Not too far from the Utah Cultural Center, you'll find the Pioneer Crossing Regional Park-a modest…read morepark with a playground, restrooms and walking trail. I'll admit, it's not the most beautiful park in the valley, but as I do, I found some good in it regardless. The playground is located right next to the parking lot and there are a few trees that surround it. Depending on the time of day, you might find yourself in a bit of shade. The restrooms are right there, too, although they were locked when I visited around 5pm on a Monday afternoon. The Jordan River Trail walkway goes through this park, so there are marked paths for walking, jogging or biking. Some parts are shaded, but most of the path is not. There also appears to have been a fire at some point (controlled? I'm unsure) and there's a lot of charred vegetation that remains. There's a wobbly suspension bridge that takes you over the river. It's not too big, but if you're nervous about rickety bridges over water, maybe pick a different path.

This new Regional Park held a "grand opening" in June 2023, unveiling a huge grassy field, multiple jungle gyms, a basketball court, a Pavillion you may rent, and a restroom facility. Nestled in a residential area, there's sweeping views of mountains all around. Don't even worry about parking....there's LOTS of parking, at least three different lots all around this majestic park. I didn't see any EV chargers though. Maybe those will arrive in future phases? I mean, there's LOTS of space for solar panels and it is blazing with sun.... According to their website, Phase 1 was a $18 million investment from a handful of different organizations. Now, 160 acres is a lot of grass and plants...where is the water coming from to maintain this greenery?

I debated on sharing this spot because it is such a hidden gem and it's not crowded like Liberty…read morepark. However, I think more people need to see the beauty of this park. It is absolutely stunning. You can see from North Salt Lake to almost Eagle Mountain. My favorite time to go is about 30 minutes before sunset just because the views of the sun setting in the west with the city in the foreground...that's a sight to see. There's a walking area that brushes the perimeter of the park as well...or I guess you can run if that's your thing. There's a nice little playground for the kiddos and a paved basketball court as well! When I visit here, I also see people pitch up a hammock...which this is a great spot to do it because there's lots of trees and they're spaced out perfectly for a hammock! There's also a nice little open area for soccer or whatever else you are feeling that day! Parking is super convenient; I've never had an issue with it! You are able to park on the south or north side of the park! I recommend going to the northeast side of the park as that is where you will see arguably the best view in the entire city!

There's something magical and serene about finding a puddle of mud and playing in it. Even as…read moreadults, it's still appealing, so there's no surprise to me that I found about 15 adults soaking in the natural hot spring, or puddle of mud, found at Inlet Park. As I understand, the hot springs are on private property, but the owner is ok with people visiting as long as they are respectful of the land and get out at 10pm. You park in the parking lot and then walk a few minutes through the trees until you get to the hot springs. There are some areas that are hotter than others and when you find the "hot spots" it's fun to sink your feet and legs into the pit. It's as close to quicksand than I've ever experienced.

I noticed wheelchair ramps, modified swings and playground facilities that anyone could use. From their website, the old playground was "loved to death." What a great thing! So the new one was constructed with EVERYONE in mind. Wood chips are gone and replaced with a rubberized soft play surface. There are plenty of slides, swings and things to climb on. There are also a bunch of areas that are covered by canopy-like things, providing shade cover. Parking is still a little iffy-the road is one-way and depending on where you enter the park, you may have to drive the entire loop before you get to the playground. But it's worth the drive. While you're there, be sure to check out the library and take a walk around the park-there's plenty of space to roam!

Labrum Memorial Park is a beautiful city park in Taylorsville, just off I-215. The park has a…read moremodern playground, including various obstacles, slides, and swings for children of all ages. It also features a picnic pavilion with several picnic tables and a restroom adjacent. There is a walking path surrounding the park's sizable lawn area, which is 1/2 mile in total distance. The park has fantastic views of the Wasatch Mountains. My boys and I visit regularly and have found that the park is typically clean and well-maintained.

There are quite a few trails and pathways that lead to the north side of Utah lake and I've seen people frequent them. I wouldn't recommend the pond for swimming , but it's great for some casual fishing and watching ducks swim around. There are lots of shaded bench areas as well and also areas I've seen people set up hammocks to relax. Quite easy to get to and free street parking. A nice little getaway from the hustle and bustle of Saratoga, Lehi and American Fork.

For the uninitiated, Millcreek Canyon has a bunch of picnic areas all up and down the canyon. Many of them are first come, first served and would make an incredible afternoon or evening. Seriously--you can leave work, grab a sandwich, at your favorite place, and be up the canyon eating it and it all takes less than 30. However, there are a few of the picnic areas that have reservable spots for larger groups. That's also the case with South Box Elder. There's one group site here, the Edmund Ellsworth Group Site, that can be booked ahead of time. It seats about 25 and has a fire pit, two metal stands, a metal BBQ grill stand, a thin and tall food table, and sits right next to the (pit) bathrooms. Besides the Edmund Ellsworth area, there's also a few other spots in this picnic area. It's a small area, and each one has its own fire pit and picnic table, but they may only fit a dozen or so people. There's a small parking area inside of here, but you can also park across the street. This area is also home to the north terminus of the Desolation Trail, and you'll see a lot of people come in and out hiking the Salt Lake Overlook portion of that trail. To reach it, drive up Millcreek Canyon and go past all of the Boy Scout properties and it will be the first picnic spot you come to after Millcreek Inn. The first sign you will see will be the Desolation Trail sign, and then the sign for the South Box Elder Picnic Area.
