Don't trust Google to present the services provided by The Copy Shop. Case in point: I needed a…read moredigital photo to renew my passport. I entered the following search terms in Google: "traverse city digital passport photo". Google listed three businesses under the "Places" label, one of which was The Copy Shop. When I drove to the Shop, however, I was told it doesn't provide digital passport photos. Granted, this may not be the Shop's fault. I expected Google to list businesses which satisfied all five "search" words. Google may have been programmed to display those which satisfy even just a few of the words. Nonetheless, the result was a wasted trip. So beware: if you use Google to locate businesses which provide a service, and it lists The Copy Shop, call the Shop to verify it offers the service before driving there.

I paid $38 to be handed an envelope of blank gray rectangles and then told it was my fault…read more I dropped off a disposable camera for development. A week later I picked up my prints, went to my truck, and opened the envelope. Multiple frames were completely blank. Not underexposed, not dark, just featureless gray. No image whatsoever. Several more were so faded they might as well have been. I walked back in immediately. The employee looked at the negatives and, rather than offer any acknowledgment or accommodation, told me I "needed more light" and should have "used a better camera." This response is both condescending and completely beside the point. My complaint was not that some photos turned out poorly... that's the nature of film. My complaint is that they printed and charged me for frames that contained absolutely nothing. Here's the part that's genuinely indefensible: at no point during the development process did anyone contact me to flag that a significant portion of the roll appeared blank. A five-second phone call like "Hey, several of these frames look empty, do you still want prints?" would have been the bare minimum of professional courtesy. They didn't make that call. They printed everything, charged me for everything, and then refused even a PARTIAL refund when I raised the issue. Charging a customer to print blank frames and then talking down to them about it is a remarkable combination of poor service and bad attitude. Do not bring your film here.

What should have been a really smooth transaction became squabbling over like 19 dollars. I'll try…read moreand tell the short version of this story: I asked about a used Yamaha acoustic just to have an extra guitar to leave at my parents house. They had an early 80's entry level Yamaha priced at $350 which felt high, so I left and did some research at home. Sure enough, they go for between $200 and $280 dollars (Yamaha FG-331). Sure, I'll pay an extra $50-$80 to get a guitar I can actually play and check out... but I'm not paying $350 for a $200 guitar. I let them know the research I did and what the guitar generally goes for. And the guy just said, "ummm, ya. uhhhh that's just the price". Finally I had to ask who could decide if there's a give on price. "uhhhh, I mean, I guess the owner could". Instead of him volunteering to call him, I had to ask if he could call him. He did. I asked if they could come down to $320 cash... because I was by this time sick of all the back and forth even though $320 was WAY more than I should have paid for this. The owner on the phone agreed to $320 cash. Wow, 30 dollar discount. Then the guy rings me up for $339 dollars... like what? It's $320 cash. Meaning I hand you $320 which is already way more than this guitar is worth, and you hand me the guitar. I questioned him about it, and it was just like, "no, man... my boss would never go for that, we have to charge sales tax". Well, you could just call him to ask if that's what he meant. Sorry for the long and complainy review. But Traverse is a smaller town, and it's often hard to find something just right. After looking for a week, this guitar seemed to be the perfect fit. But the deal didn't happen over 19 freaking dollars. I was already willing to pay way more than the guitar was worth. I even showed the guy 8 different listings online that I had emailed myself. And the owner agreed to $320 cash. Don't buy anything from these guys without looking up the price. Or don't buy in general. Go on craigslist or marketplace.
