Stayed in October 2016
Immaculately clean bed and breakfast nestled in the quaint seaside setting of Bowmore on the Isle of Islay. The rooms tend to be on the smaller side but the bathrooms are new and spotless & the water pressure is strong and stays hot. After a long day of sipping drams of whisky and shoveling fresh seafood down your pie hole, you be glad to discover that An Cuan has the most comfortable bed you'll encounter in all of Scotland.
Pros:
- Breakfast. WOW. Best breakfast I had on my entire trip. Seriously. Perfectly cooked bacon.
- Super friendly and accommodating staff
- Ultra-comfortable beds
- CLEAN bathrooms and rooms
- Very short walk to Bowmore distillery, the round church, 5 or 6 restaurants, a Co-op, several shops and a filling station.
- The table in the entry way is full of maps and pamphlets featuring things to do on Islay plus the staff is quick to help you out if need be
Cons:
- Wifi is spotty at best but may very well be a common island occurrence
- The rooms are small but it sort of adds to the cozy atmosphere
- There are a couple dogs on-site. They're kept away from guests but you may hear an occasional bark. The staff is quick to shut that nonsense down though - to their credit
Overall, this is an awesome B&B and I would highly recommend it. If I'm lucky enough to visit Islay again, this would be the only place I'd want to stay. The setting and staff are exactly what you want to encounter on a trip to Islay and the home cooked breakfast is a thing of beauty. read more
