Terrible experience. On June 8, I brought my mom's car in for a smog check. The vehicle failed, and I paid $30. The owner specifically told me to replace the battery, drive the car about 100 miles, and come back for a free retest along with the smog paperwork. I followed his instructions exactly, replaced the battery, drove the required distance, and returned on June 10. Before he started the retest, I showed him the paperwork from my previous visit. He barely looked at it and tossed it onto the center console. After completing the smog check, he charged me $60. When I reminded him that he had promised a free retest, he immediately denied ever saying it. He responded with, "Who said free retest?" and then claimed, "I never said that, and I would never tell anyone that." When I respectfully questioned the charge and asked for my money back, he became argumentative and started using profanity toward me. That level of customer service is completely unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. I came back only because I trusted what I was told during my first visit. Instead, I was charged again and treated with disrespect. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this business to anyone. I wish I could give this zero stars read more

Been coming here for years. Plain and simple place to have your vehicle smog check. They do such a great fast job and you're on your way out. If need to, leave your car and go grab a doughnut next door. I highly recommend this place for a smog check . read more

Fast service and good prices. Owner is always a bit gruff but gets the job done right.

Deceptive advertising. I went there with a coupon. After waiting an hour, the man told me my Rav4 was a truck so he was going to charge me more. Rav4 is not a truck - it's a crossover car build with the same unibody construction found on all cars vs. body-on-frame construction used on trucks. A quick google confirms it is not a truck. It's also unclear why a truck should cost more than a car - same test. I don't like dealing with unscrupulous businesses so I left. read more

Older gentleman was not friendly which I didn't necessarily care about to get a quick smog test done. But prior to paying I showed him the coupon that was sent to me via text from their website and he told me it was "too late". Apparently he needed that coupon code prior to doing the smog test (about 8 minutes sooner). Too many other places to go to, to deal with this. Go elsewhere! read more

Moorpark is a long way to drive for me, but I think it was worth the trip. If you're looking for this place, it is directly across the street from the Carl's Jr. (there's only one in Moorpark). Mo is the owner and person who does the smog test. You need to have a conversation with this guy. He isn't rude, he just has an interesting, perhaps quirky, deadpan sense of humor, and although he always looks serious, he actually isn't. Anyway, his price is pretty on par. He was helping someone when I arrived and politely asked me to park in one if the spaces in the lot and wait for about 10 minutes. He promptly asked me to pull up when he was completed with the previous customer and went to work. Some other places look like they just plug in things and read a code, this guy actually looks like he's working and takes his job seriously and carefully inspected my car. I tried to pay with Apple pay but the machine wasn't having it. I used the chip on the card to pay and didn't have any issues or additional charges. read more

Be careful this business. A credit card machine was error. I paid him cash instead. A week later this business charged me 5 times on my credit cards!! read more

My husband and I have been going to this shop for Smog Testing for 20+ years!! The owner was a little standoffish in the beginning. Spoke very little, only what was required to get service completed. So okay, it's smogged, I'm happy. I'm not sure what others want with negative reviews. I arrived when it was busy several times. Other times lucky enough to drive right in. One time had a car not pass because of new battery. He explained what needed to be done. Came back couple of days later and it passed. After all these years I think you get what you are there for - the car is Smog Tested and paperwork processed. Wait your turn, if by chance there's others there at the same time. He'll get to you quickly and get you through the process. The owner even talks more now if you want. read more

My dad has been coming here for a long time and recommended I take my car here to get smogged. I got my car smogged by the older man who works here, and he is very knowledgeable and on top of it. He seems to enjoy what he is doing, and I enjoyed being a part of the process of getting my car smogged (which you didn't have to be I just chose to). He was very clear and upfront in pricing given my 30 year old car, and had everything done quickly with all my paperwork in order and car with a clean bill of health in no time. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! THIS GUY IS A THIEF!! My son took his truck here to be smogged. His equipment failed during the test and didn't finish the test. He proceeded to charge my son $20.00 for the incomplete test. I went back there to ask him for a refund he began to make excuses, I politely asked for a refund and he refused. I explained to him he didn't provide any service and he started be verbally abusive and told me to leave. I told him I would report him to the BBB and he couldn't care less, $20.00 was more important. BEWARE!!! read more

