During the summers, my friends and I would stand out front and sit on the war time artillery on display and smoke cigarettes and talk crap. You know, the good ol' days. My latest visit was for a Relay For Life Trivia Night. My husbands office sponsored a table of 10. Apparently they won 2 years ago and have been trying to reclaim their title. Apparently my husband told them I was pretty good at trivia. The hall itself is large and can fit quite a few tables a many a number of people. It includes a small stage area that was utilized for this event by the people giving the questions. In one corner there is a small kitchen area that the finger foods were prepared in and also they had a bar with bartender. You know we love that. By the end of the night we were the loudest table and had many complaints. I wasn't drinking though. I was taking my trivia questions very seriously. There were some maintenance issues that were very noticeable though. No soap in the bathrooms and the bathrooms smell awful. Kind of like there was a drain issue. The event hosts didn't empty the garbage cans enough too. Smelly! I have to say that it was an incredibly fun event. This was our first time and definitely not our last. I honestly cant wait until next years event.

It was enough room for the 60 guests that attended. I love the special attention we were offered for setting up early to giving us enough time to clean up afterwards. As a member of the Auxiliary I highly recommend the business for hall rentals and special events. We honor our Veteran's and thank all who are serving and have served.

I would not recommend renting this hall. We had my Mom's 70th party here. I did not receive a copy…read moreof the contract, which was bad on my part. I should have known better. However, I did receive receipts for every transaction. In my profession I document everything, so I thought my documentation of all transactions would suffice. When I went in to make arrangements to rent the hall I completed all paper work with Nikki. I was told our deposit of $150 would be returned if we left the hall clean and nothing damaged. At the end of our event we all cleaned and asked Nikki for her approval. She checked the bathroom for any damage and inspected the hall. She verbally told me everything looked fine and I would receive my deposit in one week. The following day I received a phone call from Nikki stating five of the to go containers were used by our party. I apologized profusely and told her I would happily go to Costco and purchase a brand new pack of containers to replace the ones used. They count everything at this hall, I mean every spoon, knife, and fork. I was not surprised that she knew the amount of containers used. I went to Costco the following day and purchased the pack with a quantity of 100 for $12.91. I let the hall keep the whole pack rather than just replacing what was used. When I picked up the deposit check. The check was only for $100. I asked her why the check was not $150. She stated that $50 is applied toward janitorial fees, and that the "contract" states you will receive $100 back. What a joke!!! I went home and looked at my notes (document, document, document) and I had it written down $150 returned deposit from the original quote I received from Nikki. However, it was a waste of my time to go back and argue over $50. We payed $775 in total to rent this hall. There are many other venues to give your business to in Stockton. I would much rather do business with honest and trustworthy people. People that will not try and nickle and dime you for $50. I will state once again; I would not recommend renting this hall.

The items are in great to excellent shape. My first experience with them as far as donations was when I needed a couch to be picked up. I heard they would pick up items. When I called they gave me the third degree and acted like it had to be brand new for them to pick it up. My couch was perfectly fine to donate and the family who received it was more than happy. Because in the end, I told Hope Chest to just forget it! They obviously didn't want my donation. Well, today I called ahead of time and the person I talked to said, "Make sure you don't have a truck load of donations right before closing!" She didn't say anything about them not accepting toys of any kind. I would not have wasted a trip. I also agree with some of the other posts, their prices are pretty high for a thrift store. Yes, sometimes the manager will work with you. But I don't like to haggle. I would rather just see a good/fair price, pick it up and take it home. I also wish they would have student/teacher discount day like some of the other thrift stores have. It would be nice. :)

That said, I am very excited to be involved with Relief's efforts to not only help the impoverished in Liberia, but to educate women and children so that they are able to provide for themselves in the future. There are currently a number of programs in place that really need funding. WOW is the Women Of Worth program. This program provides scholarships for women's trade education. The KIS program is Kids In School and it provides children with education, so important in a country that is basically starting over with very little infrastructure. The global leadership training program based in California also needs support. Relief ships donations of food, clothing and medical items to Liberia and is seeking like items. Relief creates global leaders of tomorrow with their youth leadership training programs based in California.
