I got the tomato sandwich plus bacon (so a BLT without the L) and it was pretty good, though I do wish they cut the bread a little thinner so I could pick it up and eat it as a sandwich. As it were, I just used my knife and fork - certainly more civilized. The pizza was also not bad, though I wish there were some more of the toppings - heard it's leagues better than Mystic Pizza. There are a few tables inside but be prepared to wait. When it was peak rush hour, there were two lines inside, one for the bathroom and one to place an order. Even though they were so slammed, the staff couldn't be friendlier. Our waitress in particular came by often to see how we were doing. Parking lot also filled up. We parked in the Mystic train station and then walked over.

Naturally, our post-dinner walk turned into a search for something sweet, and that's when we stumbled upon Sift Bake Shop. Oh, hello there! We opened the door and immediately knew we'd found our dessert destination. The bakery was bright, welcoming and absolutely adorable, with display cases FULL of beautiful baked goods. I started smiling from ear to ear before we'd even gotten close enough to properly inspect everything. And then I saw what was inside those cases. Cookies. Cakes. Pastries. So many beautiful little creations practically begging me to take them home. Suddenly, we had a problem. I wanted everything. After several minutes of me staring lovingly at the desserts and attempting to make what felt like an impossible decision, Adventure Buddy gently reminded me that we were not, in fact, purchasing the entire bakery. RUDE. But admittedly, he had a point. I finally settled on the Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookie ($4.50), featuring two peanut butter cookies with peanut butter frosting sandwiched between them. Adventure Buddy selected the Opera Cake ($9.45), made with espresso-soaked almond sponge cake, chocolate ganache, coffee and hazelnut mousse. We ordered everything to go so we could take our treasures back to the hotel and enjoy a proper sweet-tooth nightcap. And THAT was an excellent decision. First up, my peanut butter sandwich cookie. As someone whose personality is approximately 63.8% peanut butter, I consider myself qualified to evaluate this particular dessert. IT. WAS. FANTASTIC. The cookies were wonderfully soft and chewy, with what seemed like a little oat texture mixed in. The peanut butter frosting was smooth, creamy, rich and perfectly peanut buttery. Everything worked beautifully together, and I was one very happy peanut butter enthusiast. Then I tried Adventure Buddy's Opera Cake. WOWZA! The layers of different textures were incredible! The espresso-soaked almond cake, creamy mousse and rich chocolate ganache came together beautifully. And that chocolate ganache?! To die for! I'm not usually someone who gravitates toward coffee-flavored desserts, but this was absolutely worth stealing a few bites of! What made this discovery even better was learning that Sift is a family-owned, French-focused bakery operated by Pastry Chef Adam Young, with everything made from scratch in-house. They offer everything from artisan breads and breakfast pastries to sweet and savory treats, so clearly we only scratched the surface of what they're creating. For about $14, Adventure Buddy and I enjoyed two fantastic desserts and turned an ordinary evening at our hotel into a delicious little date-night finale. We stumbled upon Sift completely by accident, and I'm SO glad we did! We'll absolutely be back the next time we're adventuring in Mystic because there were approximately 47 other things in those cases that I still need to try.

Full size at most places. I ate it over the course of two days. I ordered it with lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, cucumbers, provolone, Oil and Vinegar, Salt and Pepper, and Mayo. The three meats were pepperoni, Genoa salami and capicola. The bread was good, fresh and up to the job of holding the ingredients. There were about six slices of meats, but they folded them around the inside of the bun (cut on one side) so you were really getting about 12 layers in each bite. And the inside was stuffed with the veggies and other toppings. So stuffed that the toppings fell out as you were taking bites. But that was actually great from my perspective, because you could just pick up the fallen toppings and put them exactly where you were going to bite next. I've been to a lot of highly rated grinder shops in CT. I don't think I've had a better Italian combo. The ingredients were all great. It was a well constructed sandwich. You got bits and pieces of most of the stuff in each bite. Ingredients were in the right proportion. It was salty. Acidic. Juicy. Great contrasting textures. This was a text book Italian Combo Grinder. Now if you live near Mystic, getting a grinder from Pasta Fresca is a no brainer because you can take it home.
