Checked out another one of these Irish pubs in Beverly. It certainly has a lot. Barney Callaghan's is a classic. Just because it looks like it's been around forever. The drinks are the main reason to come as well as for watching games and hanging. Basic looking place but it used to be even more so before they renovated it a while ago. It's the same one that was formerly known as Keegan's. There's a mix of Irish flags and sports memorabilia covering the walls. A lot of the guys here will be drinking beers. There's a few on tap including of course Guinness. It's about $6 for a basic cocktail. There's plenty to choose from beyond Jameson. Has no food. They let you bring in stuff. Going here is kind of a throwback experience. It's actually a lot cleaner than it used to be when it was like how dank and dusty bars used to be around here. They're located close to 106th on Western. read more

I must have had a sign taped to my back that said, "new here", as certainly everyone at Keegan's on the night I was here asked me, if I was "new here". Ha! That alone made me laugh! And for all who asked . . . . the answer was yes! But then I sidled up to the well worn bar, ordered a beer that the bartender wouldn't give to me (I guess Miller Lite was the wrong thing to order) and then spent the rest of the night laughing with a Guinness in my hand at the antics of the people around me. If you want fancy, this is not your place. If you want plenty of personal space, this is not your place. If you want an Irish bar that is all new and pretty, this is not your place. But if you want a night out with a fun crowd that is bound and determined to make you feel right at home, check out Keegan's. Oh, and don't order a Miller Lite! read more

This is my favorite place to drink in the city. It's usually the cherry popper for my friends who are South Side drinking virgins. If you want a true pub experience, Keegan's the place to be. It's certainly better than the place next door. Always guaranteed to be the best Guinness pour in the city of Chicago. Whenever I'm on the South Side, I make it a priority to stop in (usually before visiting the family). I considered this my home away from home. Almost makes me want to move back to the city until I have to pay yet another asinine {insert product here} tax. read more

This is probably my favorite of the Western Avenue pubs. Since most of the people that go drinking on Western are underage...Keegan's has a slightly older crowd...now that I'm 30 I need a little of that. Don't get me wrong cork and kerry, especially with the new addition is a great classic Irish pub...The difference is the guiness...Keegans has the best guiness pour in the entire city of Chicago and some people say west of Ireland. I hadn't been in in 5 or 6 years and the second I walked threough the door 3 people shouted my name....gotta love it!To compare it to dingers is apples and oarnges.....being the white sox fan that I am and all the time I spent in dingers when I was 16 leaves a softspot in my heart.....You can't beat the guiness at Keegans though. Cheers! read more

I came here for a friends birthday party and drinks. It was a lot of fun and I really loved this place. It was a Sunday night so I was expecting the bar to be empty. But it wasn't. It was very full of younger adults. Usually a prefer bars that are almost empty because you get better service. But here, the service was super fast and the bartenders knew how to handle the crowd. The bathrooms were a little small, but I enjoyed my night here and would love to go back again. I didn't order food or even ask if they had food, so I can only comment on the drinks. read more

This is my favorite Irish pub on Western Ave....and in Chicago in general. This is a place where everyone and anyone feels welcome when they walk through the doors. Most of the bartenders are from Ireland and have their brogue to prove it. The drinks are reasonably priced. However, do keep in mind that it is a cash only bar. They have an ATM on site to help you out in case you didn't realize that or if you go in for "just one drink" and end up staying until 3am and need a little more cash to keep the liquor flowing :) I prefer Keegan's Pub to the other Irish bars/pubs on Western, because they haven't succumb to changing their atmosphere into a modern day look. Part of the beauty in Keegan's is that it is well-loved, and you can tell by the fact that the bar looks worn, as do the bar stools, the floor, and even the doors. This is one of the most authentic feeling pubs around still. It's as if they adopted the attitude of "Like us or hate us, this is who we are, and we ain't changing!" I say this in reference to Cork and Kerry next door who chose to do the opposite...but I'll leave that for another review :) If you are on the Southside and looking for a down-to-earth, laid back, Irish pub...well then, my golly, get yourself over to Keegan's Pub on Western! You may even be greeted by the bartender/owner's dog that they have in the bar every so often :) SLAINTE! read more

