Lionel trains, Lionel trains and Lionel trains along with friendly folks to ask about and discuss them. Great to see youngsters wandering and wondering the place. Great also to NOT SEE anyone staring endlessly into their pocket hand held devices.

With a young son, I wanted to get a train set for under the Christmas Tree last year. I was hoping to get a decent set - one that he could use with his own family someday. Against my better judgement, I opted for a great looking set at a great price on eBay, instead of just buying one here. The set arrived - and it did look great on the outside. The inside was another matter. All of the copper was corroded to the point that it powdered off the circuit boards. This is where my story with the Electric Train Depot begins... I stopped by there in early December, just to see what was wrong and what could be done to (hopefully) fix the train. Jeff (the owner) looked at it, and tried to run it to no avail. It was pretty much a paper weight, and my controller was toast as well. Next thing I knew, Jeff let me borrow a loaner locomotive because he said we needed to have a train under the tree while he sent mine out for evaluation and maybe repair. He also explained the controller I needed, as well as a bunch of other pointers for a newbie. This didn't necessary save Christmas, but it helped make it really, really awesome. My son's engine was eventually repaired, and is now in service. What was maybe going to be a Christmas Tradition has become a year-round hobby with a small folding table. For that, I must thank Jeff, Pam, and Jessica for all their help! Definitely a FIVE STAR out of five star experience. That and who doesn't love toy trains?

I brought my iPhone 16 Pro Max to Nortech, an authorized Apple retailer in Downtown Hammond, for a…read morescreen repair. The only redeeming part of the experience was working with Kaylee, the employee handling my case. She has been consistently professional, knowledgeable, and kind--truly a joy to work with. Her customer service is exceptional, and she clearly takes pride in her work. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience left a lot to be desired, largely due to the management. When I came to pick up my phone, Kaylee was the only person working in the store. She was on a business call in the back--again, doing everything on her own--while the owner's large, aggressive poodle barked uncontrollably throughout the store. The barking was so disruptive, it made it difficult to speak with Kaylee at times. To make matters worse, I was using an older, disconnected phone and asked the owner (one of the brothers who owns the store) if I could access the Wi-Fi. His curt response was: "There should be a guest network. She will help you with that." There was no guest network. Thankfully, Kaylee went out of her way to connect me to the locked private Wi-Fi. She shouldn't have to constantly clean up after the owners' lack of foresight or consideration. It's clear the owners have little regard for the customer experience--and even less regard for the well-being of their own employee. Kaylee seems to be running the entire operation singlehandedly, which is both unsustainable and unacceptable. I've decided to contact Apple directly to express my concern, because I expect better from a certified Apple partner. The store itself is poorly stocked with Apple products, and it feels like the certification is being used as a badge, not a standard. To be clear: Kaylee is fantastic. But she's the only reason I'm giving this review two stars instead of one. Nortech needs serious management reform. Until that happens, I cannot recommend this location.

While we were checking out, an elderly woman walked up behind us, clearly a little confused. The cashier, Dasia, repeatedly asked her--at least five times--if she had pressed the call button, in a very abrupt tone. The woman looked embarrassed and didn't seem to understand what was being asked of her. It just felt unnecessarily harsh. I completely understand retail can be stressful, but a little patience and kindness, especially with older customers, would go a long way. Hoping this was just an off moment, because I've had better experiences here before.

Gift items decreased tremendously during Covid, and have never returned. Which is sad because that was a big part of my shopping. The purse section carries a good stock of choices, as well as travel accessories. Children's clothing is nice, toys are okay. Men's is somewhat lacking, but doable. Service is good, no complaints. Value is also good. All in all, not a bad place to shop. Especially in this area, where choices can be limited.
