I recently spent a week with American Sailing Academy completing ASA 105 and 114 with instructor Bernard Meyer. Prior to arrival, I spoke with the school head, Captain G, regarding conditions and expectations for the courses I had selected, and he provided excellent guidance regarding both. Bernard was an outstanding instructor- professional and thorough with a healthy dose of enthusiasm and humor. I enjoyed even working through tedious navigation problems with him because he had a knack for relating these problems to real world situations and giving them context. I left this school having learned much more about sailing than the basic course curriculum and had a wonderful time. Of note, all of the instructors I met at this school were highly experienced and able to push students up to higher levels of sailing competence. Their fleet was older, but commensurate with what's available in the area. I will definitely return to American Sailing Academy for instruction in the future. read more
