I really should visit Anchor more often. I'm always impressed when I walk in the door. The air is filled with the lightest fragrance is sweet fish. There's a large assortment and variety of seafood that you won't even see at your local grocery store. I'll also say that the quality here is more consistently good compared to the grocery store products that could be sitting there for 3 or 4 days. After all, when it comes to seafood, quality is the most important factor. When you're trying to get kids and some adults too to enjoy seafood, it has to taste fresh. Prices here could shock you. I suppose it depends on what's in season, market prices, etc. You'll find some products at standard, reasonable prices, but others will seem off the mark. I suggest entering without having a specific product in mind. Look around, see what catches your eye, what's on sale, and you'll walk out with something. On this visit, I bought the last container of shelled lobster meat, some shrimp and a couple softshell crabs. Mmm what a dinner it was! I'll be back again soon. read more

I have been coming to Anchor seafood for years and they easily are one of the best seafood markets around. Parking is tough but there is street parking and a large parking lot across the street. Service here is some of my favorite as everyone is friendly and helpful. Not to mention extremely efficient even during their insane holiday orders. They take both cash and card which is extremely helpful. They have such a wide variety of options, frozen dishes, and fresh ready to plate choices as well. read more

The first thing I noticed when I walked in this place was the cleanliness. It did not smell like fish, which is amazing and indicative of their freshness. The staff was also very nice.. The fish displayed is also very nice and fresh as you can see from the images I posted. The only thing I would say is that the prices for their wild caught is a few dollars more than some of the fish delivery services. Overall pleasant experience and I wouldn't be opposed to coming back. read more

Best "lazy" lobster. Anchor has fresh lobster meet out of the shell. It is always tender, sweet and flavorful. It is my go to spot for lobster. Other favorites include shrimp cocktail and chilean sea bass. Anchor is my go to spot for seafood. Chris is the best! read more

Perfect local seafood mart! I'm not on a first name basis yet, but hopefully soon. I came in for seasonal soft shell crab after a friend recommended to come here. They cleaned and gutted them for me, and they cooked up nicely. They also have local eggs fresh once a week or so, for only 2.99$! I get mine from other places for double that price. I'm excited to try those next, and I'm looking forward to some clams! Staff was helpful and seemed to know the locals well which is a good sign for me. Parking was easy, store was clean, and no weird odors either. Very fresh looking seafood, live lobsters, frozen foods, and some dairy items. Truly fresh fish seems hard to come by these days, that's why I choose Anchor Seafood. The store is clean and the fish is fresh as it gets. I know they go directly to the famous NYC market ( which used to be Fulton Street but moved to Hunts Point). They do what it takes to deliver top shelf fish. In fact, my girlfriend didn't even like Fish until I convinced to try some grey sole from Anchor. Now it's become our Friday night tradition. Great selection with same day fresh fish and the employees know their stuff. I asked the difference from farm raised to wild salmon and the guy cutting a huge salmon in the back tells me wild is usually leaner and farm-raised is fattier. Than he points out the white strokes on farm raised saying that's the fat and like other meat, generally has more flavor than wild. I never knew that before... Great place, absolutely coming back for swordfish next time and the insanely good crab cakes. read more

I ordered 4 lbs of shrimp at 16 bucks per pound and when I got them home I weighed it and it weighed it at 2.12 pounds with containers. I went back and they said you never get the weight you order you get the the amount of shrimp per pound. I would accept that theory if the shrimp that I was given weren't small. Point is I was ripped off for 2 lbs of shrimp. This has never happened to me at any other seafood store. I will never go there again. Ps I did curse the arrogant guy out and to that I take responsibility. read more

