Good gelato. The server was a little bit robotic which is funny. Not that much people in the morning; can pick as many flavors as you want

4.5 star My friend and I came in on a Thursday night, and it wasn't as busy (got very busy after we left). I got the classic cup with 2 flavors: vanilla & stracciatella. My friends got yogurt, coconut, and strawberry but yogurt was definitely the highlight. I personally liked the vanilla as it wasn't too sweet. Stracciatella was great too--I loved the pieces of dark chocolate. I honestly should've gotten more flavors to try, but I was maybe overwhelmed with so many different options (a positive thing). There were a few seating areas which is nice for chatting. Would definitely come back to try more flavors!

Went here on a hot evening in San Francisco which is super rare, such a nice cool treat!! Not only did they make each come an adorable little flower, but it was absolutely delicious! I will say because of the scooping technique the line backs up pretty quickly, but we were out for a fun girls evening so I didn't mind the wait. I would definitely go back again!

On a hunt for a sweet treat, and Amorino was around the corner from us, and we decided to give it a try despite it being a rainy day in San Francisco. We got here at around 6:45, and there was no line. I decided to get the chocolate hazelnut gelato with a waffle cone, and they served it as a cute flower! The gelato was well balanced, and tasted like nutella. It was unsettling quiet inside the shop, so it felt a bit awkward being the only people eating inside, but definitely a great spot to check out if you're looking for a sweet treat that's open late in downtown SF

It's cold outside and besides hello and maroons, they have Hot Chocolate! The chocolate gelato is dark, rich and creamy. Paired with blueberry cheesecake, we have fruity tart and semi-sweet! Good service with seating inside.

Absolutely delicious and great customer service. The spell of the fresh espresso was enticing. 10/10 Would definitely recommend.

Close to union square, so parking can be a challenge depending on when you go. We walked up fairly late on a weeknight and it was nearly zero wait time. I will say the caveat to that is they had already ran out of multiple flavors. Even so, they have SO many flavors there was still a large variety to choose from. I was in the mood for something lighter and refreshing so I elected to go for the sorbettos. I really appreciate that they do not limit how many flavors you can have by the size you select. They have multiple options for sizing on cups and cones which is v v nice. Downside may be that they are on the pricier side, again being located in union square, this is understandable. I ultimately got 3 flavors : mango, raspberry, and blood orange. They were all delightful and very true to flavor. Think eating a smooth frozen version of the exact fruit. Blood orange was my favorite - highly recommend giving it a try if you're a citrus + dessert fan. It is a fairly small shop but there is a small seating area in the back of the store. They also have a table out front if you wish to hang and finish your treat al fresco.

I use to go to the Amorino all the time in Beverly Hills when I lived in SoCal and also to the one at the Livermore outlets. Sadly, the outlets location closed down. But luckily, I still can get my fix of Amorino right in the heart of San Francisco, just steps away from the Chinatown Grant entrance. My favorite flavor is the yogurt gelato and it is perfectly tart and creamy. Sometimes I would get that flavor by itself or combined with strawberry which makes a lovely strawberry yogurt flavor. There was one time that the yogurt flavor tasted very off, like super sour and maybe spoiled. Always, always, always sample the flavors first before you make your selection. I wouldn't want anyone stuck with a flavor they don't like or with something tasted spoiled. Luckily, on my most recent visit, the yogurt was perfect and it is the main reason I come back. Staff is fine at this location. They always seem to be on their phone and whenever they make the roses, it is somewhat sloppy. Service is fine and not like it use to be. I just get my gelato and head out and walk around. Other top notch flavors I love are the strawberry, mango, caramel and pistachio.

Service: Friendly service! Server gave us an extra pear and hibiscus macaron on the house! Ambiance: a decent amount of seating in the back to hang out and enjoy your gelato Nomz: I had the pistachio and stracciatella gelato. I felt that their gelato was a little tooo creamy and sweet for my personal preference, and the pistachio in particular got to be a little overwhelming after towards the end but I loved the stracciatella! Macarons were so yummy I had their seasonal pear and hibiscus which was my fav, pistachio, and lychee raspberry. Keep in mind their fillings are gelato so it'll melt! Would like to try their sorbets next time

Admittedly... Could not resist getting a scoop... After seeing them on the SF Pikmin mini walk this month... I am but a victim to marketing L'INIMITABILE (small scoop, cup): Soooo silky and decadent. Incredible texture and flavor. But heavy. One cup was enough for me! But I was indeed tempted by their pretty flower presentation My friend had two fruit flavors which I promptly demanded to try LOL. AMAZING. So good. This chain is nationwide. Now I know.

Having been to multiple other Amorino locations before, I was less impressed with this one in particular. The rose shaped gelato in a cone is their trademark but we were not asked if we wanted a cone or dish upon ordering so we ended up with a dish of gelato, where it was sloppily smashed into the cup. The cones in front of us weren't nicely crafted as I was used to seeing at other Amorino locations either but it at least resembled a flower. Customer service was non-existent or rushed at best and it wasn't even that busy. Flavors of gelato were less than impressive as well. Not really worth going out of your way for. Overall, a disappointing experience, as we were looking forward to the same Amorino /gelato experience we were fortunate to have in other countries.

