If you don't live in the area, it's very close to the Main Street skytrain station (about a 2 min walk). Pros: - 2 areas specifically for deadlifting - 1 barbell pad (I need this for barbell hip thrust) - beautiful view of False Creek / Science World - new cable machines - there's an assisted pullup machine - spacious stretching area - they have large lockers (the long ones) - there's an ab wheel Cons: - no smith machine (!!!! What???) - no hip abduction machine - only 4 benches. Bonsor is similar in size and has at least 6 - it's a small gym - some asshole didn't put back the weights in one of the deadlifting area (325lbs). No f-in way am I reracking that. - the only extra barbells are the 2 in the deadlifting area. The other 2 are in the squat rack. At Bonsor, they have 6+ extra barbells that's in addition to the ones in the squat racks and bench press. Won't be going here again, not really worth the price of admission.

Also, the folks at Bonsor can be awkward if you're a woman swimming alone. I've also tried Eileen Pool. Ultimately, I settled on this one because it's newer, more spacious, and forced me to get used to practicing in a pool where I can't touch the floor at all. After a few weeks of regular practice here, I'm no longer anxious when I cross the boundary between the shallow and deep ends (at other pools). As a bonus, I haven't had unsolicited creepy comments from anyone here - they seem to be generally respectful. They also have lockers that you don't need to pay for, nor do you need to bring your own lock. My chlorine sensitivity is usually not triggered by the levels at this pool either. They also have a leisure pool but I find it too warm to swim laps. The one thing to keep in mind is to check the timings when they're operating in a 50 m / 25 m configuration - and whether that overlaps with classes.

Perhaps a bit on the smaller side it is still large enough to feel 'lost' in your surroundings. It is free for UBC students or $7 for the general public. I spent about an hour walking around the lake, over all the bridges and most offset paths, whilst stopping several times along the way. I likely won't go again for the price but am glad to have visited. I recommend this as a place for a date, a place to take pictures, or for anyone that is passionate about nature and beautiful gardens.

It makes no sense. There are so many reasons why community centre gyms sucks, besides the reason the steam room doesn't work. I have gym'd all over the world not only in the United States and third world countries like Thailand, Laos, Cambodia. This Trout Lake community centre gym is WAYY too small, it's just one upstairs space. There's a free weight area, 2 smith machines, 4 workout machines, 5 treatmills, 3 elipicticals, 2 rowers. There's an outdoor space where people can do workouts in the fresh air, but have the year you can't use it because rain gets onto it. And of course in Vancouver it rains half a year. There is no vibe here. As you can see in my video, it's dead quiet. You can literally hear ghosts here before hearing people workout. There's no music playing, even elevator music would be better than just silence. Everyone here is on their phone and not putting any energy into working out. I personally try to workout without my phone so I can actually put energy and focus into working out rather than wasting time choosing the next on your playlist. You can pay $7 for a drop in workout, which actually isn't a terrible price. So it's quite affordable, but actually the 50-60/month is totally not worth it when you can go to a different gym like fitness world for half the price. Yea these community centre gyms are incredibly disappointing. Vancouver gets all these tax dollars and this is what they give us back in return. Saddd

The only issue right now is the lack of available parking. There used to be lots of free parking, but now it is a huge construction site. Parking and traffic are awful everywhere along Lonsdale Ave., so you must get creative. It would be helpful to have more handicapped parking spots, but we will have to figure that out.

Most of the time, they are set up for lanes, but at public swim times, the waterslide and diving boards are opened up. There is also a nice big hot tub to relax in - although I've always been horrified by the many "No shaving" signs that dot the area. No running, no horseplay, but shaving? Who exactly is shaving in the hot tub? Some things are best left a mystery. I also like the authentic wooden sauna here, although it is kind of small. The best time to go is during one of the dollar swim or dollar skate sessions, although as you might expect, these are the busy times. But not too too busy, and probably the best little fitness deal in the city. (Harry Jerome is just near the top of the Upper Levels highway in North Van, so rather close, actually, for you brave bridge crossers.)

If you actually lift bro, you won't last in this gym. It totally makes sense why you can only book 1 hour and max of 20 people, because if there were 20 people in there, there would be no space left to workout, it's really that small. There's no equipment in this gym, it gives you the bare basic amount of gym equipment to call it a gym, there's like 5 treadmills, 1 stairmaster, a couple bo-flex apparatuses. There's some free weights and some squat racks. But yea this gym is pretty bad in terms of what you have to workout with. If you pay for a community center membership for about $500 a year, you would be bored within a month due to the lack of size lack of equipment. I came without my phone because being on your phone is a huge distraction at the gym, even having ear pods in, you're not gonna totally focus on your workout. Kind of a bad idea because there is NO music whatsoever here. It's deadly quiet. Even the people that lift, the noises of people exercising is quiet, top 5 quietest gyms. Being new to Vancouver, I liked the thought of a "community center" where ppl in the community can get ripped together, but there is none of that in this gym. Definitely a 1 star gym, gonna give it a 2 star reviews, because the center probably does good things for the community, the staff here is friendly, I saw some kids workin out downstairs. There's soft mats, jumbo building blocks, feet peddle cars, slides, see-saws and even little picnic tables for snacks. It's only $3 per child and you can let your little one run wild! Well, please make sure to keep an eye on them as well, but this is a wonderful space to let your little one burn off some energy as well as have fun.

So, not a tiny intimate wedding celebration but not a super large one either compared to pretty much most other weddings I've been to in my life which probably had 2 - 3 times as many tables in the room. There was a 6pm reception and then dinner at 7pm. At the reception, servers were walking around handing out hors d'oeuvres to the guests. Service was kinda "meh." We were standing around in a corner and saw one of the servers walk up to some other people and serve them some hors d'oeuvres, inches away from us but then they turned and walked off in another direction without actually approaching our own group to offer us some hors d'oeuvres. That was kinda weird. I ended up wandering off into the dining room and grabbing an hors d'oeuvres for myself when I saw another server with a different tray of hors d'oeuvres on it. Other than the one server who spun on their heels without offering anything to us, service from everyone else was pretty decent. I think there were about 4 different hors d'oeuvres. Two of them had meat in them so I couldn't eat those. The other two had seafood in them, which I still eat being pescatarian so I was able to enjoy those. One was a prawn tempura and the other was a crab cake. Loved the crab cake! The bar had 4 different Mocktails available. My daughter and I both ordered something called a Stingray which consisted of pineapple juice, orange juice and soda. It wasn't bad but we both decided that we prefer the taste of a Shirley Temple over a Stingray. Dinner was buffet style. Lots of different options for various dietary restrictions. The food was very good. Especially the Sablefish. Oh wow...soooo tender. I couldn't resist going back for seconds!
