They lie, and over charge for services not performed. Had service for 14 years and now they can't find my address for refill.

I manage a 4-unit rental property in Scotts Valley, and we've been using AmeriGas. The shared tank for all four units is medium-sized. AmeriGas consistently drove tenants away by issuing outrageously inflated bills. One former tenant received a $5,500 bill for May 2023--even though they weren't using the wall heater. Another tenant was billed $3,700 for November. To put that in perspective, a city inspector from Santa Cruz confirmed that $3,700 is way more than the annual gas cost for all four units combined, closer to the cost of two year gas usage by all 4 families. The only way to combat this scam is to get the city involved, forcing an AmeriGas employee to physically read the meter, or to spend endless hours on chat or phone calls with AmeriGas--both of which are exhausting and time-consuming. After inspection, the actual meter readings are nowhere near the thousands of dollars they claim remotely. But if you don't vigilantly monitor your bills, AmeriGas will hit you with $4,000-$5,000 per month, and they're lightning-fast to send those fraudulent bills to collections, wrecking people's credit. Bottom line: AmeriGas's remote meter readings, which inexplicably add a few zeros to your bill, are a complete SCAM. We're switching all tenants to FerrellGas this month and hoping they're not another scam like AmeriGas. If you want to destroy your credit, waste countless hours battling a dishonest gas company, or drive away good tenants, by all means--use AmeriGas. read more

We have used this company since we bought our house (about 2 years ago now). The pattern we have noticed is 1. They ALWAYS come late. We need to call and complain at least once every time we need gas before we get a delivery. 2. They do not follow their word. The last straw: it is now week 4 of us trying to get a refill on our propane. We are in the mountains, so we are a bit understanding. We try to help by scheduling our refill at the same time as our neighbor. First time, the delivery driver decides they will not drive down our road so they select that the "road is closed" as an excuse not to come deliver propane (the road we NEVER closed). Our neighbor called back daily for a week and they delivered propane to our neighbor... We somehow slipped through the cracks and when we called they said we were no longer on the schedule. We are also reminded every time we called that "according to our records, you are safe until the end of the month" (like we are exaggerating). 2 different managers, on 2 different days have also have promised that we will have a delivery of propane "Today". By the way, apparently if your propane falls below 5%, they require someone to be home so they can run a pressure test before refilling the propane. We both work Monday-friday and if it gets to that point, we will probably need to point out how long we have been on their schedule (they even said it would be put under an "emergency refill" multiple times by now). Amerigas is the worst company ever! We're out of propane for a third time. They never mentioned anything about the tank being small and my needing to call them. My past providers would come out regularly and we never had to worry. Not only do they let you completely run out and slam you with an exorbitant amount they try and extort you for another $300 to have it delivered within 24 hours! I have a child and an elder here and this is unacceptable! Never again! read more

If I could give no stars I would.... We didn't have a choice about Amerigas when it took over. We've dealt with them not filling out tank for months and running us out of gas and then just showing up like it was nothing months later. After talking with the driver we were told it was sold to a large corporation and it was not the same for anyone. Well we smelled gas called them and we were told they would come out in 6 days that was the earliest appointment they had. We were able to flag down a driver and he contacted our local maintenance department. The service tech didn't have us sign or give us any paperwork when he came out that day, was there 30 minutes. He did a pressure test and locked our tank and told us it was on our side to call when we had it fixed. We found the bad pipe and fixed it and called him back the next day. He was there again 30 minutes. We were billed for a APP&S Service Dispatch Fee @ 1.0 = 119.99 EA and APP&S Service Labor Fee 1.0 =299.25/HR total $430.64 then for the second visit we were charged APP&S Service Dispatch Fee @ 1.0 = 119.99 EA and RECONNECT SERVICE 1.0 = 199.50 EA total $330.89 for a grand total of $761.53 above and beyond what our fuel delivery was. I've called repeatedly and can't get anyone other than a call center (that sounds like they are in a foreign country and every man is named Eric) and they never send you to a manager they just put you on hold longest hold (on speaker) 1 hour and 45 minutes. They will not return my online request for a phone call. How can they charge a dispatch fee and a service fee this is ridiculous. Over $700 to put a lock on and off! I'm so disappointed in the service provided and the cost looking to change companies. Would rather give my hard earned money to a company that can take the time to call customers back and answer questions about their billing. I asked the gentlemen I was just talking to where his call center is located: Kenya and he says it's that cool.... NO it's not cool! One of the worst companies. Cannot contact any actual employees at the company. Their customer support is unable to answer any questions, and they have no method to contact/escalate/resolve issues, they can only schedule technicians. The technicians are either lazy or incompetent, they never contact (phone, doorbell, knock, etc) on the schedules days. and commonly just pull into the driveway, and then drive away. This is on the days that they decide to show up, deliveries can be delayed days past the scheduled date with zero updates or comms from the company. pick any other provider read more

