Wow, what a great dental experience, from the entrance to the exit. This is a lot to say from a 74 year young "dental chicken", who needed a new dentist. I decided to give Dr. A. Cluff a try after receiving a flyer in the mail. I am so happy I did. The great experience started in the front with really friendly, professional staff. This continued with the back office staff. I was made comfortable and felt much less stress than my normal teeth clenching self. I met initially with Dr. Ana Cluff, who took her time to discuss her exam findings and treatment plan, taking into consideration my cares. Her manner was warm, friendly and very professional. My second visit was for a crown. This was, no kidding, my BEST crown experience. No pain and made to feel so comfortable and much less chair time than previous crowns. I've already given a 5 star review from my very first visit but I wanted to provide an additional review based on my most recent visit..... my daughter and I went in for our 6 month check-up and once again it was an overall great experience! I had my teeth cleaned by the hygienist, Heather who has such a gentle hand for cleaning teeth! I wasn't in pain and didn't feel any slight discomfort during my cleaning. She was very helpful and provided me with some great tips for cleaning around an existing crown I have. Thanks so much Heather! My daughter was worked on by Vero in the office and had no complaints what-so-ever! She even had two of her baby teeth extracted and it couldn't have gone easier - Vero & Dr. Cluff are the best and are a very great team! Dorian also helped explain the doctor's recommended treatment plans and course of care for both my daughter and I in great detail... I Have Always Depended on Using Dentists in the Past That Were Listed as "In Network" On Any Prior Insurance Plans I had. I've Become Quite Active With Walking In West Chula Vista Area and Therefore Decided the Dentist Should Be One I Could Walk To. Anything Like Dentist or Doctor Appointments Certainly GO BETTER With a Pre-Walk! Most of Us Don't "Try Out" A Dental Office First----This Means Going In And Feeling Out the Place, The Waiting Room, Receptionist and the Procedure Room. Intimidation is a Key Factor as To Why I Never Thought to Do This! Having Had Several Bad Experiences with Dentists I saw only a Few Times I Neglected Badly Needed Care for Many Years. Financial Issues are also Intimidating as Most CAN'T Afford the Costs for the Treatments that Run into Thousands of Dollars. I Saved Up Towards this for Years And Now With COVID Issues I prolonged until Recently. I visited a Total of 5 Dentists in the past couple Months. A BIG WIN Was Dr Cluff did not "refer me to anyone" she sat down and discussed Everything Taking , herself taking the time to Go over the reduced prices she could give me & explaining In a Way I could Comprehend. It was a WIN WIN for me! Not only Did I Feel More Comfortable with her than ANY Other Dentist I've Seen She Was Able to DO Exactly what I needed in MY TIME FRAME! I did not have to wait when I went in for Treatment and did not have to share her with other patients.. She knew I was planning a Trip in May and assured me everything could be handled in time for me to take that trip in comfort. Extracting Teeth Is Not A Procedure Anyone can Say Is Easy or Not Painful--- I Tried to Prepare Myself &I was Able to Ask all of my major questions before my mouth was too sore to do so. I stopped her a Couple Times When I Needed More Numbing or to Find Out How Much Longer that Particular Step would Take----She Took Care of these Issues and allowed me to "zen back to my headphones" knowing what time frame i had to endure! After a Week when I went back I had my list of questions handy and she patiently answered each one even giving me advice for things I could eat etc; There is a Reason in Life for everything and I AM SO Glad I did my Shopping around before I settled! Best dental office!! The staff are professional and skilled but they are also warm and personable. Dr. Cluff is kind, smart and knows how to make her patients feel comfortable. Dorian makes it easy to schedule appointments and always makes sure you get reminders. Heather is super knowledgeable and makes routine cleanings painless. I have never been to a dental office with such great staff all-around! As far as dental work, Dr. Cluff is my dream come true! Not only is she skilled in her craft but she is great at keeping the patient informed. She's constantly telling you what she finds, what you can do about it and what she's going to do next. Other dentists have cut and pinched me but Dr. Cluff has done neither in the 2+ years I have been her patient. She even fixed a crown that two other dentists had messed up; it's been two years and no problems. I went in for a normal cleaning and was quoted over $1300 for a deep cleaning. After assessing my overall first and last visit I thought it was quite interesting that they give you a questionnaire that asks what your budget is at the beginning of that appointment. I noted that it was flexible, but there's no way I would be paying $1300 for a deep cleaning. Mind you, I have kept up with all my dental needs. When I called to cancel my second appointment the receptionist sounded irritated and hung up on me. It just solidified my opinion on this business being completely money driven and not customer focused. read more