The older gentlemen there was nasty and abusive. I didn't bring the DMV notice and the guy said to me after I said I didn't bring it " Yes you need the DMV form. It's going to take me 20 minutes to look up the info." Then I gave him the registration and my license and it took him less then 2 minutes to look up my car. As I was getting the registration out and checking to make sure it was the current one he said "Hurry up I've got other people waiting". I then told him I had a coupon and in a nasty voice he said " you brought the coupon but not the DMV form!" I couldn't believe what an asshole he was being. Also it doesn't tell you to bring the DMV form either on their website or the coupon. Only in the small print on the back of the DMV form does it tell you to bring the form with you. So unless you're a masochist and enjoy being verbally abused don't go to this guy. It's no wonder this place has the cheapest coupon online! read more

I have been going to this guy for over 15 years . Provides a qaulity service at good price . Nice guy once you get him talking . Guy is not a theif. Americar is great. Took my car in, quickly tested, and left in total of about 25 minutes. No frills, no free coffee. Just good, dependable, fast work for a low price. ($50 including certificate for my car) read more

Beware! The owner will tell you to park in the fire lane or against the wall. I chose the wall on the right side. I did not see the water faucet extending from the wall. I t was in my blind spot. It's scraped 6 inch gash in my car. When I told him he said the last guy that hit it had broken it and it cost $500 to repair. I asked him, incredulously, then why didn't he warn people about the faucet sticking out. His reply was that people shouldn't park so close to the wall. I am boycotting this business from now on. read more

Not enthusiastic. Not friendly. Expensive. Bring hard copy for coupon. Doesn't accept mobile coupon.

I've been going to these guys for over 15 years. Little bit of a language barrier for some maybe but I enjoy shooting the sh@t with them while the car is going through the test. It's a smog test people. Simple. I'll be going to these guys as long as I live in this town or until California no longer requires a dang smog test! read more

First time going here. It was fast and easy. No waiting and pricing was reasonable. Supporting the local Moorpark business.

Mumzie needed a favor to get her Smog on her car done so I headed over to her place in Moorpark California. We went into a Americar car because it's right around the corner from her apartment and I mean I could throw a rock and hit it it's that close. Abdul the owner was very nice and took care of us in a Flash. He even helped me put air in the tires and they were pretty low. The best thing about this place is it's right next door to Carrara Bakery and if you come here to have the smog done you can Waltz right in and have yourself a little snack that's going to knock your socks off. While I was there Abduls friend had the awesome 240z. Enjoy no better place to get your smog done. But I forgot to add it's a Star Smog Station which means they transmit right to the state. Good prices and good service. read more

Terrible customer service. Old man was rude and didn't value their coupon as it says "most "cars... I asked why he would not honor the coupon with mine, he said it was because it was "European, "and that they are more difficult"... I replied "you literally just plug it in, it's a 2010, that's it". He replied "well if you don't want it, then don't buy it." So, sadly I live in Moorpark and want to support local business, but I am now heading to Simi Valley to get the exact same thing, plug-and-play, where the coupon is accepted with no "most vehicle" exceptions. read more

The owner/technician is so unbelievably rude and grumpy. He berated me for not showing him the coupon before he started the work on the car. Why? Because coupon means, short cuts while you perform the service? He then argued with me, telling me it says on the coupon, to present before services performed, which he realized it did not state that. He then threw the coupon across the table. NONE OF THESE poor actions are a result of Covid, hence the poor review. read more

Unfortunately my experiences correspond with D H's and Dorothy B's reviews -- grumpy, rude, always quotes a much higher price. A competitor's machine broke so he directed me to Americar and said to ask him to honor his coupon. The Americar guy scoffed, said (inaccurately and without examination) that the coupon was for 2000 & newer cars (it says "95 & older extra"), and then quoted a price a little more than double the coupon. So I walked away....again... I have tried taking 3 other vehicles to him over the years and always wind up going elsewhere because of his attitude. I always feel like he quotes a price based on whether he likes you or not. Ancient Chinese proverb states "Man who not know how to smile should not open store." This guy must have been a repo man before he got into this line of work. I know the business is tough because of California's stupid smog and reporting laws and changing equipment requirements. But even though he's local, I choose not to patronize businesses that treat you so shabbily. I go out of my way to drive to Simi Valley or Thousand Oaks to avoid this treatment. Sad. I hope this review serves as a wake-up call for him to improve his customer service skills. He's clearly got some fanboys in these reviews but those experiences are not consistent across his customer base. read more

Quick, easy, and competitively priced! I called around comparing rates and no one could beat this place. I was able to get a coupon online for $10 off and he was totally cool about it.