Like many reviewers- I will forever be in shock at how a company can be so terrible. I bought a home in the mountains and 24h into the move, my tank went dry. I called amerigas (the tanks on the property were theirs) and set up a new account. They told me a delivery would be made in two weeks (already an insane stretch of time to go without propane). I waited two weeks (with my pregnant sister and senior parents staying with me). Delivery date shows up, amerigas does not. This process repeated twice more with countless phone calls, being left on hold, speaking to increasingly incompetent people. After about a MONTH being strung along and jerked around by amerigas (and not being able to find anyone else who could get me a delivery) Suburban propane made an emergency same day delivery. Now, the story doesn't end there. I had to go through the process of canceling my account THREE TIMES and today the sweetest delivery man showed up with my propane (three months later..?). I thought someone was finally here to pick up the amerigas tanks. Jokes on me! LAST point I will make: the service technician and delivery folks that work for the company have been great- the company itself just blows. Go elsewhere. Anywhere else. Amerigas is trash. read more

Now on day 3 of Zero Propane. Their algorithm for determining when a fill up would be needed was way off. Tank went to 0% on Thursday evening. Calling on Friday morning to request tank fill, note the automated attendant thought our level should have been about 11%. To me, 11% tank left, in the middle of a very wet and cold winter is letting it get way too low. Called and spoke to representative, who was very polite, and assured that we would get a tank refill on an expedited level, and within 24hrs. Stated the weekend would not matter. Gas ran out (thus no heat, nor able to cook) on Thursday evening. It is now Sunday afternoon, and no word, much less any propane. I am an almost 70 yr old man, with heart and RA issues. Sitting in a cold house, unable to cook. Can only microwave tea. I feel Amerigas failed us in a big way. But of course, not much you can do. I will be watching the tank much tighter now, and requesting a refill manually (since obviously I can't count on Amerigas) when in the winter the tank gets down to 25% Boo (As much as I want to, I will not cuss) to Amerigas!!! read more

Drivers and propane delivery is excellent however the customer service is deplorable if you are unlucky enough to call customer service. They have outsourced to Philippines and the service is absolutely horrible. Issues are not resolved and follow up is non existent. I'm changing companies. read more

This company is horrible. Once they closed their office in Scotts Valley the service just go worse and worse. I called Monday to order propane, starting the call you have to deal with the annoying computer phone tree (which doesn't work well at all...), then once I was able to speak with a live person the phone connection was so bad I could only hear about every 3rd - 5th word the lady was saying. I called back, dealt with the phone tree computer system (once again). I was finally connected to a lady who could barely speak English. She was either working at home, I could hear tons of background noise (like a tv and others talking in the background) or I was transfered to a call center in another country... sadly I think it was the second. If not, having your employees working at home with a bad phone connection, the TV turned on with others talking in the back ground is horrible customer service... Either way, the entire customer service experience sucks. After the phone call you can not take the "customer feedback survey" because you get cut off once the operator hangs up the phone. Once I finally got the gas ordered, it is scheduled to arrive in 5 - 7 days??? The last time I ordered gas it took over 2 weeks for the delivery. I was working outside alot around the house during that period and I saw the propane truck drive by twice and not stop. This is a rental property and I'm selling it, if not I would dump AmeriGas and go with a better more local company. On 5/25/2023 I had my tank filled 388 galloons. I have not used the heat one time since then. On 10/31/2023, I went to turn the heat on, and the tank was empty! I haven't used any how was this possible? Either there was a leak or they didnt fill it up when I paid $1200! I called for 2 days and they said a ditrict manager Aaron Noble would call and of course no call. I want my $1200 back or my propane tank filled. Then they sent a tech out not telling me anybody was coming & that an adult had to be there, while I was at work. Still no resolution. read more

Amerigas is a nightmare to deal with and all customer support calls divert to offshore call centers that can't resolve simple delivery and billing issues. None of the the local Northern California offices are open to customers and local phone numbers forward to the call center. read more

