This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast. My husband and I were headed to the Louisiana Renaissance festival, and I was unimpressed with the local hotel offerings, so I decided to take a chance on a B&B. When we walked up, a wedding party was outside, so it was a bit awkward when we checked in. However, the owner was nice and personable, and showed us to our room. We stayed in the Marie Antoinette. We were both very impressed with the ornate furnishings and well maintained room. The room was clean and had cold AC. There was a convenient coffee station and full sized fridge in the hallway. Breakfast was made to order, as we were the only guests at that particular time if the morning. It was good ( sausage, eggs, crossaint and hash) , but nothing spectacular. But as it was included in the price of the room, no complaints. Very cute! I recommend it. read more

This was a lovely experience on my most recent visit to Nola, they are located approximately an hr. I was in town for the 50th Anniv Jazz Fest. Once we arrived the owner greeted us and explained everything, told us if we needed anything he lives on the grounds. Our room was very nice and clean, coffee machine outside the door with cream! The house was absolutely gorgeous, its historic and a gem. I walked around taking pics and then enjoyed the balcony overlooking the front yard. They do have rocking chairs for you to enjoy. I loved my room, lots of space, wifi, and the bed was comfy. We had a wonderful view from our room as well. Breakfast was homemade and plentiful, enough choices for all. Very nice inn! We are NOT the B & B types, or the excited-by-Victorian-tchotchkes type either but this place is an exception! Excellent eye for detail and quality. Not only a great quality construction renovation a few years back, but the furnishings, fixtures and equipment are of excellent quality and interest - from the high quality art reproductions and window treatments, to formal Homer Laughlin place settings at breakfast, the inn keepers really have made a place with an eye for "the total experience." If not already betrothed, think about having your big event here! A couple of details I'd change: Again great quality foods at breakfast though could be more varied and the mattress was not as firm as I like. One hint: A bit more dusting/deep cleaning would help keep up the illusion of high style from other centuries. read more

The mansion is over 100 years old so don't expect it to be brand new, but filled with charm and a wonderful staff. Close to Toula shopping and restaurants, Five star restaurant is maybe 10 minutes away and is superb. Great couple getaway to relax and be on no time lines to help and destress from everyday life . This is a beautiful bed and breakfast. We stayed here for Valentine's Day. The property is gorgeous and it's nice to walk around the gardens. Our room was big and comfortable. The bed was super comfortable. There was a balcony that had lovely views over the gardens. They do have a pool and a hot tub to relax in. The morning breakfast was set up in a gorgeous dinning room. And we had the company of a pretty cat while we ate. I would definitely stay here again! read more

I had my wedding reception there in 2011 and I am still unhappy about it. The food was decent, but I didn't get any because as the bride I was too busy to get to the buffet. Most of the food was gone when I did make it there, so I didn't get much. I didn't get any of my own wedding cake either, because despite it's enormous size, the owner did not know how to cut a wedding cake, passing out huge chunks of the improperly cut cake. Several people did not get any. The only piece I did have after cutting the cake, was picked up and disposed of while I was taking photos, so I didn't even get to eat that piece. We had a jazz trio and some guest singers for music. No loud rock music, or anything too extreme. Our weekend wedding reception was due to end at 11:00 p.m. and the owner's husband was agitated that our music was going to disturb the neighborhood. Several times he physically rapped his cane against the floor while shouting how we were too loud. If you are going to rent wedding reception facilities, you should be prepared for music and dancing. My reception was not too large, around 125-30 guests. Afterword, the owner billed us several hundred extra dollars claiming we had around 30 more guests than planned for. I was not aware of any extra guests at all, and I knew just about everyone there. She charged this extra money despite not providing extra food, drink, or anything else that would have warranted extra expenses. I didn't even have special decor, I just went with what they already had set up. In hindsight, I should have let her sue me for it and prove who the extra guests were, which I doubt she could do since there were none. I think she just wanted extra money and was "put out" by having to hold our reception, which was the general feeling I had the entire time. The facility is nice enough, and the food was pretty good, seeing as the owner's husband was a chef. We stayed overnight. It was okay. I am not sure the BnB services are terrible, but I do know my wedding services left much to be desired. The overcharging was terrible, and the feeling that you are in someone's space and disturbing their peace when you rent wedding reception facilities from them is not a happy wedding day memory. read more

Had a rehearsal dinner there on May 19, 2022. The 1/2 cup of gumbo was tasty. The salad was a bag salad of spring greens. The dressing was a liquid the consistency of water, not sure what it was. The main meal was to be filet, fish with a sauce, broccoli and dirty rice. You received 1/2 of a filet that was cooked well done. The fish was broiled and hard. The broccoli was over cooked and mushy and the dirty rice was cold. Ate about 1/4 of it. The dessert was a frozen cake with a sliver of cheesecake with Hershey's chocolate syrup drizzled on it. Was awful and I feel bad for the mother and father of the groom who had to pay for it. The wedding food the following day was much better. read more

