I've been coming to this office for a few years now, and while things used to run smoothly, while the DRS & DAS ARE AMAZING the recent experience with the front desk people has been extremely frustrating. Every time I try calling, I'm placed on hold for a ridiculous amount of time -- it feels like no one actually wants to help. The previous front desk staff member was responsive, communicative, and on top of everything. Since she left, the new staff has been disorganized and honestly, just incompetent. I've had to act as the middleman between the office and my insurance because they kept making careless mistakes -- like forgetting to put dates on my x-rays, which led to repeated claim denials. It's been exhausting and completely unprofessional. I expected better after being a loyal patient for years. I finally got fed up and went to a different dental office. They took care of everything right away -- no hassle, no back-and-forth. They're already working on my treatment plan, and the whole process has been smooth and professional. read more

I've continued to just have all of my dental work done here because I like the way they treat me and it's closest to my house. My original dentist kept trying to upsell me and referred me out to another dentist for (4) complicated wisdom teeth removal with a hell on earth painful recovery period. I have never been one to be afraid of the dentist but I was after that experience so I wanted to switch. I originally found Santee Dental Group via Reddit. Everyone raved about this place. I first went here due to a dental emergency and they really helped me out. They provided me with antibiotics and pain medication until authorizations were approved by my insurance for treatment. Once they were, I had a root canal and crown placed. I had to get a second one done on the opposite side of my mouth and decided to have them do that one too just because of how good they were with the first one. I also had gotten some bondings and a third crown placed on some painful teeth in the front that were cracked due to excessive chewing. They were patient with all adjustments needed to be made. The only thing that could be improved on is for the dentists to explain to us what's being done each step of the way cause otherwise, we're left in the dark and have no idea what's going on. The dental assistants do a good job with explaining what they're doing when they're working on you however. One downside is, if you ever need major surgery here, the surgeon only comes one time out of the month, BUT his work is excellent and I've never been in pain with any work he's done on me so far! In regards to the front desk staff, I'm glad that the old Marissa is gone. She had gotten a slight attitude with me over the phone about an inquiry I had. I was happy to see Kristine hired on and another Marisa in office. They are so sweet and honest and on it with appts. The office and patient rooms are also very clean and sterile. I've never had to wait long to be seen unless they were rubbing a tad bit late. I love this place so much that I've recommended family and friends to come here. I came in recently for 4 wisdom teeth extractions and a bone graft. I was extremely nervous but staff reassured me that they understood how I was feeling and that I was in good hands. Front desk ladies were sweet and answered any questions I had. Check in and check out was speedy. Only downside was waiting a long time before I was seen but I'm sure they were busy with other patients and prepping all the equipment needed for the procedure. I was just thirsty since I couldn't drink liquids for 8 hours prior to procedure. Other than that I was in and out and my meds were ready before I was out. Good experience! read more

I paid $400 for teeth whitening and after two attempts, my teeth are still yellow. I did get one change, however. There's a coating over my teeth that won't brush off no matter how much I try. I guess that was from the whitening attempts. read more

This office truly goes above and beyond. From the moment you walk in, the front desk staff are warm, welcoming, and incredibly organized. They make scheduling and insurance questions so easy, which is rare these days. Dr. Hanna has such a calming presence he takes the time to explain every detail in a way that's clear and reassuring. My mom had a complex oral surgery and also implants with Dr. MacDowell and he was fantastic. Even his team is amazing. Not only was he incredibly skilled and thorough, but his bedside manner was exceptional compassionate, and very attentive to her concerns. He even followed up personally after the procedure to check on her recovery, which meant so much to us. The entire team, from hygienists to assistants, works seamlessly together, and you can tell they take pride in what they do. The office is spotless, modern, and thoughtfully designed to make patients feel at ease. We always leave feeling taken care of, respected, and confident in the care we received. I was so happy that I was finally able to find a dentist who would take my daughter's insurance. We were able to get a preliminary appointment with an exam and x-rays. But I held my breath until she had actually been seen by the dentist. The doctor and his staff were great. My daughter felt comfortable with them and was happy with their care. Hello Santee. My wife and I are in the process of finding a good dentist and dentist office. We've lived here in Santee for more than thirty plus years and have had two dentists during that time. The first had closed and the other had passed away. So now we're on the hunt for hopefully our last dentist since we're getting older. Today we walked in this office and sat down in hopes to get the process going . I noticed a couple of patients and their families waiting to be seen. I walked to the counter and grabbed a card. After fifteen minutes of waiting we decided to leave and call back to schedule an appointment someday soon or not. Maybe the receptionist was in the restroom or tending to something important. I was planning on giving them the lowest rating. However, I believe that wouldn't be fair. This way I can give them the best rating possible after getting treated. Let's see how it goes. read more