For someone that hasn't been to the dentist in many years finding a dentist is scary. Honestly, it seems they all want a yelp review more than they want your business. Well, after seeing the building and some interaction I decided to use this dentist. They came up with a list of treatments spanning six months with a price, I agreed to said price and then proceeded to skimp, save, borrow and steal what I had to to get the $4,011.00 not covered insurance. I had savings, my friend put in a grand and with my paycheck I made it! Asking on two separate occasions I was told "Yup. Your good. Nothing more to pay" TWICE! Cut to yesterday when I arrived for that final appointment after six months and was asked for and additional $545!!??!! Even after I went home and got my paperwork to prove it they still gave me an attitude. Finally someone figured out what happened, apparently the cost increased for the procedure and insurance didn't cover their portion. Seems to me you should have charged the insurance company before because we had an agreement and price increases shouldn't affect me. Also, if insurance didn't pay "their part" wouldn't that mean that the part that I paid for that procedure is due back to me? Would stand to reason. Well, I'm moving to Pennsylvania today do I won't see that or this dentist again... Thank God! One valuable lesson I've learned in all this is... If you have a fear of the dentist, get your dental needs taken care of here!! I've had a lifelong fear of dentists and get full blown panic attacks whenever I need to go (bad past experiences with Dentists in NYC) but I needed to have a very painful upper molar extracted. Once I was numb and ready, Dr. D got started, but the anxiety set in soon after; I was shaking and fully freaking out, but Dr. D and her assistant were so incredibly patient and understanding. She stood right by my side, calmly explaining how tears work to get my mind off my fears, then she brought up my mask (tv show 'friends' themed) and quoted the theme song I knew I was in good hands. Once I was calm, she got right to work and got the molar out in less than a minute, with Zero pain! :D I have NEVER had a dentist this compassionate and professional. Went here last week for a cracked tooth and pain. They were able to check out what was happening, make a quick plan, and even offered to take care of it the next day. I ended up going back in a week for an extraction, graft, and fillings. Dr D was super quick (maybe 45 minutes total), so comforting, and awesome! I have been a patient of Dr. Cluff's for over seven years and while I normally do not write review wether negative or positive, I feel in these difficult times I needed to. I have never felt like just a "patient" but a person that the whole office cares about. If one is open, they get to know you, show true concern and empathy not just for the dental visit but your life's ups and downs. Today Dr. D, as she is referred to by the office, did a root canal and it was not the easiest one by any means. She is a skilled and caring dentist, she took a couple of breaks to allow me to rest. She was extremely thorough making sure the canals were void of any nerves or debris from the procedure before filling and sealing the tooth. I have recommended this to office to friends and family. I've spent a lot of money here out of pocket as well as insurance. Dr D put 2 crowns in one I had to file down myself I had one long fang. The second crown hurt so bad I had to go to another dentist to have them fix the crown. just after a few months the crown was loose I'd put my partial in and it's so tight it hurts. I used to go to Santee Smiles but the place is very corporate. People are nice but you could tell that even they hated the corporate-ness of it all. So I looked for another dentist and last year I found Dr. Cluff's office. I tried them out with a little intro exam deal that they had going which was great. Right away I could tell that this little Family dentistry place was seriously like a family. I like them a lot. I switched my insurance over so that I could work with this dentistry and I'm so glad I did. I had so much Dentist anxiety leading up to my first appointment with Dr. Cluff's office, and the entire staff could not have been more comforting and encouraging. I can't recommend them enough to anyone who struggles with anxiety over going to the Dentist. I had to get a tooth extracted and it was my first time ever having the procedure done. First, let me start by saying I have been a patient of Dr. Cluff for nearly 20 years, since she took over the practice from the previous Dr.. I hold Dr. Ana Cluff and her hygienist, Heather, to vey high levels. Hence my 2 stars! My problem with this office is the front office. I was recently there for a cleaning and was told that I had a problem with a tooth that would require major work. An x-ray was taken to confirm our suspicions. Prior to leaving the office, I was told I would be receiving a proposal for the needed procedure. That afternoon I received the estimate of new services by email. This is where the my concerns begin. After reviewing the estimate I had concerns about all the procedures listed and replied, by email, asking for them to review my concerns and provide a new proposal. I received no follow up that day or late into the next afternoon. I called the office and spoke with one there. I was told that they didn't have time to read replied to emails. She said that she would have Amy call me. Two days passed and no call. I called the next morning, a Friday, and had to leave a voice mail asking that Amy called me. No calls! Because of my dental health, I also see a periodontist on a alternating timeframe with Dr. Cluff. They have been sharing information and x-ray images for 20 years or more. I made an appointment with the other Dr. to get their opinion of the condition of the tooth and the necessary work. When the office manager called Dr. Cluff's office to request the latest image, she was told that they could not provide the image because I had not signed a release for them to do so. This trading of images has been going back a forth for 20 years. No one has every requested me to sign a release!! It now was necessary for me to pay for a second x-ray a week later because of their lack of cooperation. It took 4 days (weekend included) to have my voice mail returned. I was told by Amy that she would have the estimate redone and forwarded to me. I has now been more than a week since the phone call, and guess what. No new estimate at this time! Dr. Cluff, Heather, and the remaining professional staff do not warrant the inefficiency of this front office. read more
