The hotel is in a great location. However, the room next door was extremely loud, and my key didn't work several times. I had to keep going to the front desk until they finally realized it was a mistake when loading the key. To make up for the inconvenience, they allowed a one-hour late checkout.

An easy walk to the beach from the hotel:)

Cute, simple hotel with an indoor pool and a small bar and cafe. Only thing I'd recommend was they put a microwave in the hotel. We packed food that needed to be warmed up, and didn't think to check in to see if they have a microwave in the room.

Inside the main hotel, floor 1, opening directly to the front parking lot facing the beach

EVERYONE from the people I spoke with on the phone, to those at the desk, and those in the restaurants were incredibly friendly and helpful. So much so, that my husband, friend who was with us, and I kept commenting on it to each other. We got an email the day of our reservation saying that pipes had burst in the building we had for our reservation (they have four (I think it's four) buildings that comprise the inn) and they gave us options for other rooms. They upgraded us to a really lovely room. The location is excellent - across the street from the ocean. The furnishings were old (in a good way), heavy, wood pieces that really contributed to the place feeling warm and homey. The beds were superior. The shower pressure was strong. The sharing living room with fire place was so comfortable. The breakfast was top shelf. Homemade coffee cake and apple cake and blueberry muffins. Homemade pancakes one morning. Everything about breakfast was great - and included in the room cost. They have a restaurant and a pub in the main building. We ate at both. The staff were wonderful. The servings were more than ample (the bean and goat cheese salad was enormous, and the mussels appetizer was super generous). I had the ravioli with seafood, which was delicious. My husband loved the mussels. The crab cakes were truly full of crab meat, not filler. Our servers were relaxed, helpful, and friendly - making our dining even more enjoyable. We definitely will return to the Inn, and recommend it to everyone we know. It was a special couple days. Did I mention how friendly the people are there?

We, as long as others, were doing laps around the main lot and the mini lot for the Harbor Hill Inn trying to find a spot. We ended up having to park on the street because there were not enough spots at Harbor Hill. When checking in, we were told there are enough spots for each room, yet the lot for our Inn was completely full. We were also told that if we found a spot, we shouldn't move the car. We wanted to explore the area more, so we did have to leave, it is odd to me that an Inn doesn't have a better parking situation for Inn patrons. We thought it would be fun to go to the pub for apps and a drink before our dinner reservation at the main restaurant. Unfortunately, we were met with an hour long wait for 2 at the pub. I do find it interesting when an Inn doesn't open up reservations or spots for their own guests to dine, rather than locals. When we did go to our dinner reservation, we had a nice time. Our waiter was helpful. When the food came, they brought out a wrong dish. The boy that brought it out told us he wished we said something before he put it on the table because now the dish couldn't be used. We weren't able to tell it wasn't the right dish until it was in front of us.... we then waiting 15 minutes for the right food to come out. Our waiter had them remake my meal as well since it got cold, which was nice. The food was great once we finally had it. They also comped 50% of the wrong dish which was also nice. After dinner we had drinks and headed back to our room to go to bed. A phone call woke us up. It was the front desk; they told us that "Someone came into the lobby furious that our room is being so loud. They said that last night, this morning and this evening we have been ridiculously loud." I told the person on the other line that we have been asleep in bed, and we only checked in this evening. I find it curious that the front desk wouldn't look who was in the room and if we had even been there the day prior. Then, instead of offering an apology, they said "well do you hear any noise?" I said earlier the room next to us was making some noise but nothing like they are describing. They then said, "well which side, right or left?" I said I do not know I need to go back to bed. Pretty unbelievable, and something that hasn't even happened to me at a cheap hotel. I wish I walked away feeling better about our stay, but it is in a beautiful location...

We arrived well after midnight on our check in day due to flight changes, and both Robert and Marsha were awake and waiting, ready to greet their weary late night travelers. After a quick tour, it was off to bed, only to be greeted by a gorgeous (and recently renovated) bedroom and private bath. (So nice, in fact, that family members almost cancelled their reservations at a nearby hotel). We were here for a wedding and became known as the "Party Couple" since we were flirting about, to and from receptions and the ceremony, and Robert and Marsha were more than accommodating at every opportunity. Plus, the house is less than a half mile from downtown (one direction) and Perkins Cove (the other direction). Takes literally minutes to walk to 3+ restaurants for Lobster Rolls (our favorite was Barnacle Billy's but Robert recommends Footbridge). When we left, we had a late flight and had experienced trouble getting Lyft and Uber in the area. Robert personally volunteered to drive us to Portland, ME for our flight so that we didn't miss our travel plans. I cannot rave enough about this gem in Ogunguit. Honestly, I thought about NOT reviewing it in an attempt to keep this gem hidden, but our hosts and stay were just too positive not to share. The gentleman that checked us in was helpful, professional and friendly. Ideal location in the heart of York Beach steps from the sand. Parking is an off street lot across the street, though the York Beach parking enforcement officer (replete with military combat boots and tactical military issue pants) was kind enough to give me a parking citation during the five minutes I unloaded our luggage. There was no meter or sineage where the car was parked. Upon entering the ocean view king suite we were impressed with the size and style of the unit. As we sat down on a weathered pull out couch we noticed a large coffee stain on the coffee table. We also noticed plentiful crumbs and chocolate chips on the couch (and even more crumbs as we opened the pull out section). Worse still it was clear that the pull out couch long surpassed its useful lifespan and had a large 3 inch sharp piece of metal sticking out. King bedroom was a bit cramped but nice bed and pillows. On the nonexistent WiFi alone I would have picked another property if I had known. The given WiFi router worked for 2-3 minutes the entire stay. One of the bedroom lamps did not work. A few of the electrical outlets did not function and others could not have passed any inspection. The washer (of the stackable washer/dryer) did not work. The unit was great size and comfortable for four of us. The location cannot be beat. But the several misses keep this property from a higher score. If they would address the above problems we would return. If not, we will pick another property for our next stay in York.