If I can give this place ZERO starts I would . My daughter had productive done they removed 4 wisdows teeth in 30 mins god knows what the heck they did to her. As in her previous app they mention that here wisdom teeth were tooo deep and that they were going to have some issues to take them out. As I spoke to her she told me she informed the doctor about her fobias to needles he's answer was "what you want me to do about it" process to turn around and show her some needles he had stack up . 2nd we had our appointment @10am time past and I ask why we were still sitting on the waiting room for 30mins with no one communicating if they were behind on time or needed some room. Mean while the ladies in the front were having a full blast conversation pretty loundly hearing other guy coursing out and they were just laughing about it. I have been a patient at Santee Dental for several years since relocating to Lakeside from Beach. The doctors are professional and competent. However, there is a new receptionist named Marissa who appears to be more focused on her paycheck than on the patients. She might be working on commission. She overbooks appointments for a single doctor who only performs major surgeries once a month. Additionally, prioritizes with higher-paying insurance and reschedules other patients for a later date. I was in the process of getting a dental crown and been waiting for nearly two months to complete the procedure. Despite receiving multiple confirmations through email and text weeks and days prior, Marissa informed me the day before my appointment that the doctor would see me due to a lack of cancellations. This was despite being on calendar for two months and my inability eat without experiencing pain. Had I known this earlier, I would have scheduled an appointment with another dentist. read more

I had my wisdom tooth surgery here and I do not want anyone to go through what I went through. Day of surgery, there was some back up and that is fine because in the medical field you never really know what can happen. The issue was there was little to no update on exactly why and no one was checking in. I was sitting in the back on an IV for an hour after my scheduled surgery time. I only knew what was happening because I was in the little room next to the current patient the oral surgeon was working on and I could hear everything. I did like the way they sedated because you don't feel anything at all. Waking up was not fun. They just put you in your designated drivers car and give absolutely no update to the driver on what happened, if there was any issues with the wisdom tooth extraction, or what to do in case of an emergency. They do not send you home with ice packs. They give you a couple pieces of gauze and a syringe to use later for irrigation. They also give you some info on basic healing but it would've been extremely helpful if someone was to update your driver on exactly what happened during the surgery. Even if it was just a couple comments or summary. Reason being is because my right side was double the size of my left side. Obviously there was something going on with right side that caused some trauma either to tissue or otherwise. Two weeks later the swelling subsided with my right side still taking longer than my left to heal. My left side was near normal on the second week but my right side was still a little swollen. I thought that was normal and maybe one side just had some more tissue trauma or otherwise. My bottom lip (on the right side) was still numb. Couldn't feel much when I would touch it. Third week. My right side's swelling came back. The lump that was present after surgery on my right side had come back for some reason. It was slightly painful to swallow and it felt like there was a ball right under my jaw. The lump was there right when I got out of surgery. I came to after the anesthesia wore off and noticed it. I have pictures of it as well. And now three weeks later it is back. First thing that came to mind was to contact the office because this lump was a direct result of the wisdom tooth extraction. Not an anomaly that I was trying to make an issue after the fact. It was for sure because of the wisdom tooth surgery because it was present directly after surgery and took a while to subside. Meaning that I thought it was normal to have one side healing a little slower because again, they never discussed what happened after the surgery. Anyway, I called the office and asked what I should do and they did not really have an answer. They said that I should call my primary care doctor. I did not expect that because i would like to believe they would know what to do in regards to inflammation after wisdom tooth surgery. There was no recommendation for what to do or even trying to ask the dentist what to advise a patient. The only response was that they can't do anything for me and that I should call my primary care doctor. I also got asked why I didn't immediately call when I noticed a lump but my entire face was triple the size. You would think it's completely normal to have a lump after getting wisdom tooth surgery. It also almost went away so it was not a concern of mine until it came back. I was just disappointed on how this entire process was handled. They made it seem like the lump on the side of my face was not about the wisdom tooth surgery like it was regarding something completely different. It's the same lump that was present right after surgery and same exact area there would be nothing else it would be. It would've been extremely helpful if there would've been any type of help or recommendation regarding the pain that I was going through instead of telling me to call my primary care doctor. Dr Hanna is nice, Natasha at the front is friendly...but: This is the dirtiest dentist office I have ever seen. Anywhere/Everywhere you look, the walls need to be washed and painted.The baseboards are actually filthy. Hand prints on walls, as though they don't care. The receptionists chairs are beyond tattered. I was embarrassed for them. Seriously, office staff: vacuum the carpet in the exam rooms! I'm talking dirt, on the carpet. Chipped paint on the cupboards, and the dry wall plaster is falling off in the xray area. They have a nice team there- but hire a cleaning service. Unacceptable. read more

