I went today to buy the meat and I told them to don't give me bones. I didn't check the meat bag in the shop cause I thought we are Muslims and a Muslim brother Would never lie to a Muslim sister. whatever they gave me I accepted but when I got home I opened my meat bag and was full of bones. We happened to drop into this market when visiting the ice cream shop next door. It was clean, organized, and the gentleman who worked there was extremely nice and welcoming. His father owns the market and we chatted about Turkey and the wonderful food/culture. He told us 90% of their inventory is imported straight from Turkey, which is really cool. Will definitely go back for meats and groceries in the future. read more

This is a very nice place if you like Middle Eastern food, they're frozen section is phenomenal, the prices are OK, maybe on the pricey side, however, compared to good Middle Eastern restaurant, you can get a perfect and well-made Middle Eastern meal for half the price. Mash'allah! A cute little Turkish grocery store. You'll find halal meet - hamdulila - cheeses of all kind, thousands of spices, olives, jams, teas, cookies & crackers, kunafe, and baklava. Amongst many other delicious things. And... would you know it, they have MOLOKHEYA! Molokheya, however you want to spell it, is something unique and hard to find around these parts... you almost have to drag an Egyptian mother over from Cairo to get that green-oily-rice dish laced with meat and sauce on your plate. But they've got it at Amity. Granted, it comes in a big can... so it's not homemade, but close enough. Authentic, great for cooking if you need hard-to-find Middle East ingredients. read more

Very awesome place that takes me back to being in Turkey everytime I step foot inside. My mom's been going here for years and buys our meat, olives, spices, Turkish snacks from here and everything is always fresh. I always come to this store for the lamb chops....they have also great cuts of meat. If you call ahead of time, they get the meat ready for you. They have really great sheep cheese and kalamata olives. read more

The meat is good most of the time, however, we had to throw away 5 pounds of ground meat as it had too much connective tissues and tendon. When i talked to the owner about it he became very defensive and rude. The staff is also not very friendly. read more

One of my favorite small markets in the area. They have a wide range of products and their service is great despite there only ever being a few people working at a time. The store is very well organized and clean, and it is such a better shopping experience than a large grocer. The only complaint I have is that sometimes they don't stock the same products. If you see something you want, stock up on it because it might not be there at the time you return. The prices are incredible for the food. read more

I am very critical when it comes to the quality of food at restaurants and grocery stores. I have also been cooking for 30 years. I like to experiment with ethnic recipes. I never had any Turkish food until I wandered into this store a month ago. I was confused by the huge variety of things I had never seen before. The owner offered to select things for me that he personally liked and used. When I got home and tasted the food I realized I had not made a mistake. Most of the things were delicious and I have been back several times to try different things and buy more of my favorites. I will list a few of the things that I like the most and why: -Roya brand Turkish delight: This is not like others I have tried which were too sweet tasteless goo. This is mildly sweet and full of the taste of the fresh roasted nuts that fill the center. -Tamek brand sour cherry nectar: A canned drink that tastes like fresh cherries. Nothing like it in the USA. -Sucuk: This is a dried beef sausage that is commonly fried and mixed with scrambled eggs for breakfast in Turkey. I eat it all the time now, the combination of flavors is superb. -Anatolian pine honey. It doesn't taste of pine to me, but it has a rich, intense flavor unique and perfect mixed with kamak. -Kamak: like clotted cream, too good, too rich. -I can't remember the name, but the sheep's cheese that I bought from the deli case was very flavorful and not expensive. Too many to list. Get your ass down there. They give samples. The prices are good. Go. read more

My parents always shop here for our daily Turkish meals at home, rather then that I come in with my friends and grab a cold Turkish drink and my favorite snacks. Its always clean and prices are affordable, definitely recommend this store to anyone out there that hasn't tried it. read more

