The Union Station was very modern and clean. The only downside was that the deli was closed at 2 pm in the afternoon. The train was on time, staff was very pleasant. The ride was comfortable and quick. Street parking is available on the cross streets surrounding the station and Morgan St Municipal offers Free All Day Parking on weekends.

Various signs tell the story and there are large replicas of locomotives. Kids would definitely enjoy checking them out. My group didn't spend any time there when we arrived (breweries to visit) but looked around for a little bit that night when waiting for our return train to Raleigh. Four out of the 10 had bikes, so after getting them off the train they either carried them up the area (a good number) or used the elevator. Once you're at street level, you're on the main road in downtown High Point. We didn't step into the station until we were boarding to go back, but the interior is lined with hardwood and they've preserved the old time feel and look with the floors, walls and even the ticket counters. There was no attendant inside when we were there, and you have to get the restroom unlocked. The boarding platform is very long and has benches lining it. Before heading downstairs, take in the view of the skyline.

It's a very quaint and understated station, but also very beautiful with its red brick and tree-lined tracks. You can park for as long as needed in the station's lot for free. That's a huge bonus if you need to leave your car for several hours or even days. The attendant will give you a parking pass for as long as your trip lasts. I enjoyed my trip to DC and everything went smoothly at the station.