Best pint of stout on the south side. Very comfortable and social. Staff are good. Only problem I've ever had is male bartender rolling his eyes when I asked him to switch 1 of 8 tv's on to Cubs. That's a cross to bear for south side cubs fans carry tho. read more

For starters: best pour on the south side and probably in all of Chicago. Bernard pours a lot of Guinness, he know how to pour it and the barrel is always fresh. As a true Irish bar, you will be treated friendly the first time you arrive. But you won't know if you have truly arrived until your entrance is met with a cascade of good natured insults from the proprietor. For me it is all about the craic and the neighborhood characters. ( We have a lot.) I have been in my fair share of Irish and faker Irish bars in my time. For my money, Keegan's is the real deal. read more

I really enjoyed this place on a night out with my boyfriend. This random drunk stranger came up to us swearing and the bartender Mat handled it very well and professionally. Last night my co-workers and I headed into Barney's after our Holiday Christmas party. We have been to this bar many of times, hosted many functions here, rented out basement bar several times for birthdays or retirement parties or just sat at bar spending our hard earned money. We just got done discussing how wonderful this place is. The band was great, crowd was fun. It wasn't until my friend was getting up to go to the bathroom and she slipped on the stair and lost her balance. She grabbed onto to the table to balance herself and boom table crashed behind her with drinks crashing all over her back, on her head, all over the floor!! The top of the table came clear of the stand. We didn't make a big deal of it. We wanted to make sure she was ok. Two older gentleman helped her up who happened to be there. They were concerned for her. We were concerned for her but that was it. The manager never came over to ask how she was. To see if she was hurt. We showed the how the table was never even attached to the stand. As they replaced the table, the manager made a comment to us stating "see this table is new and it's attached" and then banged it to show us it was sturdy. One of my friends talked to the manager and said that table had a few drinks on it and those that were at that table are outside. Is there anyway we can get a few more drinks? He thought about it and said yes just send them up to the bar when they come back in. As the waitress came over, same friend asked about the drinks and she stated well our manager told all of us behind the bar not to give them any drinks. So here we have a manager telling us one thing and then telling his staff another. Very very unprofessional in my eyes. I know many bar owners on the south side and never would this be acceptable. It's not about the drinks. It was like 3 drinks, (not even ours) it's about the point he said send them up to the bar and then told his staff to refuse to serve them. They had nothing to do with it. We would have easily paid for them if he just said miss we can't do anything about sorry. Or hey better yet, ask how the girl is who fell because of your unstable table. You acted as if she had the plague and questioned "how do screws just happen to pop out of the table?" Well manager, I found one of the screws that I have now in my possession. And let me tell you the 1/2 inch screw that was "sturdy" enough to hold your table isn't really made to "hold" that table in place. Shame on you for not being professional. Shame on you for making my friend feel like she did something wrong. Shame on your for lying to us. Your boss I'm sure wouldn't appreciate your lack of compassion or business etiquette. We will no longer be spending our money at this bar. Oh and your bouncers seemed to have agreed with us..and your waitresses too. You may want to consider a new profession. read more

I got a special deal on a futon from the owner of Keegans in the summer of 2004. He was flexible regarding delivery because there was an issue with my apartment complex and since its really just a bar, not a store, and this was a private sale, I didn't give him too much hassle about it. He is very kind and helpful and most of the staff at Keegans have that "Scottish Charm" if you will. The delivery movers were buddies of one of the waitresses ex boyfriend - polite, quick, and took the time to explain how to set it up/take it down, I was like WOW! I didn't even pay for movers thank you!! The futon is really a quality piece of furniture and it looks so nice. I definitely recommend this place not only for the top shelf enchiladas and tequilla, but also for the Scottish with a smile, CAN DO attitude! read more

This is the most tolerable of Western Ave bars, which is to say its like least painful way to get in the face with a hammer. Yes, this place is going to be full of all the dipshits you went to high school with, but there just won't be as many dipshits as next door at Cork and Kerry. read more

I love Keegan's! It's a great neighborhood place to go. Very laid back but always a good time.