THE GROUNDS WERE B E A U T I F U L!!!!! so beautiful that people even have their weddings there! Which is super charming! We stayed there over Mardi Gras weekend. The drive is fairly easy to New Orleans! I would stay there again next time I go to Louisiana for sure! I stayed in the venician suite and it made me want to go back to Venice! We woke up and had breakfast, which was SUPER delicious & then took a stroll around the land, we took a ton of pictures!! Don't hesitate to book you next stay here! Terrible breakfast experience. Don't waste your time or money. Breakfast was served between 8-10. We arrived at 9:15 to dirty tables, dirty buffet, no coffee or silverware, no food on the buffet and no staff to be found. We called the Innkeeper he said he would address it. We waited 20 minutes then decided to go to a local restaurant for breakfast. We have been to Michabelle Inn before & had exceptional service-that is why we returned. It is unfortunate that the quality of service has declined to this degree since we were here last. read more

This is my home when in the Hammond/New Orleans/Baton Rouge area. It is a quintessential taste of the south. The beautiful plantation style home with all of its creaky floors and hidden doors and interesting spaces represent elegance and style. Our bedroom was tastefully decorated, spacious and well appointed. There is a common area upstairs with a fridge and coffee set-up. The upstairs balcony is my favorite place to hang out with a glass of wine. The perfect way to end a day. The owners/operators of the Inn are friendly and accommodating. They live on site and are very prompt in their response to any assistance you may need. The grounds are pretty and for the most part, well maintained. There is a beautiful water feature in the front yard that gives this Inn spectacular curb appeal. As hard as is is to say anything negative, in the spirit of full disclosure I will add, it was under minor construction while we were there this time. There was some painting and serious landscape work going on last time. While necessary and only a minor inconvenience, it does in a small way take away from the experience of being there. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. My home away from home. read more

We stayed in the Orleans Suite which is the largest of the suites. It had a separate living room area with a couch, TV, desk, table and chairs, and access to the cottage's front porch. The bedroom contains a romantic king sized bed. barrel ceilings, elegant woodwork, and full sized Jacuzzi bathtub. The Orleans suite is ideal for families traveling with children, featuring a sleep sofa in the separate living room. The bedroom also features cable, TV, mini-fridge and microwave. It is located failry close to New Orleans, and we felt like we were staying in Disney's haunted mansion which we loved. We asked the house lady if it was haunted, and she said no. I can contest there were no noises, or anything spooky at all during our stay. The awesome part was the bamboo walkway which had frogs, and other animal life. Being from southern california, this was much different than where we live. We loved it. read more

Place needs some serious maintenance and upkeep. We rented 6 rooms for a wedding party to stay there. We spent over $1000 for the night. We went down for breakfast and had 3 extra people join us including a 2 year old. We were charged $100 extra for the breakfast that could have been purchased at Shoneys for $10. Very rude manager that was never friendly since our arrival. We will never stay or recommend this place to anyone. Staff never checked to see if we needed anything. We had to make due with whatever we could. Basically you got a key to a room. Place is located in a very shady neighborhood. read more

Hilton prices...motel six experience. My wife and I stayed here in a date night. We paid $188 for one night ($25 was taxes) and got one of the cottage rooms themed Moroccan. The room was VERY mid '90's and nothing was repaired or updated since. Bed was hard as rock. Supposed to be four post bed was really two pipes with fabric draped on them to loom like front posts. Bed sat upon a platform to look middle eastern, yet the platform was covered in white cheap carpet. Pillows were old and horrible. The cottage was really more like a mobile home trailer set on the ground. Walls are thin and floor is bouncy. Sink would fall off the pedi stool, shower door would not shut, support under the plastic shower basin must have rotted because I thought I was going to fall through. Kurig was really cheap knock off and didn't work, not that I would have used it as it looks like it was never cleaned. VERY muggy in the room, I am from Louisiana so I understand but if it's that bad put an dehumidifier in the room. We were forced to check in before 8pm even though we're we're going out to dinner at that time. So we had to hurry and go check in prior to going out. Not really a big issue but for the price and the fact we had a private "cottage" I should be able to check in anytime. The house was kind of cool as it was a old "plantation" type home, but it was a bit tacky inside and there really is not much on the main floor as the kitchen takes up most of it. Breakfast was OK. Potatoes, real eggs, watered down coffee, cold constant, dry sausage. The breakfast sitting area was nice, but the paint on the ceiling was peeling and they went and painted tacky cherubs on the ceiling. In not really fan of B&B to be honest but everything else was booked due to a festive in the area, but for the price this place was the worst. read more