The delivery person that serviced the park I lived in was FANTASTIC. Unfortunately, that was the the only positive thing about AmeriGas. The park I lived in had a negotiated community rate. I followed what the manager told me to do to get that rate. When I got my first bill, I noticed I had been charged the wrong rate, so I tried to contact customer service. After and HOUR AND A HALF on hold, the person I spoke to told me they could not help me and to get a copy of the document and email it to them. I did. No response. I handed it to the driver. Next bill, still the wrong charge. I sent no less than 30 emails over a 8 month period, and received 3 responses, all less helpful than the one before. I asked the park manager to speak to someone. He kept getting the same run around and no one could help me. THEN AmeriGas sent me to collections. My favorite part was the line that said AmeriGas had "tried to resolve" the bill. Nope. Not even close. 30+ unreturned emails is not trying to do anything. Giving me the run around on what to do to resolve the issue? Not trying. Again I called customer service, and although the rep was very nice he was no help. Finally I decided to just move rather than to continue having to deal with AmeriGas. Too bad you can't give a negative 0 star review. I have been a loyal Amerigas customer at my primary residence for the last 19 years. I have been on a payment plan and NEVER ever missed a payment. Late last year Amerigas discontinued the payment plan without notifying me. Next thing you know I am accruing all these late charges for failure to pay in full? Apparently their call center is now in the Philippines and their customer service is GARBAGE!!! They told me I no longer qualify for the "payment plan" i was on for the better half of the last 19 years due to late payment? Once again to reiterate, absolutely no notification that they discontinued the payment plan that I was on etc. Not to mention they are charging over 50 cents more per gallon than the other local propane providers. I will be switching propane companies and pay less for better customer service. The "costumer" is no longer "always right" and costumer service is basically non existent. They could not explain to me how they were able to change my payment plan to pay up front without notifying me first and to add insult to injury, they told me I was no longer eligible for a payment plan without explaining why? I think A.I. would do a better job explaining their new policies as I has to ask to speak to a manager to answer my questions and the manager still made absolutely no sense? By By Amerigas! I am very upset with this company. My boyfriend had called, and they had agreed to waive the fee to come out and check our tank. Come to find out, they still charged me, despite that agreement. I was not sent a bill or anything until they sent me to collections. I will never buy propane from them again-they are more expensive than their competitors anyway. Amerigas has the highest prices and the worst service. I had to pre pay for my gas and they would never check my tank. Once I prepaid they took so long to deliver my tank would run out of gas. The last time i bought gas they had my money for over a month until my tank ran out of gas. The office would not refund my money so I had to contact upper management and file a complaint to finally get a refund. I called another company to get gas and they were here the next day to deliver and their price for gas was much less. If your looking for a propane company avoid amerigas. read more

So, I got a hold of Amerigas this morning to figure out why I received a letter of Contract Termination, with a fee of $163.00 for said termination. Evidently, there was a discrepancy on our account. I spoke with a nice person named, Franchesca. She took great care of me, and apologized for the confusion. She's redoing our account and setting our propane back on contract. If you are considering using Amerigas... Don't. Their service is terrible and there are less expensive sources of propane. Here is my story: My disappointment started when I tried to open an account in March 2021, because there were Amerigas tanks on my property. After weeks of non-response and no gas delivery, I gave up and used another company. Shortly after, Amerigas called and asked to pick up their tanks. I agreed and that was my second mistake. IN may of 2021 they came and picked up their tanks and soon after I received a bill for removing the gas that was left in the tanks. Why they want to bill me for getting free gas makes no sense, and they were not my tanks in the first place. Between May and November 2021 I called repeatedly and was assured my account would be credited. Instead I was sent to a collection agency. On November 17, 2021 I forced the offshore (sounded Indian) customer rep to stay on the line until I could see the credit. That is the only thing that worked so if you are having issues with their so called customer service, I suggest that you do the same. read more

My problem with this company isn't the service they provide, it's that you can't speak to anyone locally when you have a problem. We had a gas leak in the line running to the house, so they put a lock on our tank. We got the leak fixed quickly but trying to get someone out to unlock the tank is another story. We get a different person each time we call the call center and whatever the previous person set up is gone. In the meantime, it's 56 degrees in our house. Ordered a fill up of my 500 gal tank at the beginning of December. They gave me a window of when the delivery would be made. Then the last day of said window, they sent a message saying the delivery wouldn't happen on time. Two days later, they finally came but only put in 100 gal and sent me the bill. Tank was low, so no reason why they couldn't have put in 250-300 gal of propane. No explanation for the paltry amount or the late fill were given. I called the local phone number to ask why and could only ever reach some "offshore" call center, with women who could not understand even the simplest thing like my name and address. One even hung up on me when I asked to talk to a supervisor. They can't even give me a real number to call to talk to my local office and get to the bottom of the problem. read more

