Ate there for dinner a couple of nights ago with my family. I made it very clear I can't handle spicy food. Ordered grilled fish tacos, started to get rid of anything spicy & I asked if I should just get something else as I knew I wouldn't enjoy the meal & get my money's worth. My meal came and the fish was under cooked, the coleslaw was extremely spicy and my husband couldn't even eat it. I would have thought the waitress would of had the kitchen substitute a regular salad. Needless to say we left disappointed and very hungry. My daughter said her meal was very peppery. Highly recommend! They have so many options on their menu and many meats as well. They are knowledgeable for gluten free and even have gluten free quesadillas. All of their meats are GF except the battered fish. The tacos are amazing and my husband really enjoyed his quesadilla. I think our favorites were the chicken and shrimp! read more

We stopped in for a taco after taking the sunset cruise on the glass bottom boat. It was about 9:00 pm and is the norm in Key West they were busy. Servers were friendly and attentive. Hubby had crispy pollo tacos I had regular (soft shell) pollo. The chicken was well seasoned and the tacos were delicious. So much so we talked about them for a couple days after. I was sitting at the sloppy Joe's across the street drinking a Dr Pepper when I spotted the sign, "Amigos" and something about a square taco. I left key west before I could try the spot but for some reason those words, "square taco", were engrained in my brain. I had to have it. Never in my 2 decade life have I seen a square taco and the thought of it entering my pie hole intrigued me. Fast forward two days and I am back in Key West with a game plan. I was going to eat the square taco. I walk up and I'm hyped up ready to try this food. A sign outside of the door saying "best taco 2019" furthered my curiosity and set my expectation high. I ordered the beef taco with the square corn tortilla. I am a corn tortilla lover so knowing this tortilla would not only be a quadrilateral parallelogram, but also my preferred ingredient, made me excited to try fill my stomach. Finally, after a short wait, it arrived. I opened the foil and laid eyes upon it. THE square taco. Something was wrong however. The structural integrity of the corn tortilla was compromised. Two splits appeared without me picking up the finished product. Immediately my smile turned around. I knew this was either an older corn tortilla or there was not enough oil involved in the process of making the edible wrapper of the beef contents. In a bite I could feel the dryness in the tortilla. Without a drink it would be a struggle to get this thing down to your stomach. I was only able to scarf down 3/4 of the dry, singular taco before I had to feed it to one of the trash cans. Inner contents were feasible for a taco but if you're coming here for the square taco and happen to be as enthralled with this idea of a new shaped food, you will be let down, disappointed, and leave thinking where you went wrong. Would it have been better to have never tried the taco and kept the paradisal form of this food item in my mind, or is the disappointment I faced a punishment for a crime committed in a previous life? read more

Beef, pork, chicken, fish, shrimp, veggie, and fried avacado are among the choices. I had the salad which was mixed greens topped with jicama, carrot, pickled onions, tortilla strips, and cojita cheese. I added shredded chicken which was a tasty addition. Large portion was served with a good dressing for $11. My husband had three beef tacos which came with rice and beans. The tacos were flavorful but but small. This place is pretty close to Mallory Square spot which is super famous for sunsets in Key West, so always lots of crowds. It has a sports bar feel to it. About the food, it was okay. Absolutely loved their fried avocado taco! It was amazing. We asked for some hot salsa to go with our food and that was good as well. However, the veggie enchiladas was definitely a let down. It was filled with huge pieces of cauliflower and sweet potato and the tortilla itself didn't taste that great. I wasn't impressed by the enchilada sauce either. It came with rice and vegetarian black beans. Service was fine. In terms of parking, there is none! There is hardly any free parking in Key West and even the paid ones are hard to find depending on the time of the day. Located right off of Duval Street with a direct view of both sloppy joes and captain Tony's, the original sloppy joes. Walk, Uber or bike here. Parking is limited. The chips and salsa was a perfect starter for two people. The couple next to us got the guac and chips and it was huge and looked very fresh! I got the fried shrimp tacos and they were HUGE! The platter came with three tacos and beans and rice. So filling! The flavors in the taco were refreshing and slightly spicy. My boyfriend got the Carnitas bowl and he was blown away. He wanted more spice so they offered hot sauces. The do have a limited bar. Tequila or beer. Margaritas are strong and flavorful! One thing I will mention that we did not get to participate in but I am SO mad I was too full to do this... they offer a key lime pie with two half slices from two different key west bakers so you can "crown" your own best key lime pie! For dinner we decided to try Amigos. When we went to amigos it was full and we had to wait for 10-20 minutes to have a seating. Once we got the seating we got Chips and Salsa then we started with Appetizers which included Mexican Fried Potatoes, Fire Roasted corn on the cob and soda. For dinner we ordered Chicken Burrito, Fish and Tacos and Chicken Quesadillas. The appetizers were good and we loved them. Burrito as well as fish was also amazing. "Home of the square taco" - it says it right on the sign yet, I was still surprised. The taco shell itself reminded me of lavash bread but more chewy. The filling of each taco was delicious- but overall all missing acid, it was begging for some fresh lime- we went with grilled mahi, black beans, vegetarian and friend avocado. It's more of a Tex-mex feel than authentic tacos. The salsa is SPICY and the guacamole was chunky. The roasted corn (elote) was heavy on the Mayo but perfect on the cheese. The prices were my biggest issue- I felt like it was significantly overpriced. The vegetarian options should not cost as much as the meat options. Its about four dollars average per taco is a little steep. The location is right in the thick of things, which I am sure contributes to the pricing. read more

Amigos is located right off Duval Street and where we were staying at so we decided to get our lunch there. During our visit to Key West, we came here twice because A. It was probably the tastiest food we ate in Key West B. No doubt the best margarita and C. Super affordable. Their menu is very very simple. They offer their signature taco (square!), burrito and bowl and few other side plates and what not. By the way, have I mentioned that their Hot Salsa is da bomb? I know I was on a "Party Street" where it is touristy so it was very hard to find a decent glass of margarita but I can tell you that after trying multiple places on Duval Street, Amigos had the best one. Not overly sweet and so easy to drink. If you feel like getting frisky, order a shot of tequila and add to your marg - which is what we did haha... Everyone that knows me knows I love a good margarita and some tacos and this place did not disappoint. The margaritas were refreshing and not sweet (which I hate) . I decided to go with the chicken and beef tacos as they allow you to mix and match. The chicken was my favorite out of the two. The chicken was very flavorful and juicy. The beef was also great and i might be kind of bias because I tend to always favor chicken over beef but nonetheless they were both great. Amigos is great tiki-adjacent food. It's rich and balances you getting your brains smashed across the street. Other than the situational use it's... ok. It's not extraordinary. It's not bad. It's just tacos and nachos done fairly well. Carne asada is better than the chicken. Chicken is shredded and too moist for nachos. Highly recommend it as a balance for Tiki House though. read more
