He said he could come out in a couple hours, but then offered to try to help me over the phone. He walked me through the steps to trouble-shoot the issue, and I found that I had accidentally turned off the power when I changed the filter (huge guy, tiny space). To me, that is a class act, and someone I can trust. We have always used one of the big companies in town, but now we will call RK for all of our HVAC needs. Thanks so much y'all!

Bill was very professional and courteous when he sold and installed my HVAC unit several years ago…read more(8). However, something has changed and my last 3 experiences with A-1 have been very disappointing. I brushed the first one off as he was just having a bad day, the 2nd one as possibly a bad day but I was going to address it when he came out to do the winter check up. During the 1st experience back in June I brought up my concern that the thermostat needed to be replaced. It wasn't replaced when the new system was installed because the wrong one was shipped and I'd started having issues where it wasn't holding the set reading - I might have it set at 75, but walk in to a hot room only to find that the actual temperature was showing 89. We decided since this wasn't a daily or even weekly occurrence we would wait for the winter maintenance check. When I called to schedule that he didn't recall anything from the June visit, instead he was patronizing (my option) and basically told me that I wasn't qualified to determine if a new thermostat was needed (then why did he agree that we'd replace it back in June???). After discussing it for a few minutes the appointment was scheduled. Day of the appointment he called me again and said the work order indicated he should bring a thermostat (yes, that was what we'd discussed when I made the appointment). His response was "Lady there are thousands of models and I don't know which one you would need". Yes, he actually said lady - not my name which he clearly knew since it was on the work order, not even ma'am. Maybe I was already on the defense but I didn't appreciate that or his tone. Bottom line, I said never mind, he hung up on me and that was the last I heard from him. I will find me another company to maintain my HVAC unit and I don't recommend A-1. I can only hope that it was something he had against me personally rather than this is the way he treats everyone.

I have always been happy with the work this team does and have been happy to support this business…read morebut I was just made to pay $230 for a part alone that costs $30 or less to buy. I was told that was completely normal. An up-charge like that is anything but normal. I had to pay almost $800 for less than 30 min of work and told it was because he is an expert. I needed some wires checked and new capacitor. This was not an emergency call, not a night or weekend call, just a regularly scheduled Monday morning. This is partly my fault for not asking questions but mainly theirs for not making the charges clear before handing over the bill. I would have NEVER paid this much money had I known what I was paying for and it does't sit well with me that someone would use their "expertise" to rob people of money this way. Being told "we charged you the same thing back in 2016" doesn't help! That just tells me that I have been blindly loyal AND robbed for over 10 years.

He immediately told me I needed a new capacitor. He did not check the freon, etc. A new capacitor was installed and the Heat Pump seemed to be back to normal. After he left I bought online an exact capacitor, same part number, guaranteed and delivered for $19.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is highway robbery. I used them a month before that and he was similarly 2 hours past the time window they gave. But the biggest problem is that they are ridiculously expensive, and I mean ridiculous. They charged me $595 to replace the drain tube on my dishwasher. They said the high price was because of "labor," but we are talking about a hose going out from the machine and into the drain. Wrap your mind around that. I could have bought a whole new dishwasher at that price. Use them if money (or your time) is no object to you. I won't use them ever again.
