Great Food! The Tacos are EXCELLENT!! Very Clean!!!

I wanted to give this restaurant a 5. We really enjoy good Mexican food. The restaurant itself was cute, I thought the signage was cute, and we were really looking forward to our meal. The service was sub par-unfortunately. The waitress we had was apparently new and kept forgetting things, like drinks, part of our meal, etc... she just didn't check on us either. We kept asking our wonderful busboy for things- he'd make a great server- very attentive. The manager/hostess was very nice. She apologized for the waitress being new. I told her we can understand, but I asked her to keep an eye on our table since our waitress couldn't handle it. When you go out your paying for the experience. And the experience was affected by the waitress. The thing I was actually most upset about was the food! The food had such great reviews here. I was happy to recommend this place because of the reviews. I don't know if the people that have gone here and left reviews just don't know what authentic Mexican food tastes like, but this was not authentic Mexican food. We ordered nachos- they were a disaster. They were a disgusting mess of chips, beans, some cheese, and some pickled things on top as well as some jalapeños. They were tasteless. We ate them because we were starving- otherwise, we wouldn't have, honestly. Next we had tacos, and, one of us had a burrito. The steak in the tacos was overcooked and hard to chew. There were some onions on the side, but they did nothing to support the dish. The rest of the ingredients on the taco were forgettable. It wasn't delicious. The burrito which I got to try a bite, was an odd combination, of beans, meat, sweet potato, it was just weird. And it was bland. Then we come to the elote-- which we all normally like to eat, however not this recipe. The cream sauce on it was so bland and lifeless. We wiped it off and wound up eating the corn, and that was when that finally arrived after being forgotten- Another mistake in our order. Which the restaurant comped for the mistake- the corn- that was nice of them since it came after the meals. We appreciated that courtesy. The food though, it lacked a soul. I will say there is one shining star we would go back for and have as a take out-- the salsa and chips! That salsa is very good! It's a little different then other salsas- it wasn't pico de Gallo, and it wasn't typical. It was thick, it had a rich flavor, and that had a heart beat. Like I said in the beginning, we really wanted to like this place, but we are definitely experienced foodies and love really great food with flavor and good service. This missed the mark though. If you are looking for a quick takeout of chips and salsa, or maybe a couple beers with chips and salsa-- this could be a good choice for that. read more

Checked out Americanos today, heard it just opened on Thursday. It was currently BYOB bc their license hadn't cleared yet but that didn't bother my group at all and we came prepared. Popped in on a Sunday during late lunch and it was packed but in a good way and not overwhelming. Their parking lot is clutch. I have to say i was very impressed with the tacos. Out of the 8 of us we surely ordered evey kind and they did not disappoint. The portion sizes were very generous, happy to find they do homemade chips and chorizo. Def did not leave hungry. Excited to come back and get some cocktails and other drinks at the bar. The server Colette was on her A game and even though it was opening weekend and the suspected disorganization was there she handled herself great and made it a very enjoyable experience. Their salsa options for the chips should prob be offered to pair with the tacos and i hope they add a more traditional style tomato salsa but the guac and dips were very flavorful regardless. You can tell they have good cooks in the kitchen. Cant wait to come back and try more. Surely will be returning. read more

Had a lovely dinner outside yesterday at 5pm. Staff was so very nice. Ceviche was good. Salsa served with complimentary chips is 5 With chipotle smoky flavor. We came here Saturday evening and both the food and atmosphere were outstanding. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food was so fresh and tasty. We started with the ceviche, which had plenty of shrimp and pieces of fish in it and was served with warm tortilla chips. Next we ordered the Pozole, which was very flavorful . Finally, we had the brisket taco and steak taco. Both tacos were fantastic! The meat was very tender and juicy, plus they were served in fresh made tortillas and nice garnishes. We definitely will be going back with our friends to try the other items on the menu. read more

Great modern Mexican with a twist. Some things here are better than others, but when it works it's great. Some favorites are the fried chicken torta, steak tacos, fish tacos and the grilled cheese (best I've ever had). Great drinks, as well. A welcome addition to the neighborhood. read more

Went recently with a few friends with Hugh hopes but we were disappointed. I gave them a 3 star because I still hope they'll work out the problems. The margaritas took too long to get to the table and seemed weak, after 3 I still didn't have a buzz... The steak, pork, fish and shrimp tacos were very tasty but the brisket tasted like canned tuna and the chorizo tasted like chef boyardee and the chicken was dry. We didn't try the tortas. Enjoyed the beans and rice and guacamole but the chips were under salted. Probably won't go back for a few months at least, may give them another chance later on. read more

So my husband and I started bringing our 6 month old to Americanos on Taco Tuesday. They were close to McNally's, we would go after for our QofH raffle tickets, and it was a nice evening out. Our daughter loves, L-O-V-E-S this place!!! She inhales the guacamole and also enjoys the chicken tacos. We really love it here too! Fast forward to her birthday, well, we inquired about having a lunch/early dinner here for 25 people and we were excited that they do parties! Everything was great! Beyond great! Every time I go I get the chicken tacos with the creme sauce. Absolutely delicious every time!!!

