well it just doesn't help when you get charged a key cut fee of $50.00 when no key was cut and the key I had was returned well before 1:00 p.m. when the rental was due back. No one called to ask. Can't get through to customer service, no voicemail and no working APP. Refusing to refund me. I accepted the fuel fee. The other fees driving a $29.99 rental to $144.00 but the key cut fee is a scam. I can maybe understand the initial charge as a misunderstanding but they didn't cut a replacement key and got the original key back before 1:00 so truck was available for re-rent. Be careful on the website while booking as the additional moving items like dolly and furniture pads are preloaded for selection and its easy to unintentionally reserve those items and be charged with them because you don't receive anything with charges until you pick up the rental not realizing these items are in the back. Also, they didn't tell me I was charged a key fee when I came in to return the key. Rent with caution if you care about getting ripped off. Never renting from Uhaul again.

After waiting 45mins, they said they found a Corolla for us. This car was in worst possible condition. 60k+ miles, cracked windshield (see the pics), filthy seats, worn out tires. We had no choice but to take this car because it difficult to get rental cars at the last moment in Alaska. In the end, we didnt drive the McCarthy road fearing that this car would break down. Beware of this car company.

After realizing this, I gave HC a call to inquire about renting and was surprised and thankful to discover that their rates were much better than the big name companies. The person on the phone was patient and more than willing to answer my questions--I booked immediately. When we got the car it was very clean and in great shape. We had a great vacation and ended up extending our trip and rental another day which was no hassle at all with these guys. Upon return they gave us a shuttle ride to the airport. I cannot recommend this place enough. It's nice to deal with and support a local business and it's even better when they leave an impression like they did with us.

When we arrived he was expecting us, took a pair of keys and went out to get our RV, he then came back and said that it wasn't ready and would look to see if he had another, he didn't. He then told us that we had never asked for an early pickup and that the RV's aren't normally ready until 3PM. We were then told that it would be ready about 9AM so I explained that my car rental was due back at 9AM. He offered to pick us up at the rental place so we drove right over and dropped the car off. After dropping off the car we spent 45 minutes standing in the rain waiting for him, he didn't show. I called to see where he was and he then came right over and said that he hadn't planned to pick us up until the RV was ready and asked where he should take us, but he absolutely refused to take us back to his office so not knowing our way around we had to let him choose a place, he dropped us off downtown. In all we lost 4 hours that day and were made to feel like it was our fault and that we were asking for unusual service. We had many problems with the RV: We wanted to use our Ipod and brought a tape adapter, but it would not work with tapes The floors were very dirty The toilet seat had the top cover missing so we had to be careful that things did not drop into it while driving. Many of the interior lights were burned out The propane heater would not work; I called and left a message, but received no return call. It was the thermostat so I eventually got it working without his help. When I saw that the propane heater didn't work I tried the heater in the air conditioner, it didn't work either The hose for adding water to the RV leaked badly, I had to stop and buy new gaskets for it The TV was a small model that we found on a shelf, it was not HDTV and had no cables to connect it to the antenna or to connect the RV to the cable system at campgrounds. I bought one, but being non-HD the TV couldn't find any stations to watch. Many items had been repaired and there were screws sticking out in many places, it was in shabby condition The mattress was new and comfortable, but it was much too large for the frame and hung off in all directions, it was so large that it was impossible to actually walk into the bedroom Many of the window blinds would not work properly and were missing the rod to adjust them. When we tried to use the shower the bedroom floor flooded so we had to use the facilities in the campgrounds The bathroom vent was missing its top so it could not be closed, because of this it got very cold in there. There was a ladder on the back which was in pieces and missing many screws, it shook badly and was ready to fall off There was a working microwave, but no real oven There was no privacy curtain so people could always see into the living area through the front window; we had to hang sheets to have any privacy The RV ran very well, there were no problems with the engine, transmission, brakes, etc.

The money charged to our credit card was never reimbursed and we are now taking action through American Express to reclaim the loss. Additionally, I spoke with Pete the DAY BEFORE we were to pick up the RV and he not only confirmed our reservation, but told me he had made special arrangements for us to pick it up early. Finally, Pete's claim that Mr. Duffy had secured another RV and that it was unacceptable to us is completely untrue. After being threatened by Mr. Duffy and ordered off the premises (or else he would call the police) my husband and brother-in-law left, and we were never made aware that there was another RV available to us. When planning something as important as a once-in-a-lifetime family vacation, please use a more reputable company. I'd hate to have this happen to someone else.

I was in town from across the country on an RV trip. I needed my RV trailer wheel bearings repacked…read moreand came to this business. HUGE mistake. Avoid Alaska trailer as they can leave you absolutely stranded due to incompetence and unprofessional work, they are lucky I didn't take them to small claims court, very lucky. The job was completed and I made it to the Yukon Territory about 2 weeks later, traveling no more than 65 mph and a wheel bearing burned up. I was in the middle of nowhere, 2hrs from any community. 8 hrs and $900 later I was towed into Whitehorse YT at a shop. 3 days later and $2500 I was back on the road. I tried to get Alaska Trailer to do the right thing and reimburse for the towing, that didn't happen. They did refund for my cost of the one bearing repair but not the towing. If they were a legit, ethical business in Anchorage they would have refunded the towing and their initial fees for doing the crappy, work to begin with. Their work should not be allowed in Alaska and they do not stand behind their work. Get stranded because of them and oh well, not willing to make it right. You have been warned!