We inquired about rooms and rates at several places, but nothing felt quite right. As we leisurely walked around, we spotted the Candleshop Inn on a quiet side street. The Inn is quaint and old fashioned, yet beautifully kept and sparklingly clean. The owners are warm and welcoming; they feel like family, yet give you space to rest and relax. Barbara and Michael are gracious hosts who make their guests feel like old friends. The rooms are comfortable, the grounds nicely kept, and the bathrooms spotless, but the Inn's crowning glory is the front porch. The wide farmer's porch sports 5 or 6 rocking chairs, gentle breezes, and a lovely view. It poured the night we were there, and even the rain was gorgeous from the front porch. The Inn also features a back porch and a meditation garden, as well as lovely common areas stocked with books and games. One note, though: the rooms have no televisions. In fact, the only TV in the place is tiny, situated in a little sitting room downstairs. I doubt there's cable, though I didn't check, and only a VHS player. This didn't detract from our visit in any way--I would recommend that you bring a laptop and a subscription to Netflix if you want to watch movies. Breakfast is served at eight by the lovely ladies at the Inn. Cold and hot cereals, muffins and breads, frittatta or pancakes, and bagels with lox, capers, and cream cheese grace the table along with freshly cut seasonal fruit and strong coffee. I highly recommend the Candleshop Inn if you are looking to stay somewhere quiet, beautiful, and peaceful with a personal touch. We loved it so much that we stayed again on Sunday night despite the fact that we both had to work Monday morning. We wanted to savor every moment, so we stayed up late, then rose at 4 am to drive back to Cambridge!

I stayed here about a month ago because I had several appointments and a surgery at York Hospital. I live about 2 hours away and thought it would make it easier to get to everything on time. I checked into the room with my grandfather who was going to drive me back from surgery. The room smelled a little funny, but I didn't think much of it. When we were trying to relax before bed in our respective beds, I started feeling a little itchy. Then something black moved across the white bedsheet, which I initially thought was a tick. Upon looking closer and after googling to determine what it was, I found it was a bedbug. I looked for the markers, the pillow and pillowcase were covered in little black stains which is their feces. The acrid smell I'd noticed earlier is also from them. I grabbed a cup and put about five in the plastic bag from the cup and crushed them, throwing their bodies in the cup and placing it in front of the TV to show the people running the hotel. They moved me to a new room, I showered immediately finding two more in the water and sealed the clothes I was wearing in a laundry bag. I made sure to ask the lady who moved my room to check the room and look in the cup. Had I known what I know now, I would have stayed there to make absolutely sure they saw what I saw. When I passed the room the following day, they had already sealed the room with tape and begun fumigating. Now initially, I wasn't all that upset, accidents happen. But because we slept so terribly, and because the entire night we were both itching and checking ourselves all night for bugs, I made it late for my surgery and had to drive back later that week to get it done. I had told the people at the desk that if I brought any of those bugs back home with me I'd be contacting them to pay for the pest control. Luckily, I managed to treat all my clothes the minute I got home, so I didn't need to call an exterminator, however I still felt as though I got screwed. All in all, between the travel back down and the money I'd spent to treat my clothes, I could've stayed in a nicer hotel for four days. I had another surgery later this week so I called them to ask if they could comp me a night so that I could rest after my surgery, and they told me they didn't find any bugs. I figured, that way I wouldn't have to write this review and I could feel as though I got my moneys worth. I'd have preferred to never be there again, but because I'm disabled and on a budget, I thought I could save a bit of money. The lady at the desk said, "We brought in specialists and a bug sniffing dog, and nobody found anything, so we aren't going to comp the room for you". Now, getting bedbugs I can excuse, but lying to my face, and telling me I'm a liar is a bridge too far. IF they truly didn't find any bugs, then why would they have fumigated not only the room wed stayed in, but the adjoining room as well. And where did the fifteen bites on my arms and chest come from?!? The lady had said the room had been empty for several weeks before I stayed there, which bedbugs can live without blood for several months. Because of this, I can only assume that whoever left the bedbugs there only slept in one bed but laid down in both, leaving bedbugs on both the beds, but only messing up one. The one that he slept in had its bedding likely machine washed at high temperature, and the other probably didn't since it wasn't "used". DO NOT STAY HERE!!! If you do, god forbid you have any problems that necessitate their assistance, because if so, they are completely resistant to taking any responsibility for their lack of basic cleanliness. I've never been gaslit this hard by someone whose job is customer service, and I hope every hotel they stay at riddles them with pests.

My friend loves the supper rolls, so we started there and I got a cup of clam chowder. The portions were big and the chowder was a great flavor and consistency - not too thick or too runny. The drinks we ordered were also really good. I made the mistake of getting a regular espresso martini and my friend got the special one with the horchata. I tasted hers and immediately hated myself because it was so good! I had a really well made rye manhattan afterwards - that guy can mix a great drink! And, the cocktail glasses were so classy! 1 star was removed because I ordered the mussels as my entrée and they came out when I was barely halfway into my soup. That is a big pet peeve of mine as I like to finish my appetizer, sit for a few minutes, and then go to the main course. I don't love it when the main is sitting there getting cold as I'm trying to finish my first course. For that reason, I sent them back. They looked great, so I would really like to go back at some point and try them. The restaurant was really good overall, so I definitely want to come back.
