It had been a weary day for me. I was tired and rushed the entire day. And I hadn't eaten. I was driving home, frowning when traffic slowed in front of Amy Donuts. I looked at the building and thought-- no I just want to get home and cook this food. Then I saw the sign saying they had a drive thru. Scrrrrrrt.... crossed two lanes and winded to the order window. The attendant was sweet and happy and offered me a menu when I said I'd never had a donut there before. I went with my all time favorite-- long chocolate donut with Bavarian cream filling. Ring me up!- $2.38 with tax. Not bad! A minute later I was handed a to-go container with my treat. Pulled back onto Ft. Lowell and got a red light. Ate the entire thing with relish. The best red light I've ever waited through in my life. It was soft and warm and fluffy. They put enough cream inside that I didn't have to strategize my bites-- they ALL got lots of deliciousness. I actually heard myself nomn- nomn-nomning as I ate. I closed my eyes at one point. The drive through says they're open 24/7. What a wonderful time to be alive. Go get yourself a donut. I would say these are just so,so. I enjoyed them but have definitely had better donuts in Tucson. there are a lot of different flavors to choose from and something for everyone. I did come later in the afternoon so maybe the morning hours are better perhaps it could have just been an off day that I got them too. If you happen to go late at night there is a security guard to keep things safe and chances are he will hold the door open for an added touch of service. The donuts are amazing and come in sooo many different styles and toppings. I personally love the mounds and would go back for it. The dough is soft and fluffy, and stayed fresh even the next day. I have to admit I was skeptical. I kept hearing about donuts with all this junk piled on top. I wasn't that thrilled so didn't bother trying this place for a long time. Finally, someone brought a box to my office and I was thrilled to see beautiful frosted donuts in a variety of interesting flavors. I found I loved the strawberry frosted, maple, orange creamsicle, and glazed. The donuts are very light and perfectly risen without being too tough or chewy. The frostings are delicious without being too sweet. The staff are very nice and considerate. The young lady working at 4am was nice enough to pull me some glazed donuts that hadn't been put out yet. While Krispy Kreme will always first in my book as a Southerner, Amy's has garnered the number two spot and since the closest KK is all the way on the other side of the city, Amy's will get my business most of the time, especially as a 24 hour shop! read more

I've bought them many times as gifts for others, but with so many choices it's very hard to pick anything. They sell classics and specially donuts. In the 4-5 times i've gone, i've yet to try any of the standards. What a nice gift to give for a birthday or special event, but I can't image having these with any regularity as they have very sugary icing. I've tried the orange creamsicle and banana's foster, which were great once but are a kids palate (sugar) and I wouldn't get again and again. No inside space to sit, and coolers with drinks to go. I've yet to see the drive through open, but I'm not there when it's prime time. I'm happy to go to Amy's Donuts, as this embodies a rainbow feast of sweets, fulfilling my inner kid dreams. read more

2.5 stars, actually A friend told me about their filled chocolate rounds so I decided to bite the bullet--er rather the donut--and give Amy's a try. And my friend was correct. After asking me what "custard" I would like in my chocolate round (Miss, whipped creme is creme, lemon is lemon, and custard is custard.) I said I would like "custard." And like my friend told me about, she filled it to the max. It was quite heavy, it was so filled with custard. I didn't even desire to try any of their other cornucopia of flavors of donuts. I am definitely not a fan of over-the-top topping-ed donuts as I feel they are...well...over the top. I don't think that this type of donut is decadent, I think they are excessive. Just give me a good donut that doesn't need all the distraction. It may work for ice cream, but it doesn't work for donuts for me. No, I didn't like Fractured Prune in Gilbert, either. (You can read my review for that one, too.) Back to the custard filled pastry, which is called a Bismarck. It was way too much custard. There was more custard now than donut. It was difficult to eat. You have this nearly baseball-size glob of custard to navigate into your mouth. So much custard that it was difficult to get donut with the custard in a bite. Well, I guess that fits right in with their "excessive" theme. It wasn't enjoyable. Over all flavor was better than OK, but a little south of "Wow!" I