Amtrak station

First of all, the crew is very professional and helpful. Everyone is friendly and makes you feel welcome aboard the train. Riding the train is very calming and relaxing. It's a chance for everyone to slow down and enjoy the scenery, see the parts of the country you don't see from the road. The only complaint I have is the food service - most of trains here in the Northwest don't have a dining car, so all you've got for choices is snacks. That's alright for a short trip, but I wouldn't like it on a longer journey. I enjoy riding enough that I try to take a train trip once a year. Wish I could go more often.

Really love traveling by Amtrak,- if you have the time available its nicer then flying and get to see a lot of scenery you won't get to see driving or flying. The negative though is the time it takes to get there, and also unless the place your going is walking distance everywhere you want to go, or that you have access to a vehicle or trust the local transit system, then that can be a minus. Overall, I've always enjoyed riding Amtrak and would have no problem using them for whatever trips I have planed and would recommend them.

In addition, at some point in the trip, you can participate in a wine and cheese event held in the dining car.

The bus arrival times are usually punctual but not always but it's safe to say that they are fairly reliable. For downtown I kind of plan it out prior to see what Seattle neighborhoods I will be going to and if the Seattle light rail will cover those areas. If so, then this is a super efficient way to get around to where you want to go. And if I wanted to go somewhere where the light rail doesn't cover there definitely would be a bus but usually I am simply trying to make the travel route as simple as possible. As far as going to the airport? Super smooth practically every time. We get off at the Skybridge stop... I believe International Blvd. stop and once you are across the skybridge. Boom! There you are. Since it is Tacoma we are dealing with over the various times we have used this stop some minor security concerns arise with some people that loiter there and have no intention of using transit but we personally had no unfortunate experiences but I am sure plenty of unfortunate experiences do go down here.

There are some legit restaurants at this station. Nothing fancy, just food mall type places, all independent. My favorite is the Indian food place because that food is amazing. There's also some cool places nearby, like the afternoon tea place around the corner and the Filipino restaurant up the hill. It's kind of a food ghetto over there and I'm all about that.

It is located prominently in downtown Tacoma, right along Pacific Avenue near the Tacoma Art Museum, Washington State History Museum, and Chihuly Bridge of Glass. From the outside, the building is stately and eye-catching with its large, sweeping arches and brick exterior. From the inside, it's even more beautiful, though, with the largest collection of Dale Chihuly artwork in town - and it's completely free to come in and see it. Photo I.D. is required for entry. With the decline in rail service due to a variety of reasons we will NOT go into here, the need for these large cathedrals of transit diminished and the budget money better spent elsewhere. Thankfully the structure was NOT demolished like NYC did to Penn Station and so many other of these architectural gems throughout the country. Instead it was turned into a courthouse. Tell the guard at the door you'd just like to look around, and he will run you through the metal detector and you can wander pretty much at will. One flight down you find a small, and I mean VERY small museum of sorts. Encased behind several in-wall glass cases, you will find the remnants of old tickets, route flyers, and old devices like an old telegraph ticker. Although, I am sure they had telephones when they shut down service in the 60s. I only wish the museum had been more extensive. Or that maybe they would have had an actual train there or something. Dream on. If you really are a train buff and you want to see stuff like that, you can search for train museums here on Yelp, Like the Northwest train Museum. Anyway, I wouldn't go out of my way to go see this, but, If you're in downtown Tacoma and curious like I was, and enjoy older architecture, then, it is worth a look. It's really only about a 20 minute proposition. Oh, there is a giant Chihuly hanging in the main concourse. You can't miss it. Also. apparently they are a wedding venue. So if you're getting hitched (no pun intended) in Tacoma, you might want to take a look too. I can't think of a better place to go with a group of people. I love having choices! My friends and I went for a walk at Titlow and decided to come to FHS for lunch. Parking used to be much harder before the parking garage was built for Sound Transit. Plenty of parking across the street now. There's Vietnamese, Mexican, Greek, Fish and Chips, Burgers, Indian, and others I can't remember. The Mexican was pretty typical but the Indian food was delicious! 5 stars for them. Next time, Greek for me. Please, owner/manager of Freighthouse, please create a marketing plan. Get the word out. There was hardly anyone there at noon on a beautiful Saturday. This could truly be Tacoma's Pike Place Market if you slapped a coat of paint on it and power washed a bunch of stuff. I don't want FHS to close and turn into expensive apartments/condos. We don't need that, we need FHS.

Wow, the hotel staff are very nice, good service, that was not enough. We stayed on the sixth floor and unfortunately could hear all the vehicles driving around at night (very loud). In addition to the outside noise, there was also the noise from the hallway which was rowdy. Now these things can happen, but would really drop them down to a one star was the fact that there was absolutely no parking when we came back to our hotel/the casino at 9 PM. There's no valet and there's no designated hotel parking so we drove around in the parking garage connected to the hotel for two laps in a long line of other people looking for a parking spot and found nothing! in addition to that, the parking garage on the hotel side makes absolutely no sense. It's In-N-Out aisle on the south end of the garage in the north end of the garage comes to complete dead end so as you're sneaking through, you would think it would circle around, but it doesn't. it's a dead end and it is a traffic cluster when you have folks coming to a dead end and then trying to figure out do I reverse or do I try to do some crazy u turn?! So we went over to the casino parking garage, which was bigger and more thought out as it pertains to traffic flow. After about 20 to 25 minutes of looking for a parking spot between the two garages, we eventually parked on the casino side because somebody was thankfully leaving for the night.
