The service was also very good and friendly. I had the smothered chicken sandwich and my son had the cheddar and bacon burger. We both opted for onion rings and had the desserts of chocolate cake with ice cream and the bread and butter pudding fingers. Oh, we also had the garlic bread with cheese. It was all so good. We didn't wait to take pictures of our food. it was just too good to leave sit even for a moment! It was such a great experience, we brought the rest of the family later that evening. Sadly, my son and I didn't eat much the second go around though because we were still stuffed from the amazing lunch! I highly recommend walking over and having a meal and a pint.

Winterstream Farm greeted us enthusiastically, served us in good time with delicious food, despite how busy it was when we turned up around 6pm. The staff were friendly and polite- a completely different experience to the one we had at the place we booked previously. Plus they didn't lie to their customers, which is always a bonus(!) Thank you! For the last minute rescue after we had called several other places who were unable to accommodate us at such short notice! 10/10 ~~~ Original experience: Mum booked a table for a party of 12 around lunchtime for Brimsham Park. She received a confirmation email that it had been booked for 5:30pm. On arrival, our party of 12 was told that they were short staffed and could not serve us food. When the manager was asked for, we were told that he was busy in the kitchen and could not speak with us. On our return home, it was discovered through a Facebook post, that the restaurant had refused service to other customers, citing that they were busy due to a party of 12 arriving. Presuming that party was us, and we didn't receive ANY service, just excuses, it appears they were lying to other customers and blaming us for it. Don't go here- it's no wonder they are short staffed if they treat their staff anything like their customers.

This is a very cosy pub, but another tiny car park - you might have difficulty parking, especially towards Christmas where lots of Christmas parties will be happening. The food is fantastic value for money and the staff are polite and efficient. The staff are keen to please you - whether there are 2 or 22 of you. It's a really nice atmosphere. Although the bar is tiny - it always looks immaculate. They also pay attention to detail too - if you happen to mention that you're booking for a birthday/anniversary/retirementthey seem to remember and all of the staff know what you're celebrating - it's lovely to have the personal touch.

A 5 star AA pub a couple of miles further back had 'no room at the inn' when we called in for sunday lunch without booking. But not such bad luck after all! We drove on and found a very warm welcome, open fire burning away and we very quickly had in front of us beautiful home cooked roast beef dinners with all the trimmings followed by fruit crumble and custard. Our daughter settled on a home made lasagne then Black Forest gateau. All this for a very reasonable price (much less than down the road!). We've marked it as 'favourite' on our sat nav so we can find it again! Well worth a visit!

It's a bit over price for the area, but good all the same. The drinks are crazy prices for this side of town: £4.80 for a pint of ale! We were told that they had a lot of Christmas lunch bookings and so we'd have a wait for food, so we got there early.... And were the first table in there. Within half an hour there were a few largish tables in (4-8 people) but the restaurant was by no means full, in fact not even half full. The drink prices are high for the area, so I chose the cheapest Rose on the menu, which I assumed was the house wine at £5 for a large glass. Soda water was charged at £1 a glass, most places will include this free of charge especially if you are eating. Most of us chose to eat from the set price lunch menu at £11.95 for two or £13.95 for three courses... But this menu only included flatbreads and a small choice of mains dishes. They hadn't had their fish delivery so the fish dishes were unavailable, but they did have fish cakes which is what I chose. When the food finally arrived (after an hour of waiting) it did look reasonably nice, presentation wise, and my family liked their flatbreads but my fish cakes were horrible! They didn't taste much of fish, more like cheese - I honestly would have guessed baked Camembert or something and that's not what I was after at all as I'm not much of a cheese fan! So we did a bit of swapping around and I had some of the duck flatbread which as nice enough. We all chose a pudding, they took another 30 minutes to arrive and weren't warm as they should be... I had treacle tart with ginger cream - didn't taste a bit like ginger! When we got the bill I realised I'd been charged £7 for my wine, so I questioned it and apparently the house wine is not the cheap one, it's a few choices down on the menu and costs more???!! I don't know anywhere else I've been where the house wine is not the first listed and cheapest on the menu??! Very bizarre! There was no goodwill gesture either just a brief and miserable 'sorry' from what I assumed was the manager on the day. All in all it wasn't a pleasant experience, there was a frosty reception from most staff apart from a girl on the bar, who was very nice, a ridiculous wait in a restaurant no one would class as busy at all (who knows how they would cope on a busy Mothers Day!) food wasn't up to scratch, and drinks overpriced. I've been going to the Golden Heart since I was a kid and it used to be one of the best pubs in the area for families in the summer and it was relatively cheap and cheerful back then... Its transformation into a trendy country pub initially gave it a 'quality' status and we would go for special occasions for a nice meal, but since I feel it has gone downhill and as a result you are paying over the odds for nothing special and so I wouldn't recommend it, sadly!
