This review pertains to the office experience yesterday, not the abilities of the hygienist or dentist. I am seeking a local dentist in Marin County. Last week I received the most recent of many mailers for Kantor dental group, then called to make an appointment for a cleaning only. I discussed times and specifics for the appointment. I booked for 8 AM Sat. and was told the cleaning was 45 minutes. Yesterday I arrived on time and found no one was at the front desk. Waited for a few minutes. Had to call out and eventually a lady who came out, did not greet me or welcome me and said that the office staff had not arrived! (In our phone call a day before, I had clearly stated to Bridget, the nice office manager ahead of time that I was only booking the cleaning, -- no exam and that I was willing to pay with a check to receive they offered cleaning discount for $177.). On the phone she tried to upsell me a plan that I was not interested in and declined. After being directed to the room, I waited for hygienist who didn't come. Then a nice dentist Dr. Gutierrez came out and said he was there to examine me, and I said I had clearly stated no exam today I can only afford the cleaning. I then asked how much the exam! I reiterated that I was not yet booking an exam. The dentist said he didn't know how much it was went away and came back and said it would be $89 for 15 minutes. He asked if I had any recent x-rays and I said I do but will obtain them before booking. an exam l. I then waited for the hygienist who still didn't come. It is now over 30 minutes after my appointment. I got up and went to the front desk and inform the receptionist that it was too late to continue to wait for a hygienist when my appointment was at 8 AM, which was intentionally scheduled due to other obligations. I also asked her why the dentist came in when I had already discussed that I was only there for the cleaning. She looked in her computer at notes and said that the exam would be free. I said I wasn't informed of that but now it's 8:40 and I'm going to have to leave. The hygienist was busy working with another patient so apparently they double booked my appointment time. The sad thing about this whole thing was I was really looking for to try out a new local dentist. But the disorganization and bad first impression maybe question whether I should go back to this practice.

He does a procedure many other periodontists steer clear of, (saying it's not possible) called the 'pinhole procedure,' which, instead of flapping the gums back, you make a small tunnel underneath the gum line of the teeth you are grafting, and feed the palatal gum through. It's relatively non-invasive, and the results are spectacular! One day out, I have big fat, beautiful gums, which I know will remodel in the next six months, but I couldn't be happier. I explained this to her, but Angelina started cleaning my teeth anyway and spraying water all over my face. At one point, she threw a napkin at me and said she didn't have time to be tidy because I was so late. She was being so aggressive and scary (giving Steve Martin in Little shop of Horrors vibes) that I finally decided it was time to leave. I asked her to stop and she said, "ok, bye, sir" (wtf - I'm a woman and not particularly masculine). It took me a year to decide to give them another chance. This time, a few weeks ago, I got a hygienist named Karen (of course). While she was poking around in my mouth, I winced slightly when she poked the gums behind my two front teeth. She asked if I was ok. I told her I was fine, but that I felt the sharp tool on my gums. Instead of saying, "oops, sorry!" or something innocuous, she instantly got defensive, saying she didn't touch my gums. Not the response you want from the person holding the sharp tools! She asked if I wanted her to numb my gums and I said, "no thanks". Instead of just continuing on with her work, she said, "Um, ok, because you seem a little ...". She didn't finish the sentence, but it was just odd - she was either projecting or trying to provoke a response. As she continued to be rude, I decided it wasn't worth my time to have someone who hates their job taking out their frustrations on my teeth and gums. I got up and left before it could get worse. I had a great dentist in the town where I used to live and there are many other dental practices in the same building as Evosmile. On my way out, I made an appointment with one of them.

He had a calm and caring demeanor to start which was nice. His assistant- Katie was knowledgeable and friendly as well. Now that I have received his work on my teeth, I am very satisfied. My front tooth needed repair and now looks and feels better than ever and my new crown fits perfectly. It's nice to find a specialist who takes their job seriously - presenting fine work and has a nice personality to match. Very pleased with this entire office.