Lots of issues here. The owner said I needed a root canal. He said the former owner comes in occasionally just to do those. I set that up only to be met with a crude man who insulted me and then told me a root canal wasn't necessary. I then purchased a new crown to be placed on that tooth. But the pain persisted. Finally, I went back a few times to tell them it's still hurting- months later. They said they can no longer help me with that tooth. Just- what?! Yeah- I'm sure insurance won't pay for two crowns- huh- so just bypass fixing your mistakes- make it someone else's problem now. I found a new dentist, and they can't even get them to send over my records. I had asked for them when I was in the office long ago, but was told it's better to have them sent directly to the next dentist. The new dentist claims they've asked more than once. They overdosed my sister and she came out of the chair like a noodle, she was freaking out, hysterically crying, absolutely in horrible condition. They gave her Ketamine l!!!! DO NOT GO HERE! When we told the nurse we were worried about her and why is she incoherent she told the Doctor and the Doctor said "she's just an over-emotional teenage, her Boyfriend probably broke up with her"!! I am not one to write reviews so this truly shows how much I enjoyed my experience and how highly I recommend the Santee Dental Group! I just had my teeth cleaned and whitened by Dr. Hanna and was very pleased with the entire experience. The clinic is equipped with high-end technology for scanning and x-rays that I have not seen at previous dental offices. His staff are extremely friendly and made the experience even more pleasant! Dr. Hanna was prompt to see me in the chair and helped walk me through some of my concerns about my teeth. I was able to get my teeth whitening done right there in the in the chair and am thrilled by the results! After seeing how well my teeth felt and looked, I expressed my interest in Invisalign treatment since I had been contemplating it for years but putting it off. Dr. Hanna was able to get me in to see his orthodontist a couple of days later and decided to start my Invisalign journey. I am so glad I have found a dentist and clinic that I feel very comfortable with and truly feel that Dr. Hanna took the time to examine my teeth thoroughly, discussed my concerns and goals in detail and helped me make the best decisions for my long term goals. I called to inquire about a new client appointment and the receptionist, Natasha, was very friendly and helpful! I had my appointment yesterday and I was blown away. Natasha was just as friendly in person as she was over the phone! She was also ready for any insurance question that I had. Shirely was my hygienist and she was just as amazing. She was so thorough, kind, and knowledgeable. If I could give her more than 5 stars I would. Likewise, Dr. Hanna was equally as nice and knowledgeable. I have never left a yelp review but unfortunately, I did not have a good experience here and feel very disappointed. It has been since July 2022 since I started experiencing pain in a tooth that would persist every time I would eat, requiring me to chew very carefully and eat only on the non-affected side. After researching local Medi-Cal dentists, I was intrigued by the quality of care other customers received here, and Dr. Hanna seemed promising. During the initial cleaning, they did gum measurements (I wish they explained what they were doing first) and the hygienist was very rough with my wisdom teeth pockets, stabbing in her tool deep enough to cause a pool of blood to rush out. As she explained what she was seeing, she continued to push her tool in and did not give me the chance until after to explain that I have wisdom teeth pockets which were already evaluated by my surgeon and are considered normal since they were impacted teeth. She then understood why the pockets were there and agreed that it was normal and shouldn't affect anything. After that unpleasant experience, the regular teeth cleaning wasn't bad. I was told I had a few cavities, and that I will have them filled and will be seeing an endodontist to evaluate further the pain in my next appointment. Returning to the next appointment, somehow there was a misunderstanding that I would not be having the cavities filled, but only would be seeing the endodontist that day. I felt the communication was not clear here, but I was still hopeful that the pain would be resolved or that they would find something. I explained to the endodontist about my pain, she did a few assessments, and I asked her what she was looking for or if she was finding anything. As I was talking, she abruptly told me to not ask questions, and that she knew what she was looking for and knows what she is doing. I only wanted an explanation of what was going on and did not feel I was being demanding by asking her. That interaction shut me down and didn't make me feel safe. She also said that she couldn't find anything and to come back to get looked at when I see a noticeable crack and when I know which exact tooth hurts. She briefly mentioned that maybe the fillings for the cavities in my next appointment would resolve the pain. Somehow, with the remaining patience I had, I stayed and went back to get the fillings done over two separate appointments. During the last filling, I was pleased to finally see that Dr. Hanna would be working on me, and felt some relief. He numbed my gums for the procedure and had me wait for about 15 minutes or longer before the cavities were drilled. He became busy working on other people and I had a mouthful of sour-tasting saliva that I had to spit into my bib. Another lady came in to check on me and I asked her if I could get a new bib, which she politely gave me. That lady ended up doing my filling which took her multiple trials to get it "right" so it wasn't too tight next to my other tooth and that I could floss without it getting stuck. She was very careful and I could tell she was trying hard to make it work, so I stayed patient and felt empathy for her since it seemed like a hard thing to do. At one point when correcting the filling, she grinded off a generous amount of my tooth so the floss would go through, and it sure did- I didn't feel any resistance with the floss or that there was even another tooth next to my other one. It was just gummy and my teeth were far apart from each other. She eventually made it to where I could floss and I was satisfied with that. It has been about 4 weeks after my fillings, and I still have sensitivity and now even more pain. I decided to go to a different dentist to get things checked out. They found that the tooth the lady filled cracked, the top fillings were not done correctly and my cavity was still showing. I don't know if I just have bad luck with dentists or if they need additional training here. The employees here also seem unhappy and very rushed. Wish I could've left a better review. read more
