Representing 2023 for the letter is A is for AMF Southwest Lanes. I visited one time in February 2023 and was a positive experience. At the beginning of the year, I had joined a brand new games Meetup where we'd meet at Panera on Saturday, which is still going on and plan on going this Saturday. In those early months of the group, there would sometimes be some social activity afterward. I went to a couple late bites as well as bowling here. Lanes were clean. It was my first time ever doing duckpin bowling as I had only ever done traditional bowling. The drink I bought was cheap in the bar. Overall, I'd enjoy returning to this bowling alley. read more

I have not gone bowling for a very long time and when we found out we were going to be doing this as an activity for our work trip. But then to find out that this was duckpin bowling kind of changed the game, no pun intended. I have never been duckpin bowling but had it on my radar to try out. This is a massive facility. Not only do they have the duckpin bowling, but they have a whole room for billiards, two bars for libations, a dance studio upstairs, and I am sure that I am forgetting something. However, the two biggest draws here are the duckpin bowling and billiards. The duckpin bowling was amazing, man did my arm hurt the next day. If you do not know what duckpin bowling is, it is basically skee-ball for adults. It's not your traditional bowling in ways that you can't knock down all the pins as easily as you can with a bigger ball and bigger pins. Once you get the just of it you get into a groove and it makes for a fun night. We were on a bowl as much as you want type of thing. We split ourselves up into teams and went on our merry way. Fun did ensue as people got into the night, balls were flying down the lane, and sometimes over into other lanes. One thing that I wasn't the biggest fan of was the food we were served. We had popcorn, soft pretzels, and pizza. It wasn't your top shelf items, but it should be what to expect from a bowling alley. Just wish they would have cut the pizza properly as some pieces weren't cut. I would have love some more of the popcorn as well, that was fire. read more

She reached out to other locations to see if lanes were available and we ended up elsewhere. She most definitely did not need go out of her way. Came here to play pool and it was a good, but not great experience. The some of pool sticks are not straight. There are about 8 or so pool tables available for $13.50 an hour. I ordered a Stella Artois from the bar and it was skunked. I told the bartender and he gave me another one that also happened to be skunked. Unfortunately, they do not have a wide selection of beer either. The food is mediocre and enough to settle the craving appetite, b it nothing to hype after. read more

I went with friends for duckpin bowling night, which was a lot of fun. The place looked just like any bowling alley. There was also a bar though we didn't realize that it was there because the door looks like it goes outside. Also, the food wasn't great. I ordered their cheesy bacon fries, which were barely warm when they got to the table and were barely covered in cheese. In short, if you're going to bowl, you'll have fun. If you're looking for an alley with good food, look elsewhere. read more

As an FYI this is a 100% duck pin lane. Duck pin is like miniature bowling with smaller balls, smaller pins and a third bowl every frame. This AMF has an old school feel down to the hand scoring that you keep track of. There's not loud music or TV's showing sports, just the sounds of pins and the ball return. A pitcher of beer (about 5 beers) and three games was about 30. It took a little bit to get a lane but the service was friendly and quick after the initial wait. It's a good change of pace from the regular 10 pin bowling. You may have to do a little math for scoring but it's a pretty fun place. You also have to reset your pins as well as clear the lane yourself using buttons on the ball return...like I said old school. They do charge for extra frames, all the bowling done per game is counted by a computer. A unique experience that was a good time. read more

This place is duckpin bowling, something that we didn't know before coming but not mad about. We had a lot of fun here, it looked like a bowling alley but was quite a bit bigger than others I've been to. My biggest complaint here was that it's always busy! We wanted to come on a Saturday which is of course the busiest time to come, but they were booked until 345pm and after 5pm. Luckily we called ahead of time and our group only wanted to do a few rounds. Given I haven't been bowling, the scoreboard and setting it up was confusing to me. Eventually I got it and put everyones names in and figured out that it was automatic scoring (nice since we didn't want to have to put it in). I think many of the people who come here are pro's but it would've been nice to get a rundown on how to use it. The woman who answered my phone call when I talked to her was great, but checking out after a few games was a little weird. No one knew how the line went, people were cutting infant of me and the people working at that time didn't have much interest in helping me out. It's ok though, you come here to bowl and not for the best customer service in the world. The place was clean on the inside and they were cleaning the whole time we were there. I could've done without hearing the vacuum the whole time but appreciated it since it's nice to know they are always cleaning. read more

