The buns are standard. I liked the addition of sundried tomatoes underneath the burger. The accompanying salad and chips were fine as well. The chips are served with a rather bland vegan paprika mayo. Service is fine, friendly enough, and quick. The place itself has a beautiful view of the water. All in all, mediocre bar food but a pleasant spot and the vegan options are welcomed in a place where not many are available.

I had a lunch and a couple of dinners in the dining room. This dining room, by the way, has a fantastic view for you to enjoy while you sit back and relax over your meal. The service was fantastic. It was just attentive enough without being intrusive and it was quick. Ah but how's the food you ask? Well, let me tell you. The food was delicious. I had steak and ale pie, fish & chips and salmon here and every meal was delicious. They also have a bar here which is (not surprisingly) very well stocked with whiskys. With this, you'll also have a few of the local Islay Ales on tap (cask conditioned) as well as some of the bigger beer names you'd expect to see in Scotland. Regardless of whether or not you stay here, you should definitely treat yourself and have a meal. I don't think you'll regret it!

Any positive reviews of this place have to be falsified or are from before the property was repurchased. AVOID IF YOU VALUE YOUR MONEY. We booked 3 rooms at the Islay House in October 2025. It was an expensive booking, which is to be expected given there are very few accommodations in Bridgend and on Islay. Before we checked in, there was a large storm that unfortunately interrupted shipping of gas (necessary for heating) to Islay, which I understand is completely out of their control. However, this resulted in us having NO HEAT and NO HOT WATER for the duration of our stay. Normally, I would write this off and shrug, because it happens. Why the one star review? Because the staff INTENTIONALLY did not disclose to us that there was no hot water at check in, and that we would not have hot water or heat for the duration of our stay. Again, TERRIBLE customer service, but maybe not even worth a review. We were REPEATEDLY assured by staff that we would get a partial refund. REPEATEDLY. We made the reservation through Booking.com so they said we had to file the request through Booking. I asked the staff REPEATEDLY to put this in writing (to ensure an agreement regarding a refund), which they assured me they would do. I had a really nasty feeling that they would not do it but eventually we had to leave for the ferry so we hoped against hope they would do the right thing. We filed the complaint with Booking 10 days ago, and just received word that "we could not come to an agreement with the property regarding a refund", so we are getting nothing back. Absolutely disgraceful and completely disrespectful. I wish I could leave a positive review because there were positives of this property, however such blatant and disgusting SCAMS deserve nothing more than 1 star. Book at your own risk. Will update review if anything changes.

Glenegedale House is such a cozy, inviting house, exceptionally well-appointed throughout, including the wonderful bedrooms that inspired us with a real sense of tranquility. Glenegedale is also surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of Islay. Graham and Emma are excellent chefs and each meal was a culinary masterpiece...incorporating fresh-caught seafood, other locally-produced foods, and Islay's amber elixirs into an amazing experience. From Graham's special Islay porridge, to the seafood platter that included scallops someone on Islay dove for that day...Graham and Emma make each guest feel extra special. We will never forget the presentation and the deliciousness of each meal. Their knowledge of Islay and their deep relationships across the island, also added to our visits to historic sites, distilleries, and craft shops. We amended some of our itinerary, based on their insights and we're so glad we did. They've given us a much better appreciation for the island and the people of Islay. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and sweet touches all around to give a sense of home. The coffee machine was excellent and there was a atray of goodies on the desk, sweetners, cookies, teas, cups, milk packets and probably more that I can't think of. We felt quite spoiled. Our view was lovely as well. And our bathroom had wonderful space, and a nice shower with good pressure. We visited the bar several times, and always got very good service and good pours. The restaurant was very good as well. We had dinner twice and breakfast twice. All of our meals were delightful. You get up in the morning, get pampered with a big Scottish breakfast. I liked to take a walk around the driveway afterwards and I saw deer a few times. The pub is downstairs, but around the corner, so inn guests have a little space from the comings and goings. Speaking of the pub, they have 400 whiskeys on their list, and a number of flights. It's also nice to go curl up on the couch next to the wood stove on a cool evening with a good book in the hotel living room. There's a dog and a cat in residence who are pretty sure that they run the place who are very good company. Dinners are large portions, I was more comfortable with the appetizers, especially the Kintyre smoked mussels. What really touched my heart was I'm gluten free, and they went out of their way to get gluten free bread and crumpets for me. I did not expect it. That's the first time I've gotten to have bread before a meal outside my home. Usually, I sit there while I watch everyone else eat theirs. I'll never forget that.