Arrived with a party of 3 around 8pm on a Friday night. It was moderately busy, about 60-70% full. Unsure upon arriving if it was a "seat yourself" situation. It took 2 minutes for a staff member to seat us. Then the wait began. The menu looked good. No one even acknowledged us despite the rough count of about 5 wait staff. After about 10 minutes, someone who mumbled something dropped off chips and salsa. Not even a glass of water was offered. Another 5 minutes went by before we decided to leave without any acknowledgement from wait staff or the host who sat us. A major overhaul of customer service needs to be performed... read more

Finally got to visit Americanos after hearing great things. 100% lives up to the great reviews. Food was delicious, staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. My husband is a picky eater, but LOVED the chicken tacos! I got the chorizo tacos which were delicious. So lucky we have a place like Americanos on the South Side! read more

Below mediocre experience today. Two adults and two teens; wife and I had Cadillac margaritas which were good. Chips, salsa and guac were good. My wife's shrimp borrachos entree was actually very good and hot but the other three of us ordered tacos which might have been good at one point, but by the time they reached our table were lukewarm to cold. My taco platter had sit so long that the refried beans top actually formed thin shell. Tortillas were cold and had hard rubbery edges. No napkins or silverware were delivered - we had to ask for them. The bus boy had time to chat up patrons at the bar but apparently no interest in clearing any of the dirty dishes that piled up throughout the meal. When the waitress asked if everything was ok after the main course was delivered, I pointed to my mostly unconsumed plate and explained how it was cold as was the other three plates. "Ok" was the response then she disappeared. Most of the tacos went uneaten. A few minutes later we got the check. Full charge, nothing removed, and not even an apology. $120 plus tip. Our third time there, and now this is two of three bad experiences. Won't be back. Feels like a little basic managerial oversight and some better training could help but they just don't seem to care enough. read more

Steak torta was delicious. The steak itself was very well seasoned and cooked and the toppings were very fresh and added some extra kick. If you like the Frontera Fresco-style tortas you'll like this place. My friend got the pulled pork torta and loved it as well. Great selection of Mexican and craft beers accompanied by a nice mix of cocktails. Will be back again. read more

Not a very Happy Cinco De Mayo at Americano today. The service was as bad as the food. To be perfectly honest we would have been better served at Taco Bell or Pepepis. The first waitress was not only rude, but she failed to sit us at a table prepared for dinner to be served. We waited 1 and half hours to receive cold food . Granted we had been informed of a long wait. After waiting patiently we were rewarded with cold food. Upon speaking with management we got empty apologies regarding staff calling off to explain away the poor services , margaritas in water glasses vs margarita glasses and a bill as if we had been serviced efficiently , appropriately and professionally ..... Unacceptable and here is a FYI AMERICANO if you are having a scheduling problem that impacts your customer service be honest with your customer and offer some type of incentive Example : 10% off your bill over free appetizer and beverage while you wait 1 plus hours , but please don't expect to be paid for poor service and horrible food... versus asking if we had been told about the long wait that turned into an unacceptable wait time for anyone dinning out and expected to pay. read more

Ordered from this place over the weekend, I got the veggie tacos and they were amazing. 10/10 recommend.

This is a new restaurant, we ordered ceviche, steak and pork tacos. The menu is ala-carte, most Mexican restaurants serve chips and salsa when you're seated (not here) we ordered the ceviche and it was overpowering with vinegar and onions. The meat for the tacos was pre-cooked and wasn't tender and barely warm.... usually at ala-carte restaurants the food is prepared to order. We had to ask for sauce to enhance our tacos. Our waitress noticed that We hadn't finished our food and asked if we wanted to take with, I replied that food wasn't edible, she said sorry and walked away. This restaurant has a long way to go if they expect to remain open. read more

This is the worst pseudo mexican restaurant I have experienced. My husband and I ordered the enchiladas which were tasteless and cold when they arrived. They give you a choice of chicken, brisket, poblano and steak but have an up charge of $2.00 for each steak taco ordered which is ridiculous. The rice was also cold and hard. This is strictly catered to the local American residents that obviously haven't been to an authentic, quality mexican restaurant. To make matters worse it was over priced Taco Bell quality food. At least at Taco Bell I know I'm getting low quality, fast food without being gauged. I will never go back there again. read more

Has potential but needs work. Had steak tacos, pozole and quesadillas. The steak needed to be more tender. Pozole tastes watered down and missing that chili flavor. The quesadillas were drenched in oil and was only able to taste the oil. I also didn't like that salsa wasn't included with the tacos. I also feel that the menu lacks a kids menu which is needed if you want to make it easier for local families to take the kids out. Full up on a Friday night, but they pointed us toward the bar or the "lounge" (2 chairs & a loveseat with a low table in between). We ended up staying in this cozy corner and ordering dinner. I'm from the area if Mount Greenwood area and it has been long overdue for me to step in here. I'm Mexican and this place is def the spot. The food is brilliant and the selection of tequila is good. Hospitality in here is great. I met the owner and he's great. I cannot thank enough for this place to open down the street from me as I don't have to travel far to get some good Mexican food.