We've only been here for kids' birthday parties, both ours and friends. Their prices are good and their service is absolutely top-notch. And they've got really good pizza. The place is a bit old, but for our purposes anyway (kid parties) it is fine. If you want high-end bowling, this place is not for you. But for anything else, it is great. read more

Unfortunately, I didn't really get to try this location out, as they only have duckpin bowling here; I'm a 10-pin kind of girl. Conveniently off of the Beltway at exit 8 - it was very easy to find. Great rating for the staff, though, as they were very friendly and helpful; they recommended AMF Ritchie for us and even offered to call ahead to make sure that our Groupon would be accepted at that location (it had the Southwest location printed on it). From the little I saw, it was well-kept and very clean, if a bit small. Lots of kids and adults enjoying themselves. I think that if you're into duckpin bowling, this would be a really nice location for you to go to. read more

Great place. Kind of hidden off of I-695. It can get a bit pricey with games and food. But the food is great and the lanes are well kept. A fun time. My only "real" complaint is that smokers congregate right outside of the bowling alley doors. If you are a non-smoker, it is does not add to your visit to have to walk through a pack of smokers. read more

I took the two girls I babysit here and I had nothing but a bad experience. To start, the guy who we rented shoes from was rude. This bowling place doesn't have automatic bowling, which I'm not used to. So I asked the guy a question and he was extremely condescending; he made me feel like a complete idiot. Also we ordered food from the snack area - a soft pretzel, personal pizza, and two cups of water. The lady who I ordered it from was very unfriendly. She said she'd bring the food to us when it was ready but we waited for 20 minutes. It doesn't take 20 minutes to cook a pretzel and personal pizza. When she finally did bring it I said thank you but she didn't acknowledge me and just walked away. She didn't bring the cups of water so I politely asked for those. But in a very nasty tone she said, "I told you when you ordered the water is at the end of the counter". I never heard her say anything about that and I couldn't believe how rude she was to me. The bowling was fine but this place had the worst service I've ever encountered in my life and I will not be going back. I wouldn't suggest bowling here unless you want rude employees ruining your day. read more

Considering this is the only place to go duckpin bowling close to my zipcode, my husband and I took our 3 year old son here (who loves bowling). We were greeted by a very snobby, very cold woman who seemed to hate her job. We paid (24$ for one hour) and then went to get food at the kitchen which was closed at noon. We were informed things would be ready soon and we paid for food, which cost us more than the actual bowling experience. They forgot our soda, then got an extreme attitude when we reminded them and were hit with "I don't even know where the d**n pitchers are!". The cook wiped her nose on her gloved hands. This is a good place to go duck pin bowling. Yeah, it is a little dated and not the best looking place but it is a bowling alley. Prices are pretty average for the area for duck pin bowling but I like the bowl all you can in x amount of time model. The cheese pizza was surprisingly good! Food and beer prices are ok. read more

Birthday Parties! We have had my son's birthday party here two years in a row. The place is clean, the staff is friendly and the kids LOVE it. They have a staff member assigned to your party to make sure you have everything you need. It's one of the cheapest options for a kid's party in the area. read more

My sister and I decided to go on a double date here after dinner. The policy is no food or drink in the bowling alley. But it was 90 degrees and we had leftovers that we didn't want to go to waste. We put our leftovers in a bag and tied it closed. As we walked in, an employee immediately walked over and very rudely said, "can't bring that in here." I explained that we just came from dinner and didn't want the food to spoil outside. I asked if we could just sit it on the table and showed her the closed bag. She again rudely said, "can't bring that in here." I understand that their policy is that customers cannot eat or drink outside food or beverage. We were planning on purchasing pitchers of beer and nachos, not eating our leftovers. What we did not appreciate was the rudeness and lack of customer service. She could have easily said, "I'm sorry but our policy is no food or drink in the bowling alley." We won't be coming here again. read more
