Much nicer than some of the Metra employees in Chicago (like the one time I took the Metra into Wheaton and one of the Metra guys ran out and insisted I didn't pay...) The app is helpful because it shows real time status. No agent on premise so you have to purchase your tickets online or by phone.

There is a fairly large well-lit lot (that was mostly empty when I arrived) just on the other side of the tracks from the station (go around the block to the east). The lot is marked with signs saying "Illinois Terminal. Parking by Permit Only." The easiest approach is to park there and walk around the north side to the station. Once inside Illinois Terminal, go to the second floor (the Amtrak area) and look for the sign on the pole saying "Long Term Parking Registration." Grab a blank form, fill it out (car make/color/license, Amtrak reservation number, name, phone, date returning), and drop it in the box. All set. Nothing to put in your car. The station itself is clean, attractive, and comfortable. Nothing outstanding, but perfectly usable. When the train arrives, they have a system of a single file line outside the door, where they check off everyone's name before sending them to the train. Definitely a fine option for parking and catching the City of New Orleans.

I miss the old train station and its architectural details and history. Perhaps I also miss my memories of that place, too. The new terminal and the trains are very clean, but sometimes I think they Herve been sanitized and the history, romance, and charm of train travel have been scrubbed away, too.

Entered the Amtrak Train Station in St. Louis Mo and it was horrible…read more Boarded a 8:00am train from stl to chi expecting to be able to private s snack or something during the ride but there was only. We were informed that the riders in the rooms on the lower level are guaranteed food but not for people in coach. I should have gotten something to eat before boarding but street much investigation I was informed that there is a diner on the train where food can be purchased only to get in here and be told the food is only for people in the rooms, not coach. We are in the last train and there is an announcer but we can't here anything that's he's saying, it just sounds mumbled. I am a diabetic and am worrying about my sugar levels dropping to low since the only thing I've had since last night is a bag of chips. Please do not get in the train expecting to be able to purchase food because there is none to purchase, nothing. This ride has proven to me that the train is just 1 step above Greyhound and at jest with Greyhound you can get off and get food at the stops. Never again.

A hint given to me was to purchase the return ticket as well, because they are cheaper to buy here than over in Missouri (my turn-around destination) Return to Scott AFB thru the turnstile after showing proper military ID to base security.

July 1, 2017 DuQuion…read moreto Chicago Union station. The DuQuion station is a small, unmanned, air conditioned depot in the middle of downtown DuQuion. Free, easy parking. There is no ticket station, so buy your ticket in advance. Not sure if you can purchase your ticket on the train. The conductors were not all that friendly and very little information was given during the, what ended up being a little over 6 hour ride. They don't check your baggage, but they did help me get my bag onboard. We had several delays due to freight trains, causing us to be over an hour late. The seats were comfortable and there's electrical outlets at every seat section. Overhead storage. My bag was placed in the car in front of me, so every time we stopped I was worried someone would just walk off the train with my bag. Needless to say, I got up and checked at each stop. The ride was really bumpy. Something I've not experienced inn previous train rides. The train really bounced a lot back and forth. My back was wrecked by the end of the trip. So no train ride is complete without checking out the dining car. I had to ask another passenger which way it was, as there was no information I could find onboard. Once I got to the dining car the cashier was less than friendly. I asked if I could order a hot dog ala carte and she said yes, then looked and said they were out of hot dogs. Sigh So I said let me think. She never smiled. She counted money while another person waited. She just said, what do you want? I'm like, I'll just wait.. thanks and walked away. Stopped at bathroom, and it was a mess. Urine all over the seat, toilet paper is practically on the floor, it's so low and the seat was angled in a way that just made it awkward to use the toilet. Finally at our arrival, an hour and 15 minutes late, I then realized my bag was in the other car and being the last stop, everyone was getting off. Ugh, I should have moved to the other car. I literally had to wait for every person to get off the train before i could get to the other car to get my bag. Only friendly gesture of the night was the young conductor taking my bag off the train and offering his hand to me while exciting the train. A long walk to get out of the terminal... I made it!

I've used this location as a predictable hub to get picked up from, or dropped off at to catch a…read moretrain. For years it was just an old worn out enclosed brick shelter with one of those overhead heaters. It was a far cry from comfortable to wait in during the winter months, but that has now changed. This station has been completely renovated from it's former state of almost dilapidation. There's now a nice heated indoor waiting area with benches, drinking fountain, and 2 handicap accessible restrooms. They have handicapped parking close to the tracks now as well. I regret not looking to see what the hours are on the station, nor taking photos as I was a little pressed for time.

While I was waiting for the rest of my group to arrive I was watching people get off of the train and grab their bikes and head home. How Green are you?????? This trail is 15 miles from start to finish. We began in the middle, we rode out to SWIC, the junior college in Belleville, Took a water break and then biked to the other end, which is near the west end of Belleville. It was wide enough for two bikes to meet and runners had plenty of room. This was a nice easy trail.