Anchor had the freshest biggest snow crabs legs up here as compared to the local supermarkets . I have never experienced rude behavior by the staff..I know what I want , get it pay for it and leave. Now the price per pound is 9.99 I think that is pricy. There are not too many places in Pascack valley for fish and the quality crab legs anchor provides. I bought about 72 dollars worth of legs , that is 9 clusters of large beautiful crab legs. I broiled them , let them thaw . After thawing and cleaning . Melt butter drench them and sprinkle seasoned bread crumbs . Broiled them for 15 minutes . I served them with boiled baby potatoes. The only thing worse than snobbery is ignorance coupled with snobbery, and Anchor Seafood doesn't disappoint. My wife went and ordered "Dover Sole". A shrewish woman behind the counter snapped that there was no such thing as "Dover Sole", unless my wife wanted to pay "a lot". I would think this was an employee having a bad day, except for a younger employee who was profusely apologetic, indicating this wasn't out of the ordinary. No such thing? Try Solea solea and Microstomus pacificus, which are both recognized by American chefs as "Dover Sole". Ignorant, rude and snobbish. Congrats, Anchor Seafood; you gave me a compelling reason to go elsewhere, and I recommend that everyone else do so as well. read more

For all these people that have had bad experiences I am guessing it was because of the attitude of the customer not the attitude of the staff. I am a regular here and have been met with nothing but knowledgeable people and big smiles, not to mention they are willing to go out of their way for a special order in a small quantity (U-10 Scallops). 3 or 4 weeks ago we had a seafood feast at my house... 6 Large filets of Flounder, 2 Filets of Salmon, 4lbs of shrimp cocktail, 3 (8oz) South African Lobster Tails, 2lbs of Diver Scallops and we finished it off with his red clam sauce in linguini.... F*cking Delicious is the only way to describe it! You pay a premium, but like it said in my last post, its worth every penny. DISHONESTY AT IT'S SNEAKIEST! I pre-ordered 3 pounds of Jumbo shrimp for a dinner party. A lot of monies worth! When I went to store to pick my order up, I decided to buy an extra pound of the Jumbos to make sure I had enough. When I got home and opened the pre-ordered shrimp, I was so surprised to see they were noticeably smaller. Unbelievable. It was too late to go back and complain. Besides, the people behind the counter are rude and pushy and intimidating. I am sure they would have insisted that I ordered the wrong size to begin with. Never again. I have been going to Anchor Seafood for over 15 years and they offer the best seafood at a reasonable price. The owner is friendly and accommodating....this past Christmas my shrimp platter wasn't ready when I arrived so he added a pound of crab claws to the order at no charge for the inconvenience. That's great customer service. Great quality on shrimp, lobster, crabs, clams, tuna, swordfish and salmon. The negative reviews must be written by jealousy competitors. We used to go there for the salmon, but not anymore. I thought it was weird how they used to push this farmed salmon on me, even though I prefer the more expensive wild. The guys always say it's "no dyes, no chemicals," and sometimes a guy behind the counter might add "it's organic!" It's a lie. Turns out after some questioning, it's SCOTTISH farmed salmon. Look it up, you'll see that scottish salmon is the lowest quality salmon you can buy. Chilean is good, scottish is bad. It's well-known that scottish farmed salmon is most likely loaded with man-made pesticides. And it certainly isn't "certified organic." On top of the this, the guys here are bullies. They have been known to cut the fish without gloves and smirk at people who ask them to put gloves on before preparing the fish after handling cash and coins at the register. They SMIRK and ROLL THEIR EYES, and STILL don't put on gloves. If you want to frequent a dishonest place run by awful people, by all means shop here. If not, I would get your omegas elsewhere and wait for the local Wegmans and Whole Foods in Closter to open up. The only people who shop here are older seniors who probably have been going there for 15 years, and don't want to change. If you have the energy, go elsewhere. I'm all for supporting small local businesses, but NOT this one. They are awful people. And to echo the words of another Yelp reviewer below, it was the OWNER who was the rudest of all. He leaned over the counter and YELLED at me at how dare I question the quality of his fish, right in front of my three young children. "He's scary," said my five year old when we left. And it looked like the other guys working there were scared of him and were silent through the entire exchange. He bullies them too, probably. Way to go. Way to run a business.
