I can't believe I'm giving this place 3 stars. We are from Chicago and when I told my kids we're going to Michigan, they all said we have to go to Amoo Sami. Everyone hyped up this place and I guess the standards were very high. The sandwich is good, but the garlic sauce is soooo disappointing. No flavor, no garlic smell, nothing. That really ruined it for me. The oil they fried the sandwich with is old tasting. You know when you over fry oil? Well, that flavor was into my sandwich. Places like this become so popular, they forget to watch out for quality. I will give it to them that the sandwich was good, but nothing special. I think everything is lacking that special flavor, pizzaz. I will note my kids loved it. So maybe I'm picky, but really I'm not. ok... so i am a foodie like prob most of u reading this. And this is just my honest opinion. this place has been blowing up my Instagram so I thought I'd give it a shot. I stopped in to the BP gas station at 15 and mound and it was closed so I was bummed for a short moment until the gas station attendant told me there was another one down the street at 11 mile and mound which was open so the roller coaster began and my elation was back up Rolled into the next BP gas station, where to my delight there was a large sign that said Amo sami's Shawarma Long story short I ordered and about 20 minutes later my food was ready, and I went out to my car with great expectations First bite... Wow, there's no flavor and it taste burnt, but it looked really good so I kept on eating and it never got better just continued in a downward spiral like a Nine Inch Nails album. My tongue hates me Absolutely no flavor at all other than burnt tortilla and overheated oil This was the furthest thing from Shawarma. I have ever had ended up discarding the last few bites as I did give it a chance and tried to eat the whole thing, but it was absolutely disgusting. No garlic flavor no seasoning flavor to speak of at all I mean, give it a shot. I'm not telling you not to eat it as their Instagram campaign was very inviting. I had just left church and we had communion and the communion wafer was 10 times more flavorful Kind of upset that I paid almost $20 (including tip) for a single Shawarma wrap so unfortunately I cannot recommend. I am shocked to be giving this place a 3, after all the amazing social media reviews, but I honestly can't give it more than that. We traveled a bit to get here (it's in a gas station), because we wanted to see what people were raving about. The gentleman at front was very nice. We ordered and they told us we would get a text when it was ready, which we did. It took awhile, which is fine, but there is really no place to wait, so we waited in the car. The sandwiches were okay... we tried the meat and chicken, and both were okay. Nothing I would crave or go back for. The chicken was better than the beef. The beef was very chewy. For the price, I didn't think the quality was there at all. The sandwiches are big though. With so many options on that side of town, we can't see ourselves going back again. read more

Honestly, I have had a lot of shawarma and this didn't really stick out to me. What did stick out to me was their amazing customer service. This review is primarily based on the taste of food. Toom was good but was missing the acidity. Chicken was well seasoned but somehow lacked the classic shawarma flavor. Pickles were not good at all. Please choose a different pickle. Did not taste any of the pomegranate molasses. This is a very mid shawarma. You can definitely get a better option in metro Detroit or Dearborn. read more

Okay, backstory is i saw this place pop up on Facebook and I live in Grayling Michigan. The food here isnt worth bragging about unless you cook it at home for yourself. My wife and I are accustomed to taking a trip to enjoy good food. I had a long weekend and said lets do this. 196 miles to get there in snowy conditions. No big deal I can drive in snow, it is Michigan of course. The same chicken shawarma was excellent. 10/10 fresh, hot, chicken was sealed well and tender. The salad was just a salad to me but the wife enjoyed it very much. The only thing I didnt realize was it was inside a gas station. Being ive done a bit of traveling it didnt detour me. I look forward to the next time I find myself in that area. It will definitely be a stop I make again. read more

Beef Shwarma Sami & Chicken Shwarma Sami... don't pass on either.. Might be one of my ultimate favorite shawrmas yet. All sandwiches we had were amazing, closest to back home flavor as it could get. The shawarma was good, bigger than most places, but after all the hype I saw on TikTok, maybe I was expecting too much. I liked the crisp wrap, but I ordered extra garlic sauce and pickles and there wasn't much of either on mine. I was also disappointed to find the chicken a bit dry and lacking flavor. I've been to Amo Sammi's twice now, and both visits have been absolutely outstanding. On my first trip, I ordered the Beef Shawarma Sammie and it was hands down the best shawarma I'd ever had. That remained true... until today. Today I went with the Sujuk Sammie and I'm running out of superlatives. Simply incredible. Every single bite is packed with flavor. They brush the pita with marinade before grilling it, giving it this absolutely perfect texture and an unreal depth of flavor that I've never experienced anywhere else. I'm fully convinced that every other shawarma spot in Michigan is now competing for second place. Now, here's the thing: Amo Sammi's is located in a BP gas station. Do NOT let that deter you. Honestly, it just adds to the magic that something this otherworldly good can come from a literal hole in the wall in the back of a gas station. The service is fantastic too. I've chatted with the manager on both visits and he's super cool - genuinely eager to make sure you're happy with your order and clearly proud of what they're serving. Holy cow! I'm not sure what they coat the outside of their pitas with, but it's awesome. I needed to get some lunch and this is in the area, so I ran over. It's a small counter in the back of the BP station, so you can get some snacks while you're waiting. I got a chicken shawarma wrap, the meat is tender and good Persian pickles and toum. But the outside is the star of the show. It seems like it's dipped in something and some herbs, grilled, and it's out of this world. I will definitely be back and may try some other options (or maybe not). read more

I ordered online to avoid the long wait times I'd heard about and that's the way to go if you can. I ordered the chicken Shawarma and customized it with all the goodies I like. Pickled turnips, lettuce, onions, extra crispy. When I got back to my car I couldn't wait to tear into it. It was so flavorful! Every bite was a perfect marriage of all the ingredients. My favorite is the chicken shawarma, make sure to order it Sami's style, it has sooo much flavor and is the best shawarma you'll ever try. I told my friend about it too and she's obsessed as well! I've stopped here about a dozen times and no question, the food is good. 5 stars for the food. The problem is the posted morning hours of 7:00 AM is a misnomer. I've stopped here several times between 7 and 7:30 AM and the lights are out and no food in the case. I've been able to get something at 8:00 AM but often walked out without anything prior. If you've had one chicken shawarma sandwich, you've had em all, right? Wrong. I saw some posts on Instagram for Sami's food truck in Wayne and it looked too good to not give it a try. It's up there with the best I've ever had. It starts right from the first taste of the grilled spiced wrap - before you even get into the guts of the sandwich. The char on the wrap sets it apart from any other shawarma wrap I've ever had. That's not to discredit the guts, cuz they're delicious too. I'd like to say that I'll try the rest of the menu, but I don't wanna lie because that was too good to not get every other time I go there. It will now be part of my regular restaurant rotation.