I have very, very mixed feelings. We only stayed one night, in the main house. They had very nice prices, but I think I'd also like to be able to count on a long hot shower. Room: * The room was quiet, GIANT and the a/c worked pretty darn well. We stayed in the Pompadour which is right next to the stairs - didn't hear anyone else coming in or out! This was super impressive since it's an older home (obviously) with wood floors. * Bed is comfy, not too firm or too squishy. They could use some new pillowcases (very pilly!) * Bathroom fan was broken, the hot water in the shower ran out after 10 min, so my husband had to take a not-even-warm shower. One of the tabs on the heavy drapes was torn (doesn't necessarily matter but looks funky) and the room smelled a bit mildewy, and I noticed some moldy spots on the window frame in the morning. Breakfast - There's a buffet with scrambled eggs, sausage patties, fruit, etc. Location - the hotel is smack in the middle of a shady neighborhood. The front gate was open when we arrived (pretty sure it was after 10pm) and the back parking lot is not particularly well-lit. We didn't have any issues but it did not feel very secure. Though I guess it's better than the open parking lots at the "big hotels" in town ;) . read more

Run as fast as you can AWAY from this place! We stayed here based on the review - mistake. The place is a DUMP! - The "cottages" were really an old trailer hidden by half-dead bamboo trees. - The room smelled dank, musty, and moldy. - The throw rugs were disgustingly filthy; I would not walk on them without shoes. - The jacuzzi tub had a leaking faucet and mold inside the jets - not so "romantic." - The decor was cheesy, complete with plastic foliage everywhere in the room. - The breakfast was not the "pleasure to eye as well as the taste buds" as claimed on their website, but rather an inedible mess that should never have been taken out of the freezer. The omelet had no flavor. The fruit cocktail was a partially defrosted out-of-season frozen fruit medley topped with Cool Whip. The croissant and mini-muffins, although defrosted completely, tasted like the refrigerator. And the tea tasted like cardboard. If you are looking for a romantic get-away do not waste your time or money here! read more

My husband and I stopped here on our way to our New Orleans anniversary trip. We stayed in the Orleans Suite. It is located in a cottage-like building off of the main house. While the building (if I remember correctly) is a triplex, it felt very private and it was quiet. There is a screened in porch. The room has a separate living area with a sofa bed. There is a jacuzzi in the room with candles. It's romantic while being affordable. It was very clean. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. The location was in a kind of residential area and it felt very safe. I think that if you compared this Inn with local hotels, you'd see the value. There are many more amenities than other places to stay in Hammond. I wouldn't pay much attention to some of the more negative reviews. I do not mean to be offensive, but they lack weight. This isn't a five star hotel in a metropolitan area. So, don't expect that. There aren't priceless antiques in the suites (There was a bidet, though). There is no man wearing a three piece suit following you around with a crumb duster. That's perfectly fine. I prefer it that way. There are genuinely kind owners, more amenities, good value, clean and thoughtfully decorated rooms and breakfast. Though, we slept through breakfast 'cause the beds were nice and the room is pleasantly dark when you close the curtains. Oh, and the wifi worked better than most of the ritzier hotels I've stayed in. It worked well enough for me to take a final. We'd recommend this place. read more

I will NEVER stay here again. You have been warned. Booked this hotel for my wedding night. The room was great but the customer service was terrible. I spoke with someone over the phone who sounded like a middle aged white man who yelled at me as he was trying to explain that they would leave my key to the room and leave the room unlocked when I asked him to repeat himself. Also, my cousin ended up going to check us into our room and get our key. She said there was a middle aged white man who handled the transaction in a way where he behaved as if he did not want to service her or interact with her. She said The Whole interaction appeared forced and was cringe worthy. Finally, when we (my finance' and I) came down for breakfast, we witnessed a middle aged white man push past another younger employee in a very rude manner. I really don't understand why certain people take on roles in customer service when they have not an once of hospitality in their body. I don't know if he acts like this toward all people or if it's just toward Black people. But my cousin said she picked up some very racist vibes. Also, they charged my chard 2 days prior to check in which was extremely weird. read more

Magical stay in the Shaherazad suite. I took my 93 year young away gor two nights to help cheer us up grom mourning the passing of her last son and my last ntother. What a wonderful relaxing time. The rain came and we enjoyed watching it through the vast bamboo. read more

We enjoyed the breakfast very much. We gave 4 stars because the hotel site said there was a dip pool and jacuzzi for guests to use. There was not - the area was torn up and unusable. We noticed this as we walked around the grounds. Overall we liked the Inn and would stay there again if we were out that way. read more