I really like this place. The best bar in Beverly if you ask me. it can get a little tight n there but usually it thins out a bit and you can claim some more room. Good bands play and they always have good stuff on tap. This is why people drink on Western! read more

Been here a few times (6 or 7). It seems like the place to go if you want to sit down and have a drink and just talk with your friends. People are usually friendly. Bartenders are quick and polite. Before the redesign I used to come to this bar ALL THE TIME. Yesterday is the first time I've been back since the redesign. They hired new bartenders who flat out were not serving women. My boyfriend and I actually tested them. She served him within minutes after I waited 20 and gave up and walked away. My friends and their husbands continued to test it. Over and over - they served men and not women. I get that they want tips but I tip REALLY well. Hell, I give my mailman a Christmas present! It was pathetic. Not going back - definitely miss the old Keegan's. read more

Horrible service! Bartender doesn't seem to know what put in the well means. It means I need another drink

My favorite bar on Western and quite possibly my favorite bar on the Southside. I love the Southside Irish feel, and the "Cheers"-like ambiance the bar regulars/ Western drifters create on any given night. If you go on a weeknight, I don't have to emphasize it's going to be more quiet, but it's still busy with people juke-boxing or dancing to live Irish music (so that should tell you a lot about how the weekends will be!). I haven't been here in a year or two, but writing this review I am getting extremely nostalgic. Keegans will likely inspire the same for you-- neighborhood local or not-- just due to the fact that neighboring Cork & Kerry shows you how Keegans got it right. read more

Keegan's Pub has the best frothiest-poured Guinness in Chicago! The place is cozy and the bar tenders are always friendly.

I was there for a friends birthday gathering in June and its nice place---a little pricey for my budget but it was worth it for my friend

Best Guinness in Chicago. Great attentive service from a bartender named Devlin. They don't have regular specials, but they'll buy you one every couple, best bar on western, no lames, no racist vibe that can be associated with the Southside. Locals in there are 1000% solid. Nice wood work, fireplace and decor. Live music on Tuesdays from a really talented male/female duo. Plus, Ed Walsh has been spotted in there. Highly recommended if you are in the area. read more

Wow. I created a yelp account just to leave this review. Came in here like any other night and we were super pumped to watch March Madness. We got in there around 8:00pm and I had a Bloody Mary. I wasn't really drinking much, but my boyfriend had a few drinks. 1:00am rolled around and I noticed that my drivers license was missing. I immediately asked the bartender and I was told that nobody had turned in a license. I panicked and said that I needed to report that my license had been stolen and the bartender, Bridget, proceeded to threaten me and tell me that if I got police involved she would lie and say that I was over served. I had my receipt in front of me which stated that I only had 3 drinks in a 5 hour span, and was told that she had comped all of our drinks. Yeah right, Bridget wasn't even our bartender. I never even saw this lady in my life. I eventually waited until the next day and went back in to speak to the owner and was told that I clearly misplaced it since I had 2 beers and a Bloody Mary. I didn't know it was a crime to sit in a bar and watch a basketball game. If you want your shit stolen and nothing to be done about it, check out Barney's. read more

Fun bar and great atmosphere! The bartenders are awesome. This is a perfect south side Irish bar!

One of the best bars, if not the best, on Western. Guinness is always fresh as they pour alot of it. Bartenders are very attentive and will actually look you in the eye and say thank you. Crowd is older during the week, weekends skew younger but everyone feels welcome in this great Irish pub. read more