It is shame that I can't give them a negative star rating. we were supposed to be on an auto fill schedule and once again they let us run out. This has happened numerous times. we gave them our credit card number specifically to avoid this constant nightmare. When I contacted their customer service (one of the worst automated phone systems I have ever had the displeasure of having to wade through- it kept hanging up on me!) I was told by the live operator (that I eventually) reached that our account had been switched over from "auto fill" to "will call". They had changed the status of our account with out warning or notifying us of them doing so. Even though we had specifically did what they requested to keep us on auto fill so as to once again avoid this major inconvenience and what is looking a lot like an obvious scam to gouge their customers out of extra money. Now, even though they are the ones responsible for letting our tank run out they want to charge us an additional $300 for an emergency fill! Bottom line these guy's couldn't care less about real honest customer service, and clearly are out to only scam customers, and bilk them for as much money as they can at every opportunity. Many of our neighbors who have had Ameriscam said they have had similar or worse experiences and clearly the company to avoid. Now that our tank is empty we are switching providers- scammers and companies with deliberately poor customer service do not deserve peoples hard earned money or business. Zero stars. We're on automatic delivery, and we went six days without propane, despite multiple attempts to reach a live person and submitting online delivery requests. Yesterday, I Fedexed a letter to the CEO in Pennsylvania, asking how he'd like to be without heat, hot water, and a stove for six days in January? This morning the Bay Area Amerigas manager left an apologetic voicemail at 7:45 am and the delivery truck pulled up a few minutes later. I order my propane online when my 250 gallon tank gets to be around 45% full. On my last order, the price quoted online per gallon was $4.99. When the bill was available, the price ended up being $5.34 per gallon. My friend and fairly near neighbor was billed $4.11 per gallon on a delivery she got only a few days before my delivery. I spent an inordinate amount of time explaining this to a representative in a distant location who said she would adjust my account so the last delivery would be billed at $4.99 per gallon. I asked her why this discrepancy between quote and billing and my friend's much lower price per gallon. The reply was that there must have been some confusion. The AmeriGas drivers are quite nice and very competent, but this propane gas company has significant issues which cause the consumer money, time, and confidence. read more

Amerigas has left us stranded without heat at our house. We had to turn our propane off for our house to be fumigated and scheduled Amerigas to come and turn it back on. They did not show up. We have been calling them everyday for 2 weeks - every time we call we get a different person who just gives us the runaround - they schedule another appointment - then they don't show. The business practices are lacking integrity at the Amerigas on Salinas Rd. I was a Santa Cruz county resident until mid October. Amerigas has had some shady and deceptive practices throughout my business with them, yet when I tried to switch companies, the Covid limitations didn't allow other propane companies to start new service that required entering homes. Amerigas over charges for propane and is the most expensive in comparison to all of the others in the county, even with being a member of SPUG. **SPUG is an organization that allows you to get propane at wholesale or close to wholesale price--check it out regardless what company you go with**When I moved, Amerigas informed me that their policy is that they will send someone to pick up the tank and then a refund check will be written for the gas returned. I was told mine was $377. * just a note* before I moved, I called three times and all three people told me the same policy before I scheduled to have my tank picked up. After months of being on hold (5.5 hours over 4 months)and receiving avoidant customer service, I was told they do not give refunds and that's that. On top of it, they tried to charge me for the tank rental in 2021 that I no longer have, but after being on hold for 2 hours, that part was resolved. Before I walk away from this situation for my sanity sake, I just wanted to spread awareness of these really poor and deceptive business practices. I filed a complaint on BBB, Amerigas did not reply, and found many others complaining of the same misleading situation. Amerigas then turns around and resells the propane. If I was informed accurately about this, I would have left the propane for the new resident to use. We are still in a pandemic and funds are hard to come by so to me, this is just stealing from and misleading consumers. You can find more info on this by referring to BBB or Yelp, as well as any google search of Amerigas and see that they are taking advantage of customers. I'm just one who prefers to use my voice to warn others. Other issues I experienced over the 2.5 years I did business with them -my tank ran out of propane despite being on autofill -they overcharge at least $1 per gallon compared to other places. When I asked them not to fill my tank and do a partial fill due to being out of work due to shut downs, they filled my tank full anyway and when I fought for a discount, it was minimal. There are also a handful of other ways they try to charge fees or rent that are out of integrity. Read the small print, and even if you do, they'll try to nickel and dime you. I'm honestly surprised they haven't received a class action lawsuit yet. Amerigas lacks accountability, integrity, and responsible customer service. read more