We stayed in the Venetian suite. It has a huge comfy bed and a jacuzzi tub. It was decorated with an Italian theme and that was very peaceful and serene. I entrusted the owner with creating a once in a lifetime memory for my daughter and son in law. Needless to say it was a memorable experience in a very negative way. My daughters had to clean the reception hall the morning of their sister's wedding. We asked for water and the response was "there are two glasses and the water faucet". A couple was checking in and blocking the driveway while wedding guests were arriving 35 minutes before the ceremony. I had to find the owner in the reception room (mind you, I'm the mother of the bride and I haven't changed for the wedding) AND that's when I realized the food was going to be a disaster because there was not any aroma of food cooking in the kitchen. The comments from guests were: food was cold, it was bland, unappealing, did not replenish the fruit, salad was iceberg lettuce, presentaton was deplorable, coke was watered down, beer was hot, wine was cheap. I paid $35 per person and paid for 175 and @100 came. He made a serious profit considering 75 people didn't come. Where was the delicious food???? My daughter and now son in law were given 2 plates of unappealing food with no fruit nor salad. They couldn't heat the food because the microwave in the Venetian suite did not work. After I wrote the last payment it was obvious that he didn't care about making special memories for anyone. I paid for the wedding, reception, a suite, and 2 rooms in the plantation. Hospitality was definitely missing throughout my daughters once in a lifetime memory. I felt like we were more if an intrusion instead of welcomed guests that should've been respected and greeted with smiles instead of sarcasm. We stayed in the Orleans suite. We checked-in with relative ease and the staff was responsive to our needs. Our Suite was in a cottage area separate from the Inn. The suite is a bit outdated and could use some updating. However, the main house is very beautiful. The pool is tiny but they have a hot tub which we found enjoyable. I read reviews prior to booking this establishment and most were good,so maybe we just were unlucky. Our stay was in the New Orleans rm. It was ok except the mini fridge was loud,the bathroom door creaked loudly. The bedroom ceiling had water damage and it needed updating and a thorough cleaning. The hot water took over 10 minutes to get past lukewarm(if they had informed us of that we would have known to wait). The walls were paper thin and a Train blew through town twice in one night..and the conductor laid on the horn to the point it woke me up. To us a B&B should be known for their breakfast--not so much here. It was mediocre at best and was the same both mornings. So we skipped it the second AM when we saw it was the same. We were going to get into the hot tub since we enjoy ours at home but this one had a foul odor. We stayed 2 nights and the owners said maybe 10 words to us and that was mostly at check in. Normally you find maps and fliers of things to do and hosts who show you around and act like they are glad you are there. Not so much--it was like we were an inconvenience. They seemed to be the same way to others staying there from what we saw. For the price we thought we would get a warm welcome and friendliness and a smile.Again one of the reasons you opt for a B&B over a hotel. The main house is pretty and they have many rooms (ours was separate from house in a building with three rooms). This could be a showplace with some effort.Maybe we just caught them on some bad days, but I would hazard to think with a B&B as your livelihood; if you are having a bad day; you should put on your big panties and get happy even if you are faking it...JMO read more

My boyfriend & I were vacationing in the area and came across this place online. The site I viewed it on mentioned nothing about it being a bed & breakfast, only on the historical registry. So we went to view such a beautiful historical place. We were motioned in through a window and as we stepped in, we were in awwww of the beauty until a very southern defined gentleman came from around the corner. I said hello and mentioned we were from out of town and came upon this house on the HR. He said that it was, but it was a B & B. He was more concerned with where I was staying than anything else and I got the feeling we weren't welcome. I found it sort of rude of him to not give us some sort of tour considering it WAS on the HR and not a private home since it was a public B&B. Last year we had visited West Virginia ( Hatfield & McCoy area) and found ourselves in the exact same situation. The lady at that HR home which is also a B&B, gave us the GRAND tour. Because of her hospitality, I'd stay at her B&B if I ever get back there, but NOT at Michabelle's simply due to his "snootiness" and not the fact that he didn't offer us a tour but at least he could have made some excuse for his rudeness. read more

Wife and I decided to take the AMTRAK out of New Orleans on a quick overnight trip. We love B&B's and try to stay in one whenever we travel. This place was a treasured find close to home. Owners Dave and Sondra were super friendly. They offered to pick us up and drop us off at the train station but we rented a car. We stayed in the main house which was beautiful, clean, quiet and had an extremely comfortable king size bed. The WiFi worked great and Keurig was stocked with my favorite Community dark roast. We loved walking the grounds. We stayed in Marie Antoinette room with a large balcony overlooking the front with a beautiful fountain. Breakfast was delicious. We checked out the detached theme rooms that are not part of the main house, they look huge and are very private hidden behind a lush vegetation covered walkway. While the property is in the middle of a nice residential area, once you are onsite you can't tell because the property is surrounded by tall landscaping, makes you feel like you are miles from anyone else. We saw that they have a large event room in the back of the property that they were renovating while we were there. Looks like a awesome place for a wedding. Tried two of the restaurants recommended by the owners 1) The Steakhouse and 2) Tope La and we really enjoyed both. We will definitely be back. read more
