For downtown I kind of plan it out prior to see what Seattle neighborhoods I will be going to and if the Seattle light rail will cover those areas. If so, then this is a super efficient way to get around to where you want to go. And if I wanted to go somewhere where the light rail doesn't cover there definitely would be a bus but usually I am simply trying to make the travel route as simple as possible. As far as going to the airport? Super smooth practically every time. We get off at the Skybridge stop... I believe International Blvd. stop and once you are across the skybridge. Boom! There you are. Since it is Tacoma we are dealing with over the various times we have used this stop some minor security concerns arise with some people that loiter there and have no intention of using transit but we personally had no unfortunate experiences but I am sure plenty of unfortunate experiences do go down here.

We use our Orca Card and with a quick swipe off we go. I haven't had too much trouble with timeliness on this bus despite being in situations where Interstate travel is quite heavy. It can get in the bus lanes and on one occasion it took an alternate route to avoid heavy congestion briefly. We have learned the stops downtown for this bus and the loading and disembarking at the beginning point and end point is typically smooth. Of course there will be confusion by some bus riders over one thing or another but typically it's handled with efficiency. This is a good bus to take if you are going to any stadium events downtown.

Then as I wrangled my children and kept them away from airport traffic, I witnessed Chris circle back to the front seat, get in, close the door, buckle up, and then simply sit and watch as my husband again struggle for a good 10-15 minutes to attach and secure both the car seat and booster. If there were any legality that may have prevented Chris from setting up the car seat and booster seat beforehand, we were not informed. He said nothing. He did nothing. He just watched. The final straw was the state of the car seat: visibly grimy with dark stains. It looked like it was picked up on the side of the road or fished out of the dumpster somewhere. Our 4-year old became so frightened, he fought us and cried as we bit our tongue and strapped him in. The booster seat was in no better shape, but our 7-year old handled it better--kudos to him. The car itself, at least, was clean. The driving was safe, thank goodness, but the ride reflected its driver's bitter and sour mood. Our conclusion? Never again. It was there because Cascade #517 had killed a trespasser a few miles north of the station and it would be at least an hour before it could leave. The station attendant kept us informed as the situation evolved. Meantime, we talked to other waiting passengers and used the very clean restrooms. Finally, Cascade #504 departed. A few minutes later Cascade #517 arrived and most of the passengers in the station boarded the train. About 15 minutes later, Cascade #507 arrived on Track 2 forcing us to walk to the nearby intersection, cross the tracks, and walk back to the train. We departed Tacoma over an hour late. Overall we were satisfied with our experience at the Tacoma Dome Station. Footnote: the equipment used on both trains was badly in need of upgrades.