The gelato here was good, but it was a lot to finish honestly. I got their raspberry sorbet, the crème de Leche (forgive me if it's spelled wrong) and Stracciatella. Also they don't let you taste until you order, which was a first for me because all other places let you taste min 2 flavour before you give an order.

    Tiramisu (left) and Pistachio (right)
    Jacqueline Z.

Came here on a Monday evening for a post-dinner dessert. It wasn't busy and there were plenty of places to sit (with outlets). I decided to play it safe and got a small cup with tiramisu and pistachio. The portion size is great, as they really do pack the cup with a lot of gelato. The texture of the gelato was soft and creamy, which was good. However, the flavors were a huge miss. I wish I sampled them before choosing but usually places don't do tiramisu and pistachio wrong. The tiramisu was way too sweet. The pistachio... didn't really taste like pistachio? I'm not really sure how to describe what it tasted like... I did like that they had actual pistachios as toppings in the gelato though.

Without a doubt, we knew we'd be getting an authentic dessert!! Dropped in at 9:30pm on a Friday night, and felt like we stumbled into a magical little corner of Valencia. The gelato here is whipped up in these futuristic spinning machines with bubble lids; they almost look like washing machines. Absolutely whimsical. The flavors are expansive and fresh; the strawberry was excellent, though the Greek yogurt was our surprising favorite. There were so many unique and intriguing flavors (from orange and cinnamon to strawberry balsamic), we'll absolutely have to stop by again. The real charm of this place comes from the story; we read about it while waiting in line and were absolutely captivated by the story of love, community, and heritage that shapes Hila. It's well worth a read, and honestly sold us on the shop (although the gelato definitely still carries its own!). The story of Hila breathing life back into an old parlor is absolutely heartwarming. I wish nothing but much success for the future of Hila.

I was urged to hold my nose and try it by someone I generally trust, because they raved about this place. The biggest offense was the misleading description on the Doordash menu, but Google's info has the same impression as well--that is, it claims to be "topped" with corn flakes. TOPPED!! Not middled, not bottomed, not everywhered. I don't particularly care for bread product in my ice cream or gelato because it just gets mushy..and boy were these corn flakes ever mushy. Its such a gross texture. I was desparate for chocolate hazelnut. Desserts given bready garnishings isn't unususal, Super Duper does it with their shakes. As a topping I figured it would be easy to shovel off...wrong. What I paid $27 for is a gigantic wad of mushy corn flakes with chocolate drizzled through the cracks and I can't for the life of me taste any hazelnut. This was disgusting. I am extremely disappointed. A pint of corn flakes costs what, $0.50? I was ripped off...enjoy the profit margin. I'm no stranger to gelato. I've been to Italy several times and not American tourist areas but hometowns of long-time Italian friends: Poggiardo, Lecce, Castro Marina & Castro Alta, Galatina, Otranto. I've made gelato there myself. I worked in a gelateria that's actually managed to stay alive in the Bay Area for 20 years, Gelateria Naia. WhileI don't go to new places with expectations of what I had somewhere else, I do appreciate a balance of value and quality. I was left feeling so far from either in my first experience with Hila's gelato that it's the first time in probably a couple years that I couldn't stop a bad purchase from ruining my night. It really came down to the price tag for delivery: $27 for a pint! And not a single spoonful worth ingesting. How do I ever give this a try again? I don't see how it's possible. I just wanted something I could eat and then tell my friend (who recommended this place enthusiastically) it was worth the money or not. I couldn't eat this. Every spoonful was a huge glob of mushy cereal.

Located directly at the corner of Union St/Buchanan St in the heart of the Marina, this wildly popular place that is owned and operated by Italians has been in operation dating back to early-2018. The hours of operation here are quite generous as they're open daily from 10:30am-9:30pm with extended hours until 10:30pm on Friday & Saturday. The interior layout is small yet big enough to showcase several items for purchase; whole & ground coffee, jams, spreads, snacks, and even pasta sauces. And if gelato isn't your thing, they also have quite a bit of Italian cookies and desserts for purchase. Finally, if you wish to enjoy your gelato before it melts, they also offer a couple of small tables & chairs inside as well as one public restroom. Now onto the gelato itself! Much of their gelato is dairy-free & vegan plant-based with some of their gelato offering the addition of sugar, water and/or milk. They offer 4 different sizes (kids, small, medium, large) in either a cup or cone. And if you're thinking outside of the box, they also have a nice variety of espresso drinks as well as fresh pastries that are baked daily. Since I wasn't too hungry (after a big dinner), I went with a kids size cone of their "Italian Crema". This was a rich, velvety texture of creamy deliciousness. And since it was considering a 'kids' size, I didn't feel too guilty enjoying this. I will say that the customer service here was top notch as the employees allowed me to sample a few gelatos prior to narrowing down my selection. The prices are also quite reasonable as they are lower than some of the other places in San Francisco as well as gelato spots I've been to in Los Angeles and New York. With a charming interior setup, prime location, and delicious gelatos, I am giving "GIO Gelati" a perfect five-star rating.