Amerigas charges $2.00 more a gallon for propane than then competitor. They promise delivery and don't deliver. They don't give refunds on unused rental on tank. This company has very bad customer service and they do not return calls as promised. I just got off the phone with Jake from Amerigas who told me to look on line for their terms and conditions. One of the worst companies I've ever dealt with. Been weeks we needed a refill on our propane. We have dogs in our yard and unfortunately this company is not capable of calling leaving a message or text so we can bring the dogs in. We were told they would call and text but that wasn't the case. I ask for an emergency refill since we're at 5%. The lady I have spoke to said they would come later Monday or early Tuesday morning. No surprise know one showed up, come noon I called and was told by the same girl who is completely incompetent that she cannot promise a delivery today. When ask to speak with management she said I cannot they do not take inbound calls, I have to wait for one to call me which I highly doubt going to happen. Bottom line 3 week mutiple attempts to get service with no resolution is a JOKE! Not only am I canceling after being a customer for 15+ years. I am also going to make sure everyone I know using this service switches and get the message out there that AmeriGas is one of the worst companies & their customer service SUCKS beyond belief. read more

I have been an Amerigas customer for 20 years with no problems until recently. I am on "automatic delivery" status and have not had a delivery since Sept. 21, 20. We are presently down to 1% capacit ! I have called the Amerigas every day for the past week. Their new phone system makes it impossible to speak directly to the local office. Every day I have been on hold for 45 to 1hr. 20min. listening to the most annoying "music". When I get an agent, they assure me that I am on a priority delivery status. My online account states that a delivery is scheduled & and the delivery is pending........... So we are now down to 1%, no promised delivery date and we will not be able to heat the house, cook our food, have hot water or do laundry. Can't think of a better way to lose customers! read more

For our initial delivery, we went 9 days without gas! This was after 5-7 phone calls with hold times of more than 1 hour, and them saying they would "expedite" the delivery. Now for our second delivery, we will likely run out of gas again, because their automated gas level estimate says we have 30% and we only have 4%. Again, this is after 2 phone calls when they said they would expedite the delivery. On the first call, they guaranteed me it would be delivered the same day. Spoiler Alert: it was not! read more

Ive never experience such terrible service. I placed an order online 1/5/21 and the payment went through ($500 +) same day. I received a confirmation email that the delivery would occur 1/7/21 to 1/20/21. I patiently waited for the deliver over the next two weeks. On 1/21/21, still no delivery has occurred so I give them a call to see what the deal is. I send 1.5 hours on hold until a lady takes the call. I explain when I placed the order, when delivery was supposed to happen and ask when the delivery is coming... she literally says "hmm, hmmm, I don't know". I then ask if there is a manger or someone else that can help me that would know. She says there is no one else and hangs up on me. I call back, get placed on hold again for another 1.5 hours and finally reach a guy. I reexplain the situation and he tells me my order has been "blocked". I am frustrated this point and express me concerns. He promises me the delivery would occur tomorrow (1/22/21). Today is 1/22/21 and still no delivery has occurred. I am literally on hold again for an hour now and no answers, no status update, nothing. They have no problem taking your money same day as you place the order but can't provide a simple update on when propane will be delivered. Now I'm out of propane with no heat in the winter with a winter storm on the way and also out $500. Amerigas- I want my money back and I want you to come pick up your tank ASAP so I can get a different provider who will fulfill my order I already paid for! read more

We have been waiting to get paid since January for the work we did at the facility at 885 Salinas Rd to fix their rooftop unit so they would have heat. Been sending invoices, calling and being put on hold, been redirected to numerous numbers, sat on hold, told to call another number, sat on hold and been given numbers that don't work. Told that no one is at "the district office" all working remotely but hey so are the rest of us and we still have to pay our bills! Terrible mess over there and we still haven't been paid. I understand potential delays due to COVID as their excuse, but over 6 weeks to get a delivery, with the last 2 weeks on hold for over a 1/2 hour each time I called every day. Each time a promise of a delivery that day, with of course a no show. Spent one day on the phone waiting over an hour to speak to a "supervisor", to be told the 6 week delay is due to COVID. Sorry but they have had 9 months to figure out how to run a business during COVID, especially a business supplying heating fuel to homes in the winter. We are down to 0% on the tank, and I've told them each time I called my wife is not in good health with some immune deficiency and heat is mandatory for her health.
