Union Station used to be a train station that served as the terminus of the transcontinental…read morerailroad starting in 1911, though when Amtrak took over the Burlington Northern Railroad (formerly Pacific Northern) and moved their operations in 1984 to Seattle, the station ceased operations. After falling into disrepair once the building no longer served as a train station, the building was renovated in the early 1990s and now serves as the US District Court building. Today what used to be the main waiting room is an open domed chamber with oculus, with several large glass sculptures by Dale Chihuly hanging from the ceiling. The central piece is reminiscent of the one hanging in the Victoria & Albert Museum lobby in London (also by Chihuly). On a weekend afternoon the building wasn't open, so I peeked in through the doors for a look. On weekdays during business hours the building can be entered though visitors need to show ID and go thru a security check since it's a functioning courthouse. The bus arrival times are usually punctual but not always but it's safe to say that they are fairly reliable. For downtown I kind of plan it out prior to see what Seattle neighborhoods I will be going to and if the Seattle light rail will cover those areas. If so, then this is a super efficient way to get around to where you want to go. And if I wanted to go somewhere where the light rail doesn't cover there definitely would be a bus but usually I am simply trying to make the travel route as simple as possible. As far as going to the airport? Super smooth practically every time. We get off at the Skybridge stop... I believe International Blvd. stop and once you are across the skybridge. Boom! There you are. Since it is Tacoma we are dealing with over the various times we have used this stop some minor security concerns arise with some people that loiter there and have no intention of using transit but we personally had no unfortunate experiences but I am sure plenty of unfortunate experiences do go down here.

I'm glad to see they're gearing up for the Sea-Tac Airport connection and World Cup 2026. I have friends and fam who are excited about the grand opening. The Southend expansion would definitely ease the current parking garage situation at Angle Lake. It gets filled up pretty quickly on game days, concerts, and special events happening in downtown Seattle and Seattle Center.

Racists…read moresecurity guards and the bathrooms are very gross and I haven't used them but I never will either. My recommendation is to use the bathroom somewhere before you arrive there. Most of the patrons that use them bathrooms are the homeless and druggies to shoot up. They've got some security guards that do what their supposed to do and that is to walk the entire property daily during their shifts and some whom refused to talk and just stand around and talk to people and ignore others. I was there and have seen them and how they treat people. Other stations are much nicer then this one, also with nicer guards. If you can help it I'd try to catch the sounder at a different location.