Owner always tries to find best quality stuff for his customers. If you looking for good quality Turkish and Mediterranean food you should go there check it out. I have waist so much money on that pathetic and dirty smelly store that I would wanna spit at it every time I walk pass by it. Even if you compare the meat price between Amity and Halal market you'll realize how fair the price of Amity is & how rip off Halal market is of course with it's old fart cashiers who have attitude problem.. It is no longer a STRANGE PLACE TO ME!! I was on a business trip from Detroit to DC area. as I was walking out to discover some new places from my hotel on Rt 123 and Lee hwy in Fairfax VA. I discovered this place called AMITY. ( Took my attention from the name AMITY) as i walked in it seemed little strange to me but also exiting. I wanted to know what is this place about. yes it was a grocery store but what was the differences from the stores we shop all the time such as walmart, Safeways etc. the person behind the counter asked if i need any help so politely. it was totally new to me. i felt a very close friendship like their name AMITY.. the place was super clean, organized and smelled very nice unlike the other big stores. As i walked around i realized this was a store sold mostly Turkish products. Hmmm i smiled:)) i was just in Turkey not to long ago.. I purchased lots of nice genuine cookies from land of Turkey who brought all the way to DC... I wish I could buy some of their well looking meats too but it was not possible since i was to far to my hometown. But could not resist longer from purchasing some SUCUKS and Baklava (not sure if i spelled correct) .. After then AMiTY always became my Second STOP on my DC trips... Went there 2 times and got very disappointed! All of their stuff is old and disgusting, never have anything fresh. I bought a pishmaniye once (which is supposed to be super soft) it was sooo hard and old was about to break my teeth! Their bread is always old. YET THEIR STUFF IS VERY VERY EXPENSIVE!!! read more

I heard nice things about this place and had bought beef from them. I was impressed with the quality. I thought it was a cute store, and the people who work there are polite. So I held back from giving them the lowest score, but after what I just bought, I am being generous to give them 2 stars. So I thought, hey, let me purchase some chicken from them, they are tidy and seem to know what they are doing. BIG MISTAKE !!!!! I called in, and in a stupid act of trust, I ordered 5 chickens. When I got to the store, I was very surprised to find that each chicken was weighed at well over 5 lbs. OK I thought, maybe these are really chunky chickens. Usually small turkeys are that heavy. I paid and I went home to open them up and re-pack them in freezer bags and put them away. To my horror, what I saw in those plastic bags more than angered me. In my phone order, I asked them to clean it up and remove the skin. Now this should be basic, no explanation should be needed, I mean, these guys are experienced and should know what they are doing yeah? Not ! Many pieces had skin on it and they did not have the decency to clean it of fat. There were huge chunks of fat still on the chicken pieces. There were organs still attached to the bone ! A liver here, something else stuck on the inside of the rib cage. Sick ! Now I know why it weighed almost 5lbs ! When I had asked them to clean the chicken pieces....did they think I meant "rinse" it in water? The worst part was that it looked like it had been cut by a blind man. These guys have no idea how to cut pieces of chicken. They cut the breast piece with the wing in such a way, you can not discern them from one another. Another piece was the neck attached to the breast bone, and the meaty part of the breast piece was attached to something else. Not one piece was recognizable as a thigh, or breast or wing, and almost every piece but the leg was cut haphazardly, and it was sloppy. There were also slivers of bone shards in the peices - can you imagine feeding it to your kids or to guest ? Every butcher should know the appropriate way to cut up pieces of a whole chicken so that it can be presentable when cooked. Do these guys think that most people are nomads that cook all their chicken in a cauldron ? I had to spend 3 hours CLEANING it, and I ended up throwing away many peices that were mostly odd cuts of bone with irregular quantities of meat on it. I am disgusted that I spent so much money. Shame on them for advertising that they "hand cut" thier meat products. It was a sloppy, and incredibly shoddy job, and they need to hire a REAL butcher. NEVER ever ever again. read more

Two stars for the neatness of the store.Unlike other meat grocery stores,place is clean and neat.I went there at 10:30 am on Sunday Morning to order two chicken.Butcher brought two chicken and weighted them.he asked me are you sure u want two? When I looked the price of them was close to $20.I said one is fine, the he said that's why I asked are you sure... He cut the chicken and gave it back to me. I saw that they were selling organic chicken and I asked him about the cost.He replied that it's too expensive.No wonder, the shop is empty.After reaching home, when I checked I found that chicken was neither clean nor cut properly as I asked..Not going again..... read more
