I have finally made my way to King Umberto's after all this time. This is part of the trifecta that…read morebrought the grandma pizza to the masses, that being Umberto's, King Umberto's, and Da Angelo's. And with this visit, I have visited all three. With that out of the way, let's get to what I got at this pizzeria. Since I had just come from Dario's, I decided that one slice would be good to get a feel of what KU offers. First off, the ambiance and look of the pizzeria is my favorite of the trifecta and the customer service is fantastic. I got the white slice and on the whole, it was heated to perfection, had a wonderful balance of mozzarella, ricotta and basil. Anywho, the taste of the slice was fantastic and I think this outclasses Umberto's and Da Angelo's white pies by a long shot. The display case had a great selection of wonderfully made pizza and other items for takeout. If you come here, you need to try their grandma pie as that it's claim to fame (I wish I could have it, but damn gastritis! ) I met Giovanni, one of the owners and he was friendly and loves having conversations with his customers and hope to meet him again. This has easily become one of my top favorite pizzerias on Long Island and will make the trek again, this time with my family in tow. Cheers!

**Toskana Pizzeria -- grandma pie excellence, plus legit Neapolitan and Sicilian**…read more Toskana Pizzeria is one of the few neighborhood spots that can pull off *multiple* pizza styles without any of them feeling like an afterthought. If you're the type who actually notices crust structure, bake quality, and balance--not just "is there cheese on it?"--this place earns the five stars. **Grandma pie (the headline act):** This is the standard. The crust has real integrity--crisp edges, that satisfying caramelized corner bite, and a base that stays structured instead of collapsing into a soggy regret. The sauce tastes clean and well-seasoned (not overly sweet), and the cheese-to-sauce ratio is dialed in so each layer is doing its job. **Thin-crust Neapolitan:** Excellent bake and flavor. You get that lighter, more delicate feel with a proper chew, and the toppings don't overwhelm the dough. It's the kind of pizza that tastes "simple" in the good way--because the fundamentals are right. **Sicilian:** A lot of places treat Sicilian like a dense bread block with toppings. Not here. Their Sicilian is actually well-made--airy enough to enjoy, sturdy enough to satisfy, and baked so it has texture instead of being a soft slab. The common thread is consistency: everything feels deliberate, properly baked, and balanced. If you live in the area and you're not ordering from Toskana, you're basically choosing to make your life harder for no reason. Five stars.

Toskana is really close by and after seeing Dave Portnoy's review, I decided to check it out…read more Plain slice: Really solid. Nice cheese pull, good balance of sauce, and probably my favorite of the bunch. It held up well, not floppy at all, with a slight crisp on the bottom. BIG FAN! Chicken broccoli: Just OK. I've had better. The chicken was slightly burnt, which was disappointing. Grandma spinach & artichoke: Pretty good overall. It's similar in style to Artichoke Basille's Pizza, but not as rich or creamy. Margherita: Underwhelming. Nothing really stood out and I've definitely had better elsewhere. That said, I'd still go back just for the plain slice. You really can't go wrong with it. It's a thumbs up for me!

PICK UP REVIEW Like…read moreother reviews have said, the inside of the place is very pub-like which makes it cozy to sit in. We didn't eat there but did notice the vibe. We weren't sure if the flat crust was the "bar style" or their regular style pizza but we ordered the large and it came with that very thin crust that you see in other people's photos. I looked at their menu again and it said the bar size was a 10" so I'm assuming the pizza style is just their style. NO GUILT PIZZA: This isn't your traditional New York slice so if that's what you're looking for I'd say try another spot. Their pizza is different in that it's a very flat thin crust kind of like water crackers you eat with cheese. Then it's got a thin layer of sauce and average amount of cheese. I did find myself putting a decent amount of garlic powder and oregano on it for more flavor and I don't usually add garlic order to my pizzas. I do wish there was a tad more sauce too. It states on the menu that all their products use part skim mozzarella and ricotta so there weren't any issues with overly oily pizza. Actually, according to the menu the 10" bar pizza is only 270 calories. We didn't stay but we had no issues with the service when we called for pickup and no issues actually picking up. Personally growing up in the standard NY Slice, this want quite my...slice of pie *wince* so 3.5/5 is my rating for this spot, 3 for the pie, 4 for the ambiance/service...But if you're looking for something lighter without the guilt I'd call this a good alternative.