mean the custard is a decent custard. Not the best I've ever had, but very decent. The donut itself was also very decent. On the light and fluffy side, not a bad donut. But again, it was the excess that was just way too much. If you like custard--no, if you LOVE custard--then this is the donut for you, by golly. I actually ended up globbing some off of my Bismarck and wiping it in the big styrofoam container she put it in for me to take. They take Apple Pay and other forms of smart phone payment. You will need it. You will need it because you will definitely need access to your credit card because of the exorbitant prices. Shoot, you may need to take out a loan or a second mortgage on your house to pay for your donuts. This one Bismarck, just ONE, set me back $2.38. I could buy almost three yummy Bismarcks from Donut Wheel, all made with perfect ratios of donut to custard for that price. You will suffer from cardiac arrest as a result of their prices before you do from eating this stuff. Well, Amy's Donuts will do well, as Americans just love to be excessive. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? I had been hearing about this place for months, but never bothered to look up where it was and make the foot since we live pretty far from midtown. We happened to drive by one day and we stopped in. The murals are very alluring, colorful, and full of Tucson-specific themes. We walked in and there was just a 5 minute wait (we went mid-afternoon) and we were blown away by the selection they had. We got a half dozen to-go for a very reasonable price and finished eating them by the time we got home! They have very unique flavors I haven't seen elsewhere and I'm looking forward to stopping by the next time I'm back in midtown. This is a national chain of donut shops that is steadily growing by the year. I like the donuts here, but they are quite a bit overpriced for what you buy at over 2.00 per donut. I get that they are creative with their toppings, but that pretty much sums up what this place is all about. This place might look cute on the outside, but it is lacking a soul on the inside. Okay, so after coming over earlier this last week only to find out that the grand opening had been rescheduled, we decided to come back tonight after church. The parking lot was crowded, but not totally full, and parking was easier than I had expected. Inside was crowded and moderately chaotic, but the line moved quickly and the staff seemed to be super efficient. There are about a hundred different kinds of donuts to choose from. My husband and I decided to get two apiece - he got the Elvis (peanut butter, bacon, chocolate and a dried banana) and the S'mores. I had the vanilla cheesecake and the Mounds. The donut holes are unbelievable, by the way. Stale nasty donut holes from the grocery store don't have anything on the ones here. I must have eaten between six and eight as we approached the counter to place our order. They were light, fluffy, fresh, perfectly glazed, and incredibly addictive. I'm sure I could have eaten two or three dozen in very quick procession. Husband loved his donut choices. The Elvis was delicious, and although I'm not a fan of marshmallows, I liked the S'mores one too. I was not quite as besotted with mine. The Mounds was tasty, covered with coconut and a dark chocolate glaze. The vanilla cheesecake, on the other hand...was cloyingly sweet and didn't taste anything like cheesecake. Considering I had been daydreaming about it since I saw it in the display case, I was less than impressed with it. Meh. Amy's Donuts is going to do great in Tucson, I have no doubt. Had to check this place out due to the amount of hype surrounding the donuts. It definitely lived up to the hype! There are so many to choose from, so it can be a bit overwhelming but whatever choice you make is bound to be a good one. They are pretty decadent though, so make sure you have a heaping glass of milk to wash down the sweetness of the donuts. As many people have also noted, it is a bit pricier than most other donut shops but I think it's warranted with the amount of uniqueness that goes into every donut. My son and I loved Amy's Donuts! The amount of choices are incredible. A little kid (and big kids) dream! We got the blueberry cake donut which was super rich and delicious. Reminded me of a dessert you could get at a restaurant. My son got the dirty worms one with chocolate cake crumbled on chocolate ice cream and the fun rainbow donut. The frosting on that was great. The space is huge. Wish there were a couple actual tables to sit and enjoy the donuts but they do have a table that lines the restaurant with some short stools to sit at. Definitely will be going back again when my son and I want a sweet treat during the day. It's also 30 minutes away from me and totally worth the drive in my opinion.
