Just one of my experiences in the last 6 months traveling Amtrak.

My departing train was delayed by 12 hours and then a 10 hour train ride to Riverside, Ca took 14 hours. This seems to be a common occurrence with Amtrak these days. My last 3-4 trips from Flagstaff to Riverside have been delayed due to maintenance and staff scheduling issues. Unacceptable. Amtrak is an undependable source of travel.

Didn't have much time to checkout (only a 8 minute stop on the southwest chief coming from Los Angeles to Chicago). Very modern station with indoor waiting. We were more than 3 hours late. Some passengers that we ate with, got off to explore the Grand Canyon for the day. There is a shuttle service that will transport them. They will take the same route the following day to continue to go to Chicago.

Get your kicks on Route 66!!!! The historic station is a local icon. The visitor center wasn't open, but didn't stop us and others from stopping by and getting a picture. Great location to park and access the paved bike/walk trails with local eateries a short walking distance.

Ehh not quite the experience I had in my way up to Flagstaff from Los Angeles. First off the train was 5 hours delayed, yes 5 hours so we boarded at 1:30 am. There was no one to talk to at the office so basically when the train showed up we all rushed to see what options we had. I was put in a seat that did not recline, and clearly had a child airing in as there are crumbs everywhere. I think if the train is coming in late, they should have someone at the station to accommodate and make people feel comfortable. I also think they should be aware of broken seats and cleaning up after passengers.

Right in the middle of town I tried to find the price of a ticket but it wasn't open and I didn't see a schedule the office is inside the visitor center

This historic station is beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful. Unfortunately over half the interior space is taken up by a visitor's center (with a schedule that doesn't match the rest of the station) and a mostly unmanned car rental booth. This leaves very little room inside to wait. There's no coffee, even for the 4:41 am #4 train, no wifi, and few power outlets.

First off, this company does not have an actual "dispatcher". They simply hand a cellphone to whatever driver will be answering their calls that day or night and that is who will be answering their phone calls, WHILE THEY ARE DRIVING regardless if you happen to be in the cab with them at the time or not. This is unsafe to say the least and is also against the law! I have also had drivers smoking, eating, etc. while I was in the back seat with no regard to me whatsoever. At last count this company only has two vehicles and both show obvious signs of previous collisions and both are in sad shape. Secondly, this cab company is the only cab company in Flagstaff that does not use meters in their cabs. I have been charged several different prices for the exact same ride depending on the driver. How do they determine how much they will charge you? I am assuming by how much they think they can get from you. But a more frightening issue is that since COVID-19 has become an issue Top Hat Taxi has not made any changes to the way they still do business. None of their drivers wear masks and regardless of what they may tell you, they do not sanitize their cabs in any way in between fares. You can tell when you sit down in a cab that has been cleaned and a cab that stinks! This cab company also advertises that they are a 24-hour business. Not since COVID-19. Now that the bars in Flagstaff are no longer open the driver on duty will simply turn off their cellphone and go home. I defy anyone to try and reach this company after 9:00pm or so (sometimes even earlier). All you will reach is a voicemail that has not even been set up so you can't even leave them a message. Do yourself a favor if you need a taxi while in Flagstaff; There are numerous other cab companies in Flagstaff to choose from and no matter who you decide to go with any of them will be better than this fly-by-night company.

The ride there was great, semi private and had drinkenu with all these specialty cocktails non alcoholic for the kids. They absolutely loved that. The snacks they advertised were not real snacks I was expecting, it was donut holes, tiny muffins and that was about it. The ride home was also first class but a different car and not anything like our trip there. We were packed with lots of other people, it was pretty dirty and uncomfortable. The person in charge of our car was so much better than on the way but the car was not. No specialty drinks or menu for the kids. They were so disappointed. The snacks were a spread of meats, cheeses, veggies and some bread pretzel bites. So, that was better. The train robbery was kinda silly, aoney grab. They take your photos on the ride there but they lost ours and the price starts at $40 to receive them! For the price, especially upgrading, you think they would give you at least one for free. Anyway, it was a fun experience one time but that's it....a one and done. The hotel was clean and breakfast is included. If we had to pay the receipt said $79 for a family of 4. Very much not worth the price. The fruit looked like it had been frozen and then put out, even the grapes looked old and nasty. Nothing great and you have to wait for a server to order the drinks (coffee, juice, etc). They don't have milk for kids and they expect a tip for literally servicing you juice. Again, a bit silly for a buffet and paying a ton of money. Again, a one and done for us.

COST -- This bus is a FREE shuttle service from the several different locations around the Grand Canyon South Rim. As someone who studied Economics in University, the bus service is really not "free" because you have to pay a national park entrance fee. Lucky for me, I visited the Grand Canyon National Park on National Public Lands day so my admission into the park was free. BUS SCHEDULE -- The bus arrives every 10-15 minutes during the day. NAVIGATION -- First, when you arrive at the Grand Canyon, drive your car to one of the many designated parking spots. Upon parking your car, you will see signs for where to catch the shuttle. The shuttle takes you to several points throughout the Grand Canyon. My friend and I visited the South Kaibab Trail and the shuttle bus took us right to the entrance of the trailhead. We got on the Orange route bus. The ride was smooth and took just under 10 minutes from our starting point. I can't imagine if there were no shuttle buses to drive visitors around because as you know, the Grand Canyon is HUGE. But thank goodness for this free shuttle. If you're lost when you arrive or don't know where a shuttle bus is, there are people around willing to help or I recommend you visit the visitor's center. **** - 155 total reviews in 2019 - 364 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 14 December 2019
