Of all the new developments and restaurants Hutto has added to its repertoire, a traditional ice cream parlor was not one of them. That changed recently when Amy's announced it would be opening its newest location in Hutto in the same strip as Hooky, the new movie theater and entertainment venue. It makes perfect sense. Ice cream after a movie. They cracked the code.
Prior to this, the closest Amy's was right off I-35 in Round Rock, a 20 to 30 minute drive. The beloved Austin chain opening a location in Hutto just felt right. Today was their grand opening, and I got there shortly after they opened for business. If you have been to Amy's once, you know the drill.
They have great flavors themed around Austin influences like Zilker Mint or Texas Dirtcake. Here in Hutto, they have their exclusive Hutto Rocks flavor, and you bet I ordered that.
Even in 50 degree weather at 11 am, Hutto residents were excited, and there was a line practically out the door.
The store itself is small. There is no interior seating, but there are a few picnic tables and benches outside. Hooky next door has a large plaza, so there is plenty of outdoor space to hang around.
The staff was friendly, as Amy's typically is, and they made the experience feel warm despite it being ice cream. I got a small Hutto Rocks in a waffle cone. The flavor is their Sweet Cream blended with orange sprinkles for the Hutto spirit. They did not have to do anything like that, but the gesture shows they are excited to be in the city. It was a great flavor, though that is not surprising since Sweet Cream is already one of my favorites.
I am excited for Amy's to be here. I think it is great to have a location in Hutto, and it will absolutely satisfy my sweet tooth on a Friday night. I can already picture seeing a blockbuster at Hooky in the summer and heading to Amy's right after for a cone with my friends. This summer is going to be a movie. Amy's. Hutto. Forever.
