I highly recommend you giving Sweet T's Cakes a try for your next event. This was the first time…read morewe've ever had anything from her and we were so impressed. I called with only a week notice and she was happily able to accommodate. I told her my daughter wanted a chocolate cake, I wanted buttercream frosting and that her party was ice cream themed. I also told her I was thinking about having an ice cream cone on top that looked like it was melting and that we were having an ice cream sundae bar at the party. We were so excited to pick up our cake and see how beautiful and perfect it was. The buttercream frosting was so delicious. Everyone at the party enjoyed it because it's not a sweet sugary buttercream. It has the creamy taste and buttery texture without the really sweet flavor or grainy sugar texture like most buttercream. When it's cold it almost breaks but when it's room temp it's smooth like whipped topping almost. It's far from whipped topping you'll find at Meijer or Walmart (which I don't like!). I can't wait to have our next cake make by Sweet T's. I'd love to try a cake that's chocolate with chocolate frosting and even one that's got Bavarian or something on the inside. Definitely give her your business. You'll be happy you did.

Found this bakery online as I wanted to order cookies for my daughter's kick off for her first year…read moreof her new job as a Summer Camp director at the YMCA. I emailed back and forth and Tenia was very helpful. I told her I wanted a selection of cookies, I think I got 12 dozen that first year? I wanted enough for her entire staff plus all the counselors, too. I asked for some gluten-free, some vegan and a variety of flavors. She made an incredible selection for their training kick off and had them delivered to camp. A year later, I was an "expectant grandma" and had several dozen baby cupcakes delivered to camp as well for my daughter. Beautiful pink "champagne" cupcakes, my daughter loved them and said they were delicious. I am not from the area so have not yet tried them myself (next time I visit!) but everyone at camp who tasted them absolutely loved the cookies and cupcakes. I appreciate Tenia's customer service and making it easy to work with her over email/phone and taking my payment. Wish I had the photos my daughter sent me! I was able to pull this one off my daughter's instagram but really wish I had her photo of the cupcakes, they were beautiful!

Mom choice and dad choice. Both were very delicious. My favorite was dad choice. It is a chocolate cake with peanut butter cup and chocolate frosting. thecake were soft and creamy, and the frosting was very nice and unique. The mom choice was vanilla cake topped with milk chocolate and oreo frosting. Vety good and fresh. I will come here again for sure. I don't think you can get enough of those cakes.

Amidst a pandemic that's crippled and closed so many small businesses, in Kalamazoo's Edison…read moreNeighborhood, a vibrant pink cupcake logo on a cute circular signed popped up on Portage Street, and a micro business designed to help feed the homeless in our community began not just to survive but thrive. Did I mention it was founded by a 15-year-old? Following her social media posts this summer and seeing this young entrepreneur's beaming smile and oh-so-instagrammable baked goods was one of those little things that helped fill my cup back up in a year so determined to empty it. When I picked up my first cupcake order this week, I had the opportunity to meet the owner, her tech wizard mother, and her loyal friend and coworker Arianna. Got goosebumps upon goosebumps hearing her story and her mission. Layla said the idea coalesced when she was brainstorming a business plan for a fourth grade economics project, and she decided not only was she going to pursue it, she wasn't going to wait until she was an adult to do so. She loved baking and it was incredibly important to her to help those less fortunate, so a bakery whose proceeds would help the homeless and nonprofits in our community was what she wanted to do. And she did! If you they aren't bananas busy when you stop in (and they probably will be -- the phone was ringing pretty constantly this week since they'd announced on social media that they had a few extra cupcakes available for pick-up that day), do be sure to take a moment chat with them and their enthusiasm for baking and their commitment to community. And then ... bite into your cupcake. And sigh out loud. Just the right amount of moisture without being too heavy. Silky icing applied in Goldilocks-just-right quantities. Baked in small batches with love. They've been offering quite a few vegan treats in the last few weeks, so I absolutely wanted to give those a try and was supremely impressed. The texture of my Spiced Caramel Apple cupcake was nearly the same as a regular cupcake made with egg, and the flavor infused by including apple cider and applesauce into the mix was incredible. I'm widely known in my friend group for my sublime spice cake -- I'm going to have to hope none of my friends try these because they're bomb.com and sooooo much better than my spice cake. So much so that I'm planning to try adding some cider to the recipe next time. I also was able to try one of the "Mom's Favorite" -- yellow cupcake with chocolate frosting topped with cookie crumbles. Mom's got fabulous taste, and an even more amazing kid! Patrons can visit the website early in the week (place your order Monday or Tuesday) and pick up their treats on Fridays. During the summer, the pick-up hours were 10 am to 2 pm but during the school year they're now 3 - 6 pm. Hours are expected to expand in October with Wednesday and Thursday hours being added. You can go inside to get your items (there's no street parking on that block but there's a complimentary lot behind the building that can be accessed from either of the neighboring side streets), or pull up to one of the pick-up signs (labeled #1 and #2) and call into the store to have your order delivered to your car. In addition to the weekly specials available for pick-up orders, the business also accepts special orders for parties and events. Items available for special order include cake pops, pretzel sticks, rice crispie treats (loaded with toppings or plain), brownies (loaded or plain), cupcakes, and specialty cupcakes (gluten-free or vegan).
